Grandma Would Love To Visit the Grandchildren she has never seen
Posted by We_are_broke on 2012-05-10 06:58:47
We have 2 grandchildren we have never seen. They live in Portugal with my daughter & her husband. They are poor & struggling too so they cannot come to the UK nor pay for us to go there.
The cost of 2 flights from the UK to Porto or Lisbon will be around £800 for both of us. The cost of car hire (we need to hire a car to as they live in a tiny village inaccessible by public transport a couple of hours from the airport) is around £600 for 2 weeks
The first 2 weeks in August would be a lovely time to visit as they are on holiday from work & school.
I would so love to see my grandchildren, play with them, hug them. It hurts not seeing them more than I can say.
My husband says Iâm wasting my time but I believe that there are good, generous people around who will help just as we have helped other people in our good times.
Could someone please help this old Grandma & Grandpa so they can see their grandchildren at least once. Any donations would be wonderful.
Thank You
REQUEST FOR LIFE

Greetings, Me and my family are farmers located in one of the most remote and rugged regions of Himalayas in India where there are no access to roads or transportations. Our home and fields are situated over the mountain approx. 3500 feet above sea level where the weather is unpredictable which makes farming very hard and life unbearable. All the farm work is done manually by hand by the members of my family. We normally grow garlic in small quantities which we sell to sustain the family for a whole year. As there are no access to roads we have to carry the loads on our backs at times 50 to 80 KG to access the nearest road which is couple of hours down the mountain and is a back breaking process. Even to get small food items we have to be going through this exercise everyday for our survival. Our everyday diet consist of five or six rotis (wheat flour and water mixed and roasted like a pancake) with mostly dal (gravy made out of pulse) with occasional rice two times a day. At times we collect wild vegetables from nearby forest to supplement our diet. Because of lack of nutrition our health conditions also suffer many times in a year. Here even today babies are born in the house. Birth is supervised by one of the older village woman as there are no doctors or any qualified medical people. In cases of emergency we have to carry the patient on our back to the road and any medical attention can be gotten 15 kms further down the road. This has resulted in many deaths in past years with young and old.
Since last two years due to changing weather conditions and untimely rainfall our fields could not yield crops properly. We are poor farmers just scrapping through life trying to stay alive. Added to these problems last year three of my family members one of whom is a six month old baby had deteriorating health conditions which needed hospitalisation and medicines which cost us major portion of the money we could earn by selling our crop. Normally we earn about 50,000 INR in a year by selling garlic and we grow small quantities of wheat and corn enough to keep the family through the year. Due to these sufferings and extra expenditure am now in great distress to be even able to buy seeds to grow crop in our field to sustain ourselves. To have one morsel of food has become a nightmare for all of us and we are nine members in the family with two small babies of 8 months and two years. The future of our survival looks very bleak given the conditions and lack of health and finance to tend the field.
I would be highly grateful if your goodselves would consider me and my family a worthy cause to extend your help to us with 5000 USD which I can use to buy necessary seeds for the crops, few essential medications, a mule for transportation, fix the leaking roof of our home, do little maintenance to our field for yielding more crop and get me, my family andour field back on track as our field is the only source of our survival. My family consist of myself, my sick wife, two sons and two daughters, 2 small babies and a daughter in law. I can provide you with my family snap, address and bank account details upon your heart permitting to help me as whatever I have stated above is genuine and true. Me and my family are seeking this help not because we are lazy but because of protracted and extreme conditions beyond our control which we have been facing since two years continuously under the circumstances outlined above. We need a helping hand to get back on our feet again as your generosity would go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of my family and bring life back into our lives.
Awaiting your kindness and response.
Warm Regards
Negi

We need help with taxes
Posted by nt1962 on 2012-02-17 15:58:59
The house was deeded to the church over 30 years ago by a former pastor of the church who had become ill and subsequently passed away. The house is not located in the same community as the church. (In fact, it is some distance away from the church, and therefore could not be utilized for church-related purposes which would have taken it off of the tax roll). As a result of gentrification in that community, the property values have increased tremendously. The property tax assessment for the property owned by the church escalated to staggering heights during the housing bubble.
Because of this the church has had much difficulty keeping up with all of the taxes on the property (a general tax, a school tax, and a village tax). The rental income from the property is used to assist the church with operating expenses, maintenance of all of the church properties, as well as paying the taxes. Finally, reassessment in the last couple of years has brought down the amount of taxes to be paid and we are better able to handle some of the current taxes due, but some of the older taxes were sold and consolidated in tax lien sales. The consolidation of the prior taxes due has hurt us tremendously. Numerous times the unpaid taxes were consolidated prior to our completion of raising enough funds to pay off some of them in their unconsolidated state. Individually some were $1,000 to $3,000 respectively. They have been consolidated totaling almost $19,000. We are not permitted to pay the liens individually which was viable, we have to pay them in total.
There is a holding company based in the community where the house is located which purchased those liens. That company is now a few months away from being able to begin foreclosure proceedings and take a valuable piece of real estate out from under the church. This would be devastating to the church.
The church has been in the process of trying to sell the house and use the proceeds from the sale to build a much needed new church building in the community it is located as well as to pay off those outstanding liens at closing, and to unload a property that was once a blessing to the church, but has long since become a burden. We donât want to lose the property. We want to be able to sell it. We had some offers on the house, but at the last minute a promising deal fell through. Previously interested buyers, for some reason now, are less interested. We feel it is possible that there may some collusion within the community where the house is located to wait for the lien process to move forward and that potential purchasers connected with the holding company will be able to take the property and flip it to tremendous financial advantage, while leaving the church with nothing for thirty years of struggling to take care of the property.
It is important that we are allowed to sell the house and build our new church. We are in the final stages of making the new building a reality. All we have to do is secure the construction financing. Receipt of a commitment letter for the sale of the house is all that stands in the way of a 40+ year dream for the congregation. It would give us the down-payment that we need to move forward.
With the construction of a new church, we would be able to operate before and after school programs, have handicap accessible restrooms, and provide better services to the community. We have a senior citizens housing complex across the street from our church, and many of the residents would attend our church but they are unable to climb up and down the stairs to the single-person restrooms in the basement. We also operate a summer day camp which would benefit greatly from having more space in which to operate. We would be able to accommodate many more youngsters, many of whose families are unable to afford the other summer camps operating in the area. We have had to turn down prospective campers because of space constraints.
Our congregational makeup has changed over the years. The financial impact of that changed has been coupled with the severe impact of the economic downturn on our community. We have more retirees now on fixed income, youth, and small children, many of whom have young mothers, and some people who are working age, mostly with working class wages. We need to build a church to better meet the needs of our congregation and community. We operate a food pantry and soup kitchen which would be able to open more days a week with bigger pantry space and a modern commercial kitchen.
As I stated, we are in the final stages of the building project. We have our permits, plans, and contractor selected. We are ready to obtain financing. The congregation, which has always striven to do much with little, has invested much in this projected over the years and the sale of this property owned by the church is the one thing that stands in the way of it happening. Please do not let us lose this property just so a few people can make a quick buck. Help us to pay off these tax liens so that our church will be able to help transform an entire community!

Help For My Animal Sanctuary
Posted by crazycatlady on 2011-12-27 03:58:25
A few years later I met then married a man who turned my life upside down. I discovered he didn't like me or the animals and was using me for what little money I had until last year when he found a woman ten years older that him that was quite wealthy so he left me for her (good riddance). Well he left me over $70 000 in credit card debt and because of this every month I struggle to pay my utility bills. A few months ago I already re-financed my mortgage and paid off the largest of my debt. I now am in for over $20 000 and I am truly at the end of my tether. I was hopeful after being profiled on the news show W5 (March 5 2011) here in Canada that I might get a bit of help from donations but they made the episode more about animal hoarders which I am NOT and while they didn't lump me in with the hoarders they suggested that in the future I may become one. All the animals in my care are immediately assessed by a vet (she is wonderful, comes to my home and offers me hugely discounted services) and all are vaccinated and spay/neutered asap as I wouldn't want to add to the pet overpopulation and when healthy adopted out to vetted homes. Almost all are dropped off sick and require medications, some for life. Since I've been involved in rescue I've become well known around the village so I have animals dropped off almost weekly, and if by chance I'm not home many times people will leave them boxed or even loose by my back door/yard. Lately I've had to turn people away since I can't afford the surgeries anymore and I dread to think where these animals are going since there is no official local animal shelter. Currently I have 2 horses, 8 assorted chickens, 6 rabbits, 5 dogs and 38 cats that are ready for new homes. My feed bill alone is over $200 per week which would be fine if I didn't have the huge debt hanging over my head. Please help if you love animals and are in better financial shape than I am...any amount would be most helpful.
Thank you in advance for your time,
Xandra

last resorts. I am a stay at home father of 4 children. A two year old, 3
year old, 5 year old and 12 year old. My wife works and I have to stay home
because someone needs to watch the kids. (if I worked I would make less then
the amount I would pay out in daycare) I would ask our family but they are
taped out and have already been giving us money for years now.
We make to much money for food stamps so if it was not for the Food Pantry
we would be starving right now. We barley make our bills (rent, phone,
electric, heat, etc.)
I have No idea what we are going to do for Christmas. We dont even have a
tree. And presents for the kids are out of the question.
Winter is starting and our vehicle has a problem with the 4 wheel drive. It
was working all summer but now that we need it for snow and ice the 4 wheel
drive is out.
Its hard to make due with only one vehicle when the kids have to go to
doctors appointments and such. My wife works 1 hour commute away and I have
to drive her with the kids back and forth if there is an appointment. This
spends the whole day and lots of gas just for one appointment.
We have a second vehicle with good 4 wheel drive but the front end needs
work at least $1000.00 in work. Because of this I am house bound with all
the kids most days. Life is starting to drive me crazy without wheels to at
least take the kids some place and have some adult conversation.
I find myself going stir crazy being house bound. Even to go to the food
pantry my wife had to take time off work so we had wheels and then make up
the time later in the week.
We used to live in 600 square feet. Small but cheap to heat. Luckily we are
in a village with a large house now. My mother just put the down payment on
the house and we pay the mortgage. She is now taped out.
The added expense of more room to heat is adding up. Luckily the government
and family has helped with some of the added expense for fuel oil ($3.95 per
gal) and wood ($60 per face cord). But I don't know what we are going to
do to make it through winter with all this snow falling right now.
I feel better just talking about it. Just knowing someone is listing makes
me feel at ease. Thank you for your time and your donations.

Over the years Iv tried to visit as much as I can but with schooling taking up most of my time and due to us living about 9 hours apart, is been difficult.
We are both very similar, which causes a lot of arguments, both equally stubborn. We fight a lot.
Sheâs dealt with a lot, such as a three-year prosecution agents her, which absolutely broke her, mentally and emotionally, it was a hard time for both of us, my grades suffered a lot and I began to worry about her mental health. Because it went on for so long, a lot of our arguments would be blamed on the stress of the whole situation. I always thought that once it was over, we would get better.
I graduated from university a year ago and itâs the first time in a long time that Iâve been able to visit more frequently. I thought it would be a great opportunity for us to fix our broken relationship,
When ever I visit, it gets to about a week, a week and a half and I just have to leave in fear our relationship would just crumble, this time itâs a little different, I broke up with my boyfriend of a year, who I was living in the city with and decided to get away so about two weeks ago I came to my mums, then within a few day a friend of ours (yes we share friends, we are VERY similar) was raped and beaten up, said friend is very messed up about it and has needed me around, you know just to listen, pretty much just to be here. So I decided to stay longer, when out of the blue my dog died. This dog was my guardian angle and helped to keep me strong when times where hard. Having him leave me was probably the single most heart-breaking moment of my life so far (donât think Iâm just inexperienced with life (my partner (my first-love/childhood sweetheart) of 7 years and I broke up less then two years ago) I know heart-break.
We have argued less this time considering the circumstances, but not for lack of her trying, well thatâs how it feels. With everything thatâs going on anytime I feel tension in the air I have just said âNo, not now, we will not argueâ and either left the room or had a time out if we were in the car or something.
Sheâs very âbohemianâ has a very radical way of thinking, outspoken and always on the side of the underdog, I have absolutely no problems with this and I most defiantly love her for exactly who she is. Sheâs been the best teacher of life, sheâs had a hard life, and I feel I am more educated against the world because of the way we can talk about things.
When Iâm here I try to put some order to the chaos, you know tide up (its always a mess) itâs a big house and can take ages to clean ever room.
I just broke down, I was cleaning the kitchen, and this isnât just polish and vacuum. I was removing all the moulding fruit and vegetables from the bowl, when I noticed that she had three bags of potatoes in the fruit bowl. I wrapped them up to put them in the potato draw only to find a draw full of rotting potatoes.
She hoards stuff, I tried to throw away a few disposable Tupperware boxes when she told me she uses them to store things, fair enough. Then I notice a huge stack of them on top of the cabinet, like she hasnât even considered using those ones.
This all sounds so stupid, I know, but usually when id be strong enough to just brush it off and sort it out, I donât have that strength rite now, I am so worried for her, I am beginning to feel as though perhaps I should move in with her to be her carer, but we donât have the sort of relationship that we could live together full time, last time that happened I was 15 and I would hate to live in this area again, I have nothing but bad memories from my childhood here. The people are very closed minded and keep them selves to them selves, my mum loves it here, she grew up in Africa, and says round here reminds her of a happier time. Itâs not for me.
And on top of it all, she doesnât earn very much money (she practically volunteers at a place to help people with special needs) and iv been struggling to find a job for months now, iv started receiving benefits with is £50 per week, but the debt of our dog dyeing is at least £500, and our other dog has to have an operation to have his eye removed this Friday (which is just more £££) all my benefits are going towards that and all the money she can keep aside goes on that as well.
The house is falling down, her ex husband was a builder and they had brought a run down place to do up, he smoked away all his time and practically nothing got done. Sheâs lived here for over 10 years and only a few weeks ago had windows fitted in the kitchen, before it was just stretched plastic. Most of the walls are just plasterboard, the sink is broken, we have to carry water down from the bathroom to do the washing up.
I donât know what to do, I worry about her mental well being, I donât know if sheâs developing Alzheimerâs, she had a memory test at the doctors and they said she was fine, but I just donât see how this can be the case. I worry about her physical state, she has extremely bad arthritis and struggles to move somedays. I worry about her financial situation, but without work thereâs nothing more then £50 a week I can do.
I am not keep my job search limited to my degree; I have applied for supermarkets, MacDonaldâs, all manor of places all over the country.
I feel more then ridiculous for posting this, but I donât want to be a burden on the people in my life, and simple donât know what to do anymore.
Grammar and spelling arenât a strong point of mine, please donât judge me on that.
TL;DR - I need to help my mother financially, to fix the crumbling house, to pay vet bills, to fix our relationship and just to survive when life is hard.
