Ex-husband vacations while I prepare to file bankruptcy

Posted by SusieQ1064 on 2012-02-18 15:58:16

After 19+ years of marriage, I divorced just over 1 year ago. My ex-husband & I have 2 children; a high school senior & a college sophomore. During our kids' early years, my ex-husband's salary allowed me to be a stay-at-home mom, which I loved. His employment involved extensive travel & many moves; 8 moves in 19 years. I supported the moves & the job changes, including a failed franchise in which we lost over $150,000. I earn $25,000/year; he earns approximately 6 times more; however, the divorce settlement saddled me with $60,000 of credit card & loan debt. I was emotionally drained, out of money & agreed to the terms. He is 16 years my senior & near retirement. A prenuptial agreement bars me from any of his retirement. He earned the money, and I am not bitter about the retirement aspect. I have stopped paying the credit card & loan payments as rent & car payment are more important. His girlfriend is a wealthy widow with 3 homes & a Lexus. I don't want to file bankruptcy, but I believe that's my only option. I do not have a college degree. I have a good job with good health benefits. I work for the state of WI, have not had a raise in 3+ years and do not see a raise in the near future. I have taken on a 2nd job. I have no need for vacations or material possessions; I do want is to live a life where I am not afraid to answer the phone for fear that caller is a creditor. I would also like to contribute to our children’s college education. I sincerely thank you for your time.

falling apart

Hi people

I wont make this ultra long or at least I will try not to ok :)

My name is Christine,I am Scottish, mother of 4 really lovely kids ranging from 2 years to 14 years.

I have been with their father since I was young (16), I have suffered from depression for a long time and never sought help till about 3 years ago.

My partner worked while I stayed at home and looked after the kids, I tried :)

2 years ago my partner was made redundant, since then he's had some work but its been poorly paid and only short term, we have had to rely on the government for help and let me tell you its been no where near enough!
we own our own home (mortgage) and they wont pay it all while he's jobless and we dont get enough money to cover the rest, we have accrued debt from the mortgage and from most of our other bills.
We have been close to eviction on more than 2 occasions, we borrowed the money from his mum, really great of her, she decided she didn't want re-paid which was awesome, but we only just covered that one event, we are still behind and struggling like crazy.
We are all stuck together in this now cramped house as when we initially bought it, we only had 2 kids!
we dont get out, we dont take vacations or holidays, we dont drink nor smoke and though we'd like one, we dont have a car (we cant even drive).

I am stressed, he's stressed, itsnot a nice atmosphere at home like every single day, the kids argue (older kids), mostly over space and we all argue and shout and get upset.

My oartner has been for many job interviews and so far no success, we are not scroungers, he's worked all his adult life and he hates not working and being stuck with me 24/7.

There are some things that have happened, things that I dont want to mention, personal stuff, breaks my heart.........we just need a break, I have been on the verge of a meltdown, surely it cant just continue?

I anyone is in a position to help not just me but my whole family, then please.....it would be the best thing ever!!!

this is probably the most sincere thing I ever wrote right there.

Kind and warm regards Christine

Financial help for this hard working family

Posted by kworsham74 on 2012-01-25 10:58:23

My husband and I live on a small family farm with our 2 lovely girls. We not only run the farm, but we both work full-time outside the home. We have been through a lot in our 9 yrs of marriage. Here is a short version of what we have gone through since 2003. When we got married my husband found out he had cancer. He lost his job because of it and we had to move in with family for 6 months till we found a home. Later on, I lost my job and we had to move in with other family members till we found another home. We family were able to put a home on the family farm that we run and we have been there for 7 yrs now. An uncle was about to lose his home, so we helped him out. Now we are very financially strapped. It seems when things are going well, BAM! We get slapped down. With all our misfortunes we have cleared out our savings and paying off our credit cards (which are cut up) and medical bills. We have also put a hold on having anymore kids because we just can't afford it. We would love at least 1 more, but right now that is impossible. My husband really deserves the help because he works so hard for all that he has gone through. Last winter he was helping family and friends out so much that he got pneumonia and almost had to be hospitalized. We don't live a life of luxury and never really take vacations. All our money goes to bills and food. I have been collecting cans to help pay for groceries, I use coupons and all our change goes into a jar. I have also sold some of my Breyer horse collection and coin collection to pay some bills. I was going to donate my eggs for some money, but I am over 30 yrs old so I can't. We are not on any kind of assistance so everything we pay for comes out of our pocket. It breaks my heart to hear our girls talk about their friends going to these fun places like The Great Wolf Lodge and the beach for the weekend because I know we can't afford it. My husband gets after me because all the gift cards that I get for the holidays I save and buys presents for the girls on their birthdays. Sometimes it's the only way to get them things. Our debt is almost $10,000 and every month I do try to pay extra on at least one. I can hardly sleep because I am so worried about our finances and I have become depressed because of it. My goal is to get out of this debt, give the girls some great family memories and hopefully have 1 more child. This "beg" is mainly for my husband and child becuase they deserve the best! Donations of any kind would be appreciated. Thank you so much and God Bless.

Money for my college Spring 2012 Semester

I am a junior attending a UC university institution. I am a first generation college student and come from a poor family. My dream is to be an engineer and help support my family as well travel around the world during vacations to places in need such as Haiti, Japan, and spread the word of God. I want to be able to continue my studies and I don't want to put any worry in my mom since she has my siblings to take care of.I need one more year to finish my degree and I am sad that I don't have enough financial assistance to pay for it. All I am asking for is a generous donation and may God Bless you and your family. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and donating!

HELP us move to get help for our disabled baby and find work

Posted by jonesybonesy on 2011-11-24 12:58:03

In 2009 our son was born very prem.
We had lost 11 babies to miscarriage and a daughter to
Stillbirth.
Our boy is a true miracle as my wife has a blood disorder.
Our little man has mild cerebral palsy and autisim and we try to help him to our best abilities but due to me losing my job when the company i worked for, for 5 years went bust things are beyond tough.
The worst thing of all my boss wasnt paying my social security contributions so by spanish law we only get 59 euros a week for 3 of us to live on.
This also means he only gets emergency health care. No vacations, physio or speech therapy.
My wife and i live on toast so he can eat better but its not enough.
We have 9000 euros of debt and owe 9 months rent.
We will be evicted soon.
Both my wife and myself wish to return to the uk after 10 years here but we need money for flights, warm clothing and money to rent an apartment.
With christmas coming up it will be another year and the economic situation is getting worse here.
My son and wife need urgent medical treatment this situation is so terrible.
If you can help you would have our gratitude and prayers forever.

Mom on disability needs atty to stop ex from terminating his support

Posted by Belladawnas on 2011-08-06 02:58:21

I'm the mom of an amazing 11 yr old son. My ex husband of 13 yrs left me after I had a botched spine surgery. It left me with a chronic pain disease in both legs, and unable to work. My ex remarried illegally immediately after our divorce last year. He filed a motion to terminate support. He bought his new wife a new sports car this month, and has gone on 6 vacations I've been able to document in 6 months. While my attorney says I will win my case and he will most likely have child support increased, I do not have the 3500$ retainer I need. I lost my home when my ex was ordered to pay my mortgage during divorce and didn't, so I have nothing to loan against. I'm desperate. My supports the only way I have to care for my son that I have physical custody of. I struggle to make ends meet every month as it is. I'm also in need of surgery that I can not pay the Medicare co pay on.

Any help and prayers are appreciated.

I am only allowed to get 31 hours at my job because companys dont want full time employees any more because then the have to give them binefits and paid vacations heaven forbit! The kids are starting school in a couple week and inspite of all my hrd work I have nothing for school clothes and supplies any help would be grately appreciated and will be passed on to someone else when I am in a better place.

pride aside- we need help

Posted by gomes2000 on 2011-06-11 13:58:55

I am a stay at home mom of 3 kids and a new baby, my husband works out of town in a different state for 4-5 days a week and it is costing us a fortune in gas right now for him to drive back and forth, he has to stay in hotels during the week because we cant afford to pay a security deposit on another apartment. We already lost our house due to the so-called "Government mortgage recovery plan", which is really a giant scam. Don't fall for it, they wont help you!
Usually my husband has to use most of the money leftover every month to pay to go to work, and the kids and I are barely scraping by. I just had a baby, I can't go to work we are always on the verge of getting the utilities shut off,we have pawned and sold everything you can think of. we are not irresponsible and we live very frugally, no cable tv, no credit cards, no fancy vacations etc. We just need some way to get ahead. I believe in "pay it forward", and I would be willing to do just that as soon as I can. every dollar. Im not asking for a million bucks here, just whatever you can spare.

I am about to lose my job

Posted by mona08 on 2011-01-21 23:58:58

I have nevery had to resort to bewging, bu I now have to swallow my pride. When I see the people on the street with signs "please donate-I need to eat", I an one step away from joining them.

I am 58 years old, havew had a good jog. But now, as is every corporation's sweet dream, my job is being outsourced and I wil be without work.

Unfortunately, I have had to help family members in the same situation. And now, I have no one to turn to.

I have had to use credit cards to pay the utility bille, water, sdewage. I don't use the telephone any more because it is an added expense.

I have multiple sclerosis and have had to lie to employers to keep my job, I have not had any relapse, abd have been able to work. I am a hard worker, and have worked on contract for the same compamy fopr 5 years. That means I have ahd no benefits, vacations, or sick time.

I have avoiut $8,000.00 in credit debt between car repairs, medical bills, and paying for every day expenses (food, gas, utilities).

The medical bills are from the mediction that I take with MS, self-injectible medication which I can't afford.

I am asking for help to pay off this debt to prepare for unemployment. I have done everything from project management to tech support, so I am already looking for work to prepare the minute they say our jobs are ended.

Until I am gainfully employed again, it will be difficult to meet my obligations. Please find it in your heart to help the less fortunate.

Employee of 501 c(3) non-profit needs financial assistance

Posted by mbtravis on 2010-10-20 15:58:58

My name is Matt. A few years ago I started a non-profit organization to encourage students to pursue careers in science, math and technology. There's a tremendous shortage of engineers and scientists in the country. I thought this was a need I could help with. For awhile, I worked on it while also having a regular "day" job as a software programmer and website developer. Earlier this year, I realized the workload had become too much to have two full-time jobs, so I left my "day" job to focus on the non-profit. Of course, this isn't a good time for non-profit organizations or charities. In fact, donations and grants are almost zero at this point.

The organization is the Aerospace Research & Engineering Systems Institute, Inc., http://www.aresinstitute.org. If you visit the website and click on the "About" link, you can read more about it and there's also a link to the official IRS registration of our 501 c(3) tax-exempt status.

So, here's the situation...

Since the spring, I've put as much as I can into the company from my personal assets to keep it alive. I've sacrificed my car, luxuries like cable TV (ALL luxuries, in fact) and have even reduced my food budget to next-to-nothing. I'm actually relying on friends donations of food and household items otherwise I'd be down and out for sure.

I do NOT have any credit card debt; do NOT have student loans; have NOT lived beyond my means; and I have never bought luxury items or things not necessary to live. In short, I live within my means and sacrifice as much as I need to. I haven't been foolish by running up credit cards, buying a house or car that I can't afford or going to movies and vacations when I can't afford it. In other words, I know I'm doing the right thing and playing by the "rules" such as they are.

I'll also point out that I have been employed, full-time, since the 1990's. I still work every day, 12+ hours, and don't intend to change that.

So, no debt, full-time job, what's the problem? The problem is that I put so much into the non-profit that I am not exactly financially self-sufficient right now. Worse than that, more importantly, the non-profit (like many these days) is struggling to remain viable. There's just no money out there it seems.

Because of that, I'm turning to any resource I can find on the internet and off in order to ask the good people who are around for assistance. I'm not asking for any specific amount - $1 or $100, it's all helpful. It will help me personally as well as my company as it tries to make it through the recession as well.

If anyone out there can help, please use the PayPal Donate button on here. I can't offer anything in return except eternal gratitude, although I wish I could do more.

Thanks so much.
