To be the best eye doctor but no money for education
Posted by eyedoctor on 2012-02-19 04:58:38
my name is Kate, recently I have been accepted to an optometry professional school to become an eye doctor - optometrist. The school starts in August 2012 and ends after 4 years. However the tuition fee alone costs $34000 per year and the living expense costs $20000 per year. In total, I will need to have about $55000 per year and hence $250000 over the 4 years of my study. Due to my parents' low income, the bank cannot borrow enough money for us, they can only borrow us $30000 in total. Yes, this amount is significantly less than what I would need. I have dreamed of becoming an optometrist since my high school years. During my entire undergraduate years, I worked part time at an eye clinic. I was able to gain a good understanding of the optometry field as well as what it takes to run a private clinic. I learned how to interact with staffs, patients and doctors most efficiently to ultimately provide the best patient care as possible. While most people have uncertain future, I am lucky to be sure that becoming an eye doctor is what I would like to do in the future. It is my passion, my goal, and my life. It is my ultimate goal to be an eye doctor who takes care of eyes of the poor and the underprivileged people, both in developed and developing countries. In order to achieve my goal, I must become the very best doctor by receiving the best education. If one has such strong aspiration to do a great thing for the underprivileged, how sad is it to see that person's dream being hindered due to his/her poverty? Please help me reach my dream so I can further help out others in my future. Please donate any amount you wish to help me raise $250000 for my optometry education. Thank you so much for reading my message and helping out. Thank you.
please help me to keep studying!

I've won 2 scholarships from the New York State Histotechnolgical Society but it doesn't even cover my books.

Student Loan Payment Help
Posted by Crew on 2011-05-11 18:58:15
I need your help. I have taken out over $200,000 in student loans to pay for my undergraduate and law degrees.
Since becoming an attorney, I have taken a position with a non-profit, and along with it, a low salary. I am a first generation American and I know the value of helping those less fortunate than I and this position allows me to do that. I really feel as though I am able to make a difference in people's lives, unfortunatley my job does not pay much and it is difficult for me to make my monthly payments.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I hope one day I can return the favor to others.
Thank you!
Aspiring doctor... short on rent and money... and student debt
Posted by btlaxripper on 2011-04-23 11:58:52
I live in a dingy graduate student dormitory, gas is nearly $4 a gallon here in New Orleans. I don't have enough money to go home to my family in South Carolina.
The only job I could find in this city is bussing tables..... I am a 22 year old highly intelligent man with a Masters Degree... and I am bussing tables.
I take orders from 18 year old waitresses.
But I don't mind, it helps me get by.... but barely. I live paycheck to paycheck and am scraping by.
I am incredibly driven and know that one day I will be a doctor taking care of people's problems and managing a practice. It is who I am. I am an extremely type A person...
I just tell myself that this struggling portion in my life is a character building phase--- this is when those who really want to succeed rise to the occasion, and those without the work ethic fall behind.
Come at me world.
Thank you for your help.

Happy Pink Sun Dream
Posted by HappyPinkSun on 2011-01-28 00:58:58
My name is Nay. It's a nickname. I'd like to send you a picture to show you who you are reading. I don't see a spot to post one.
I take care of my mother who has fibromyalgia (sp?), glaucoma, post traumatic disorder, and a personality disorder. I have 5 sisters but it seems that I am the only one with enough love and patience to take care of her.
When I first came to live with her, my mom stayed on her couch and cried all day. She spends 2 hours a day praying to God. She used to pray that she died in her sleep. She was severely abused by her mother and father and most of everyone. Mental illness is so hard for people to understand. She was afraid to leave the house because so many people have hurt her. Mom had not opened a book, learned to use the computer for over 30 yrs.
But now, I have her enrolled in college, reading 2 books at a time and feeling better than ever.
Now about me: I grew up in a very bad neighborhood. Only 1 person that I've grown up with went to college and has a successful career. I always promised myself that I would go all the way. I'll never stop working to be a better person.
I work as a nanny part-time. I am in grad school full-time.
It is really hard to make money. I live in a very sad state with unemployment rates over 11%.
I've overcame abuse, internal brain damage, beating the odds, and much more. I just need some help now.
I could use money for school, money to live on, money to help pay the bills, a car (since I live an hour from my university and my car is on its last legs), and friends. I don't like to complain. I like to tell success stories but this money thing is taking over everything positive in my life.
I just need a lift.
I need help.
I hope a really good person will read this and consider helping me in whatever way they can.
Even a good letter to MSU on my behalf would be appreciated. I have a 3.4 GPA but I need to raise it to 3.7 or 3.8.
In exchange I can offer a life long friendship. I am an extremely loyal person.
One day I will buy a house for me and my mom.
And then maybe I can focus on maybe having a family or rescuing animals.
I hope people do not think I am a bad person for looking for help this way. I have always been self sufficient, but now it is really difficult.
Please please write me a letter. Send me whatever you can and know in your heart that I will try to use it to make a world a better place (after I graduate).
Love and Light, XXOO
Nay

Pursuit of Education
Posted by JSmith on 2010-06-30 16:58:58
My name is Jewel Smith and I am nineteen years old. I became one of five children after my mother's marriage. Now, I am the oldest of three in our household and my mother is a single parent. When asked, "What is your favorite activity? most children would respond with a sport, videogames, or TV show. My passion is learning. I enjoy all subjects from sciences to literary works.
My mother strives to give only the best of education for my siblings and me. She made it very clear that we had to work as a team in achieving this goal. I attended a private catholic all girl high school through scholarship and financial assistance. I knew my mother couldn't afford tuition for my siblings and me. During my high school career, I excelled in AP/honors courses, maintained a high GPA, and participated in numerous organizations. Many people in my neighborhood believed I wouldn't "survive" in my high school setting because for the first time I did not attend a school with students who were of my racial or economic class. However, I was able to push through adversity even when it threatened to take my mother's life away during my junior year of high school. My mother's lung collapsed and some doctors stated she almost didn't make it. During my high school career, I learned people could cultivate their differences and come together as one entity regardless of race, class, or gender. I was able to maintain over a 3.5 GPA during my senior year and built a strong support system with faculty, friends, mentors, and family members.
I currently attend DePauw University in Greencastle, IN as an incoming junior. I have a declared major in English Writing with a possible second major in Spanish. I maintain a "B" average. I was granted a large package with my school that covers my tuition and some room and board. Unfortunately, the left over balance is still too much for my mother and I to afford. I was informed that I must pay the left over balance of $6,700 as well as my incoming fall balance of $4,000 in order to continue my education at this institution.
I believe that everyone has a special gift that helps the world become a better place. At five years old I knew I wanted to serve others as much as I can. My ultimate goal is to give back to my home community as well as those who are less fortunate in the world through education. It is through this letter that I ask for your help. I want to continue my educational career through undergraduate and graduate studies. I ask that you partner with me so that I am able to make my dream a part of reality. Thank you in advance.
