HELP US PLEASE - HOME IN DANGER OF REPOSSESSION

Posted by FallenFromGrace on 2012-05-15 05:58:23

Dear Sir or Madam,

We are an average family who have fallen upon very hard times. My wife was let go from her work about 18 months ago with no severance pay and has been unable to find any payable employment since... she has been volunteering at the local school as a classroom assistant but really could do with finding some new work soon.

As you can imagine with my wifes income lost to us things have been tight for a while now so it was an awful second blow when my employers went into administration and the factory was finally closed with all employees laid off, again with no severance pay just over 6 months ago now by the Administrators... we had been hopeful of a buyout but it didn't happen and the whole lot of us were placed onto the scrapheap. As it was we had no payrise for the previous four years...

Things are now hitting crisis point for me and my family, I have only been able to find 4 weeks of paying work in the last six months... we have sold the family car to try and keep my daughter in college and have the house up for sale in the hope we can pay off the capital and start renting but if we don't make this next mortgage payment the bank are going to start foreclosure on us... as for my slightly younger son and his college future that is currently looking very unlikely...

The family pets (2 Cats and 1 Staffie Dog) are as much a part of this family as any of us yet we are now with great reluctance and heartfelt pain considering having to give them up to a the local rescue centre... I think I will cry a thousand tears if I have to let them go but I need to be pratical and focus on my wife and children and putting them first... For I will cry a million tears if I let them down any further than I already have...

Any HELP you can give us will be most gratefully received and a prayer of thanks will be said for every penny.

God Bless you and God Bless America.

Many thanks for reading this.

Hi there,

My name is Lea all the way from Australia. I have 3 beautiful children that I am raising on my own. We fell on hard times just over 1 year ago. I am looking forward to starting work in 6 weeks time. This is the most positive I have been in a very long time. The problem I have is with my car. It is 14 years old and runs fine sometimes. Last year I spent $1000 repairing an oil leak and a few other mechanical problems. Now though the shocks have given in and the car is not safe to drive any more :(. Today was the worst I feel, it felt like I was on a boat at sea :(. The expense to replace them with labour costs is astronomical. I really don't have the money to foot this bill. The car isn't worth a lot and I thought it would be better and safer to buy another one given the constant repair bills. I have always driven it nicely and looked after it. The timing is not very good right now. In my part of the world cars are very expensive even for the most basic one. I don't need anything trendy just a car for the kids and I. I need it to commute 35 mins each way to work and be able to drop them off at school and daycare everyday. A road worthy vehicle like the one I have now (Toyota Camry Wagon) costs $3,500. For a few months I joined various on line opportunities that all promised to make me money but what happened instead was that I lost the last few hundred dollars I had on advertising which was intended to invite others to join. Unfortunately, it didn't work :(. Please, if there is anyone out there reading my story will you send just $1.00. I am going to the bank next week to find out about a loan but I am unlikely to get anything. I was driving my husbands other car but two weeks ago he had an accident resulting in his main car being written off. He has now had to take his car back. We are currently separated and he is in debt a mile high. To anyone who would like to see proof of the repairs my wheels need I will be happy to supply them to you. I have nothing to hide at all and this is a genuine request for help with a car. I am sure to anyone this is a massive request and I'm sorry about that. I really want to get back on my own two feet. Along with starting a new job I am also studying on line as an external student of my local university. For now though a helping hand however big or small will have the impact to change our direction in life. Without a road worthy set of wheels getting to work will be a really big problem.

In return I am willing to offer an eternal friendship :) Who doesn't need a friend? I would also like to send a little present, something Australian to anyone who will help me out. I suppose as my start day gets closer the more anxious I am becoming. This car issue is causing a lot of worry :(. As things improve and I trust they will in time I want to help others on here too. To let you know a little more about us: A few Sunday's a term I lead the preschool kids Sunday School at my Church. I love it very much. Being a lone parent is not easy at all but I have come along way after battling a lot of health issues brought on by my husbands departure. I also give away any clothing my children have outgrown to anyone I know of that needs them. I also share anything I bake as long as it tastes good :). I try to live by being kind to everyone myself as one never knows what battle someone else may be facing.

Thank you for reading.

Will keep praying for a miracle.

Many blessings,
Lea

Help Keep Us out of a Shelter

Posted by JimHenryAuthor on 2011-10-09 08:58:18

A month and a half ago, I lost my job. The amount I am collecting on unemployment is about $100 a week less than my housing costs to stay in a motel. I am trying to find permanent housing that would be more affordable, but landlords are justifiably hesitant to rent to a tenant without solid employment. I have some promising leads for work, but they are unlikely to happen before I run out of resources. My son has Asperger's Syndrome, and he would likely spiral out of control if we end up in a shelter. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Cancer Survivor Needs Some light at the End of the Tunnel

My boyfriend, Paul, and I started dating in 2008. On March 2009 we celebrated our 1 year anniversary together. We made plans that day to spend our 3 year anniversary on a special vacation.
Two days after our 2 year anniversary Paul was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma. He had 2 major surgeries and had to suffer by receiving chemotherapy once a week for an entire year. In March 2010 he finished up chemo and three months later he had a CT scan that showed he was cancer free!!
Due to college expenses and his medical bills, it is unlikely that we can afford to go on our dream vacation this coming March so I am asking for your help for any monetary donation. Paul is an amazing person that has shown such strength through this ordeal and he deserves this vacation more than anything. He even managed to stay in college and manage a 3.0 while receiving chemo every friday and being sick for the next 3 days. Cancer has put a strain on our relationship and this vacation would be a great way for us to get past cancer and have a little fun!!! Your help would be greatly appreciated!!!

A cry for help from a blind man

Corey was born with a degenerative eye disorder known commonly as Leiber's Congenital Amorosis (LCA). When Corey was younger, he could see things much better. Like most children, he rode a bike, played video games, and could even read small print. Today, many years later, Corey no longer has the ability to even read large print books. He is only able to read with the aid of a CC-TV or possibly with the use of software such as Zoom Text or other screen enlargement programs when his limited vision permits. Since reading this way is so incredibly slow, Corey has switched over to using screen reading software instead. The program he uses is called Jaws For Windows: a software package put out by Freedom Scientific. Recent advancements in research on LCA has shown promise of a cure for some who suffer with this visual disorder. Unfortunately, Corey does not have the specific type of LCA that researchers have been making headway with.

On November 7th, 2009, Corey was married to his beautiful wife. And it was shortly after this time that the Social Security Administration (SSA) set events into motion that would later lead to Corey's SSI benefits being revoked in February of 2010. Their claim was that Corey’s wife earned too much under the law for Corey to continue receiving his disability benefits. To make matters worse, the SSA charged Corey with $2696 in overpayment charges, which had accrued during the four months that Corey awaited the SSA to make a decision in his case. During that time, Corey was using his monthly benefit check to pay for his general living expenses and had no way of knowing ahead of time how the SSA would rule in his case. The hit was devastating to the newly wed's financial situation. Since Corey had no income, being disabled, and little to no savings, the burden of paying back his SSI overpayment fell on the shoulders of his wife.

This situation has caused many to question the way the SSA handles disabled clients. One reason is because the SSA did not stop payments to Corey during the months in which his case was being decided. Since the SSA had not at that time positively ruled against Corey and also did not stop payment on his monthly checks, it raises the question of how valid the claim of the SSA was that Corey owed an overpayment. What was Corey supposed to do while he was awaiting the decision of the SSA during those months, not pay his bills, which is what benefit checks from the SSA are designated for in the first place? What if Corey’s wife had not been able to repay the overpayment? How many disabled people have been put through this ringer and their financial situations completely wrecked by the SSA and its negligent policies in the process?

Another important question that needs to be investigated is how the SSA can charge an overpayment that is larger in amount than the amount the law allows an SSA recipient to save while receiving SSI or SSDI benefits. If the SSA knows that it has charged the benefit recipient more than the recipient is allowed to save under the laws governing the benefits program, then the recipient being charged the overpayment is being put in financial danger by the SSA either intentionally or through the SSA's negligence. If the recipient is able to save enough money to pay the full amount, doing so would violate the law. So, either the recipient violates the law and saves more than their benefit program allows, or they run the risk of being destroyed financially. Should struggling disabled people really be put in that situation by the SSA?

A far better policy for the SSA to employ is to recognize that a person being newly married is likely going to have a lot of costs associated with the marriage process and that maybe this is not the best time to cut their benefits off. Also, if a couple like Corey and his wife had simply cohabitated, rather than got married, the SSA would not have been able to take Corey's benefits away. Getting married really didn't change anything about Corey's need for SSI benefit money. It only changed his status on paper in the eyes of the state, and that, not a change in his disability, triggered the SSA to go after his benefits. Before Corey got married, the combined amount of Corey's SSI benefits and his wife's income made it possible for the couple to function relatively well financially. Today, Corey and his wife scrape by on her income and on whatever money they can get from selling their possessions to make ends meet.

People involved in disability law need to go after the SSA over the issue of using marriage as an excuse to rape disabled people of their much needed monthly benefits. The SSA knows fully well that it is unlikely that a person who is permanently disabled will be able to get a job that accommodates their disability--especially in a bad economy. Using marriage as an excuse to take away a disabled person's benefits only serves to put an unnecessary strain on the financial well being of a newly married couple. Why would the SSA and the federal government be a party to that?
