When I purchased this home back in 2004 after finally getting away from an extremely abusive marriage, all I could see was that the price was right and that I would finally be safe - hundreds of miles away from my now ex-husband. As a single mother of 3 children on a limited income, I saw how I would be able to live completely mortgage and rent free. I didn't however see the major repairs that this house required - nor did I have the money to make such repairs. Over time, of course things got worse - and it brings me up to the point of where I am today.

The roof on this house is so badly deteriorated that it is leaking very badly in the downstairs bathroom, dining room, kitchen and front door areas. It has leaked so badly that now mold has started to form in the bathroom ceiling and the drywall has slowly been falling away on the one wall. The slightest wind and you will find shingles blown off and laying on the ground. The roof is so bad that I am fearful that even the boards underneath the shingles may need to be replaced.

Realize that this is my last resort in trying to come up with the funds required to get this new roof. I have tried applying to government grants for home improvement but unfortunately I do not qualify because 1. my property taxes are not paid up to date (I owe approximately $2000 just in property taxes), and 2. the size of the house is larger than the specified guideline parameters. Nor do I qualify for a loan of any sort as 1. I make a mere $200 a month working and 2. have bad past credit (being a single mom has taken some serious tolls on me - including financially!).

So the goal here is to get a new roof installed - and as soon as possible so that any further damage to the house is avoided. I also worry about the mold forming in the bathroom especially and one day the roof caving in in there. While my children have grown to teenagers now, I still have to worry about their health.

I have uploaded pictures and this story at Chip-In to show you the extent of the damage done especially in the bathroom area - and a view of the shingles as they are right now on the roof. Admittedly I realize that my house also needs some repair on the stucco, windows and such but right now my main concern is the roof. I'm surprised it hasn't caved in on me by now.

I thank everyone in advance for helping me with this. I do not normally like asking for help from anyone but at this point I am finding that I have no other alternative.

I nned help to fix my house up. it needs new windows, walls,doors,etc and need help to pay my gas, lights,etc.

My husband and I have been married for 30 years and have grown children. Most of our excess money goes toward helping them and the grandchildren. In the meantime our kitchen floor is almost falling through in three spots, our bathroom has mold all around the top of the walls and all our windows are completely molded. There is at least a half inch open space in our doors that allows cold/heat in so our electric bills are outrageous. My wife and I have been married 49 years in May. We have always worked and are now living totally on Social Security. I will soon be 70 years old and my wife is 68.

We own our home(free and clear)and are not destitute, but we do need help.

We are both dissembled, My wife is on oxygen 24/7 and, due to nerve damage to both legs, I cannot walk or stand for more than a few minutes at a time. I manage to get around by hanging on to things.
As we get older there are some things that need to be taken care inside the house.

We have asked for help from our County to install new windows and doors that I have already purchased, and have had on hand for the last few years. I have checked with Habitat in our closest city and there is no help available in this part of rural America. The siding on the house is decaying badly and needs to be replaced. We also have siding and roof damage from a large storm here last spring.

We managed to get a kitchen remodel completed last year, by a handy man who owed me some money. This makes it much more accessible for my wife and I.

I have the tools and the know how, but my body wont cooperate.

I have never asked for help before, and have always been there for anyone that has needed help, but I am no longer able.

Hi, I'm a hard working single woman who's house is falling apart. I need help to stop the situation getting worse. I dont drink, dont smoke and went out twice last year as every penny I earn goes towards bills and house repairs.

I am a 32 year old woman and i live with my 14 year old daughter and my 40 year old fiance of 12 years! We have always had money problems because whilst i have worked in retail, my fiance has had trouble finding a permanent full time job. I have been the breadwinner all of this time. We now have stable, permanent full time jobs and are working hard to pay off our debts that have been building up.

During the past 6 and a half years we had to downgrade our property and rent a small damp home in a rough part of town. The mould is getting increasingly worse and i have to de-mould the walls and windows every 3 weeks. The house smells damp and it is hard to retain the heat as there is no double glazing. The agency is aware of the problem but the landlord doesnt want to shell out any money to fix the cause of the mould/damp so has given us a dehumidifier!!
We are too embarrassed to invite friends or family over and likewise so is my daughter.

My fiance and i have been working to pay off all the debts that built up (£2,000 rent arrears £1,500 water rates, £500 council tax and a £1,500 electric bill). Thankfully we only owe £500 rent now and aim to pay this off by the end of may.

What we will struggle to do is save up a deposit for our next rented property. It will probably be about £1,000 for a months rent in advance and a deposit. We will get our deposit back from this house which is £380, and we will save as much as poss ourselves. We would all really like to move before summer as this house only has a tiny backyard and it doesn't even get any sunlight. The washing doesn't even dry out there!!

I am suffering from diabetes, depression, giddiness, backache, tension headache, anxiety, high cholesterol and on daily medication. I just don’t know what to do, I am a 23-year-old female. I was mainly raised by my mother (58) she was married for a number of years and is now divorced. We had an excellent relationship up until I was about 11 when we moved from the city to the smallest village in the middle of no where, when I was 16 I moved back to the city to attend college, I was home schooled from the age of 13 so had to do make up courses if I ever wanted to attend university as I never got any schooling qualifications.
Over the years Iv tried to visit as much as I can but with schooling taking up most of my time and due to us living about 9 hours apart, is been difficult.
We are both very similar, which causes a lot of arguments, both equally stubborn. We fight a lot.
She’s dealt with a lot, such as a three-year prosecution agents her, which absolutely broke her, mentally and emotionally, it was a hard time for both of us, my grades suffered a lot and I began to worry about her mental health. Because it went on for so long, a lot of our arguments would be blamed on the stress of the whole situation. I always thought that once it was over, we would get better.
I graduated from university a year ago and it’s the first time in a long time that I’ve been able to visit more frequently. I thought it would be a great opportunity for us to fix our broken relationship,
When ever I visit, it gets to about a week, a week and a half and I just have to leave in fear our relationship would just crumble, this time it’s a little different, I broke up with my boyfriend of a year, who I was living in the city with and decided to get away so about two weeks ago I came to my mums, then within a few day a friend of ours (yes we share friends, we are VERY similar) was raped and beaten up, said friend is very messed up about it and has needed me around, you know just to listen, pretty much just to be here. So I decided to stay longer, when out of the blue my dog died. This dog was my guardian angle and helped to keep me strong when times where hard. Having him leave me was probably the single most heart-breaking moment of my life so far (don’t think I’m just inexperienced with life (my partner (my first-love/childhood sweetheart) of 7 years and I broke up less then two years ago) I know heart-break.
We have argued less this time considering the circumstances, but not for lack of her trying, well that’s how it feels. With everything that’s going on anytime I feel tension in the air I have just said “No, not now, we will not argue” and either left the room or had a time out if we were in the car or something.
She’s very ‘bohemian’ has a very radical way of thinking, outspoken and always on the side of the underdog, I have absolutely no problems with this and I most defiantly love her for exactly who she is. She’s been the best teacher of life, she’s had a hard life, and I feel I am more educated against the world because of the way we can talk about things.
When I’m here I try to put some order to the chaos, you know tide up (its always a mess) it’s a big house and can take ages to clean ever room.
I just broke down, I was cleaning the kitchen, and this isn’t just polish and vacuum. I was removing all the moulding fruit and vegetables from the bowl, when I noticed that she had three bags of potatoes in the fruit bowl. I wrapped them up to put them in the potato draw only to find a draw full of rotting potatoes.
She hoards stuff, I tried to throw away a few disposable Tupperware boxes when she told me she uses them to store things, fair enough. Then I notice a huge stack of them on top of the cabinet, like she hasn’t even considered using those ones.
This all sounds so stupid, I know, but usually when id be strong enough to just brush it off and sort it out, I don’t have that strength rite now, I am so worried for her, I am beginning to feel as though perhaps I should move in with her to be her carer, but we don’t have the sort of relationship that we could live together full time, last time that happened I was 15 and I would hate to live in this area again, I have nothing but bad memories from my childhood here. The people are very closed minded and keep them selves to them selves, my mum loves it here, she grew up in Africa, and says round here reminds her of a happier time. It’s not for me.
And on top of it all, she doesn’t earn very much money (she practically volunteers at a place to help people with special needs) and iv been struggling to find a job for months now, iv started receiving benefits with is £50 per week, but the debt of our dog dyeing is at least £500, and our other dog has to have an operation to have his eye removed this Friday (which is just more £££) all my benefits are going towards that and all the money she can keep aside goes on that as well.
The house is falling down, her ex husband was a builder and they had brought a run down place to do up, he smoked away all his time and practically nothing got done. She’s lived here for over 10 years and only a few weeks ago had windows fitted in the kitchen, before it was just stretched plastic. Most of the walls are just plasterboard, the sink is broken, we have to carry water down from the bathroom to do the washing up.
I don’t know what to do, I worry about her mental well being, I don’t know if she’s developing Alzheimer’s, she had a memory test at the doctors and they said she was fine, but I just don’t see how this can be the case. I worry about her physical state, she has extremely bad arthritis and struggles to move somedays. I worry about her financial situation, but without work there’s nothing more then £50 a week I can do.
I am not keep my job search limited to my degree; I have applied for supermarkets, MacDonald’s, all manor of places all over the country.
I feel more then ridiculous for posting this, but I don’t want to be a burden on the people in my life, and simple don’t know what to do anymore.

TL;DR - I need to help my mother financially, to fix the crumbling house, to pay vet bills, to fix our relationship and just to survive when life is hard.

My Wife and I are both disabled Americans. She has had a major back fusion and two knee replacements as well as some heart woes. I myself have just had my second major back surgery, I have an implantable Cardiac Defibrilator and one total knee replacement.
We are both on a very low income, myself on Social Security Disabilaty, she on School Employees Retirement Disabilaty benefits. We have a vehicle that is almost twenty years old and on its last legs.. I am certain you get many letters like this everyday but we really would like some kind of assistance. We would love to be able to move to Vermont where we can be near our children and Grandchildren as they grow and flourish into strong Americans ans be near our Parents as they live out thier golden years. I know we are asking a lot but if there is anything you can do to truly show your compassion , we will speak on every t.v. station, every radio station, make posters, whatever it takes. The state of Ohio in its infinite wisdom is considering stopping paying my Medicare part b and take away my medicaid because we, "make too much gross income" by the time we pay all our bills we have maybe 50.00 left to last an entire month.
My Wifes Information::::
I was Married to a very wonderful man for 31 years. He developed heart disease and diabetes. He fought valiently but finaly succomed to the medical problems. I became very sad and was almost at the brink of a mental breakdown. I did become involved with the local Greif Counseling service as this helped me to ease my burden a small amount. I began talking to this nice fellow on Pogo.com which is an online gaming site where one may play all sorts of games such as Solitare etc. We hit it off and began internet dating in August of 2008. We arranged to meet in November and upon viewing each other we knew the bond we had felt over the air was a real bond and Leo dropped to his knees and askeed me to Marry him. We married a week later in November of 2008 and have been together ever since. Since than we have both become quite medically burdened ourselves, Leo has a thing called Sudden Cardiac death Syndrome and has had to have had an Automatic Implantable Cardiac Defibrilator instaled recently. We both suffer from back woes and must seek care frequently. Now we do have a 1996 Chevy Blazer that runs when it feels like it, the airconditioner is broken and what with being in the Midwest is very hot to have to drive around with the windows down. A computer part that costs 1500.00 for the A.B.S. system is out and we just can not afford to fix it. We love the vehicle as it was my first ever fully owned vehicle from a bank loan in my life. My Information::::
My Wife and I will be Married for three years on November 28th.We met in late July or early August of 2008. She had just lost her husband of 31 years. I was myself looking for a somewhat different lifestyle than I was in currently. I was living at home at over 40, disabled with a moderate spinal disease and more or less going nowhere. Debbie and I hit it off right away and we were engaged in October and Married in November. We each have been each others rock and best friend and companion. I have since went into the Ministry and have undertaken many courses towards helping others to live as good a life as possible. Debbie is a great personal loss counselor in her own right. I recently became a heart patient and have had to have an Automatic Implantable cardiac defibrilator installed in my upper chest which has a built in pace maker. All this at only the age of 49.Debbie has had to have undergone major back surgery herself and have screws and cages ut into her lower back. This makes us totaly disabled yet we both have a teriffic outlook on life and are always willing to help others. Life is what you make it, not a series of bad events that bring you down. We both appreciate each day given unto us and are so greatful for all our friends, family, and fellow searchers of lifes Grace. If we were chosen to receive a New SUV as we live in snowy Ohio and may move to new England to be closer to some family we would make certain that it was put to good use and everyone would know the generosity of others. I can only hope as this as well as the other stories here on this site may touch you a small amount and you shall favor us with kindness. God Bless Everyone. Thank You All. I'm working on constructing a home using earthbag techniques and I'm short on materials. I need a few hundred dollars for more sandbags, barbed wire as well as chicken wire and concrete to cover the outside of the structure. I'm using recycled doors and windows and lumber for flooring and other structural elements. My goal is to live off the approximately half acre of land I own, including farming wood for heating and cooking as well as food. I also need a new pair of boots, I'm wearing my boots and socks out fast as I'm doing all my digging to fill the bags with a shovel, no power tools or help from other people. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a small array of solar panels for electricity but I have no water storage or collection set up. To set up water storage and collection will take several hundred dollars as well. More solar panels and storage batteries are always desirable. If possible I can submit an Amazon wishlist, as I'd prefer to get assistance in the form of materials and equipment that I need, rather than just money, as I'm trying to get away from the monetary system entirely.

My almost 19 year old son, who is autistic and nonverbal, and is not potty trained, needs a full size mattress terribly. He is not toilet trained, and has wet the bed so often I cannot clean it anymore. He has broken the box springs and frame compelty,but my husband has fashioned a frame out of 2 x 4's. His disability causes him to have extreme agression, and he continually breaks windows, makes holes in walls, tears up his clothing, unravels carpet, tore up laminate flooring,so many things. In one week he tore up 5 pair of shorts and 6 shirts, and 6 pair of socks. He even does it at school. He tore up 3 sets of sheets just last month. He wears adult diapers, which cost a lot. The state does give him medicaid, but they only pay for about 1/2 the diapers he uses a month. I am at my wits end trying to keep up with it. Currently there are 6 fairly large holes in the hallway, three in his bedroom, 2 in the dining room, we keep patching them but he keeps making them. I was laid off my job as a special ed aide in 2008, and then I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am currently in remission, but the medical bills are staggering and we are two months behind in rent. We owe $297 to the electric bill and only have 5 days to pay it. My husband has been looking for a second job, but he works long and odd hours and it is hard. I have tried everything to get caught up, but everything keeps happening, car repairs on our 2000 impala cost over $400, we can't get it registered because it won't pass emissions, besides our disabled son we also have a 13 year old. I don't know where else to turn.I need $1500 for rent, $300 for the electric bill, and am desperate for a new mattress or bed for my son. If anyone can help, I would be so thankful, and be sure to pass on the blessings to someone else whenever I get the chance. Thank you so much.
