Help with leukemia bills!

Posted by MilamShane2003 on 2012-05-24 21:58:31

I am middle child of three brothers. Currently, my older brother and I are currently unemployed looking desperately to find a job again. Back in November, my mother was diagnosed with acute leukemia. A day after she was diagnosed she had a stroke and my mother has not been the same since. The stroke caused a condition called "Broca's Apasia" which affects the speech part of your brain. Basically with this condition she can understand everything spoken to her, but it's her finding those words to speak back which has been affected. No complete sentence hardly ever. Well my brother and I quit our jobs to become her caretakers at home. In to a few weeks of this we had to take her to intensive care at MD Anderson because she had developed MRSA infection (Hostpital Super-Bug), and she went into septic shock. Septic shock summed up is your organs going into failure. She was put into a sedated coma for a little over a month. She was then slowly brought out of the coma and transferred to a ICU at a Hospice/Rehabilitation Facility where the doctors estimated her recovery program to take 2-3 years. We all now how much money this will accumulate to. Her insurance is fixing to run out, and when she is put on medicaid they can take all of her assets to cover medical costs. So my brother and I had to put our house (Mom's House) up for sale so they wont take the house to cover her medical costs. If the house sells right now while my brother and I are unemployed we will be homeless. I dont know how or if websites like this really recieve donations, but it is worth a try. I am all out of options. Thanks for reading my story!

help with family of special needs kid

Posted by specialneedsmom on 2012-05-16 16:58:00

Hi I am a mom of 3 children, 1 a special needs child. I work as a nurse assistant but it only covers about half of our needs. I work hard and do my best every day and try to keep a smile and a good attitude but sometimes your best just isn't good enough. My special needs baby is 8 years old and is speech impaired, deaf in one ear, severely asthmatic, and has ADHD. Medicaid pays for most of the meds and specialists but not all. I pay for some of his meds and specialists and then there's the gas to go to and from. All in all I'm spending about $800 per month that medicaid is refusing. I haven't been able to get an answer why as of yet. I've applied for social security for him but have been denied twice and now am awaiting a hearing which I am told could be anywhere between 18 and 21 months just to get a hearing date. I only make about $1500 per month so simple things like even a trip to the laundromat is a challenge. Apart from my son's problems I also have 2 baby girls aged 9 and 6 to take care of. Thanks be to God they are healthy. All of my family has passed away due to various forms of cancer so it's just my children and my husband and self. He is out of a job presently and has been seeking work since being laid off from his last job (about 7 months). I have applied for a pell grant and registered for LPN classes at the local community college to try to help myself but it will take about 15 months to finish school let alone get a job. I've managed to pay rent but am 2 months behind on the internet bill (used for school) am 5 months behind in car payments and am at risk of a repo any day. If I lose my car then how am I going to be able to go to work, school, take the kids to school, take the kids to the doctor, grocery shop, do laundry, or anything else? I currently do not have auto insurance because I can't afford it.(was cancelled for nonpayment 2 days ago.) I managed to pay my water and cell(about $100) to keep that going. I am almost a month behind on my electricity but have managed to keep it going by paying about half the bill per month. As of now, I have a balance of $150. I don't know what to do. If anyone would please help us I would be forever grateful and appreciative.

Help with travel to hospital

Posted by SwsMum on 2012-02-16 15:58:30

HI, I'm a married mum of two, and our family is going through a tough patch. My daughter has a rare neurological condition called Sturge Weber syndrome, which consists of a large Port Wine Birthmark covering two thirds of her face, scalp, and chest, learning difficulties, speech delay, potentially glaucoma in the future. Thankfully she has never had a full seizure that so many SWS children have daily. She started school this year, and we were successful in applying for a Support Teacher and Language Therapist to help her so she could attend mainstream school. When I say successful, I mean we fought all the way !!! This extra teaching she receives means she gets a lot of homework to keep up with the rest of the class, so I went part time at work, so I could pick her up from school, at spend the time concentrating on her homework, etc. so this had a significant effect on our finances. But my husbands business was doing Ok. He and another partner run a small metal work business, just the two of them. However, since October 2011, the work for them has dried up, and there has been several months where they've not had enough business to take home any pay. We also have to take out daughter to a hospital 300 miles away for her laser surgery for the Port Wine Birthmark. The surgery is to lighten the birthmark as much as possible. So far we have seen some good results but she still has some way to go. Unfortunately, these hospital trips cost us quite a bit, by the time we pay for the fuel, overnight stay in hotel and food, etc. If any can spare any amount of cash to help us through this incredibly tough period, I would be so grateful.
Thanks for taking time to read this post.

I am a stage 4 cancer patient (lymph nodes, liver, and lung) I have been receiving treatment for the last 14 months, and I am now completely out of money. I am divorced, I have 2 kids which my exwife has custody of. A few months ago I decided to go back to work, and that just is not working to the fullest. I cant make it a full day without getting so run down that i have to leave. I try and go every day, but realistically, i get about 20 hours in a week at a time, which is enough to cover my insurance copays.
The bills are piling up, the medicine is expensive.
Between my hospital stays, i also need the care for my son who has a disease called NF1 (Neurofibromitosis)IT is a neurological disorder that among his speech delay (he is 9) he is also required to take blood pressure medicine, and the risk of a heart attack in quite high.
I notice people put some personal info on here, well, my name is Howie and I live in the Houston area, if you would like to send me a text, or to valiate that I am real and not some con artist in another country, my cell is 832-279-7571.
There are hundreds of people on here, if not thousands asking for money, so, if i am fortunate enough to have my story catch your eye, any help would be appreciated.

HELP us move to get help for our disabled baby and find work

Posted by jonesybonesy on 2011-11-24 12:58:03

In 2009 our son was born very prem.
We had lost 11 babies to miscarriage and a daughter to
Stillbirth.
Our boy is a true miracle as my wife has a blood disorder.
Our little man has mild cerebral palsy and autisim and we try to help him to our best abilities but due to me losing my job when the company i worked for, for 5 years went bust things are beyond tough.
The worst thing of all my boss wasnt paying my social security contributions so by spanish law we only get 59 euros a week for 3 of us to live on.
This also means he only gets emergency health care. No vacations, physio or speech therapy.
My wife and i live on toast so he can eat better but its not enough.
We have 9000 euros of debt and owe 9 months rent.
We will be evicted soon.
Both my wife and myself wish to return to the uk after 10 years here but we need money for flights, warm clothing and money to rent an apartment.
With christmas coming up it will be another year and the economic situation is getting worse here.
My son and wife need urgent medical treatment this situation is so terrible.
If you can help you would have our gratitude and prayers forever.

Christmas For My Brother

Posted by sweetheartsx on 2011-11-01 14:58:42

When I was younger, I was lucky enough to be around when my parents were together, had money, and doing okay-ish (granted we were still living in a horrid environment, but I still have my Barbie Talkin Town House!). My brother, who has many mental/speech issues, has not experienced Christmas but 1 in his 9 years. Dad went to nursing home w/ multiple sclerosis, mom had to run business in dangerous neighborhood, meanwhile our apartment nearby got taken because the contract expired...basically, for the next few years we financially got worse and worse. Even now, our 'stable home' is to be foreclosed.
Anyway, all I ask for is Christmas presents for him. He's a boy, so obviously guy stuff. He loves the lion king, remote control things, anything with animals. Please, please make this little boy's Christmas.
Hi. I cant believe I;m begging online. I expect no response to this, but view it as a place to vent. Good things just haven't happened to me for a long time. Here I go anyway... I am writing because I am in desperate need for help. I am a 35 year old single dad with a 9 year old daughter. Let me begin by explaining my situation. My former employer, in the building supply industry, went out of business a few years ago. The economy has not rebounded making building industry jobs scarce. I have since then put myself through schooling to become an emergency medical technician as I stand a chance at getting hired by my local fire department if the economy improves. I am aiming for a career change to get back into the work force. I had to change careers for economic as well as health reasons. Shortly after my company went out of business, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, a debilitating disease affecting the digestive tract. The disease caused me to lose 75 lbs (30% of my body mass) in 8 months. I have been proactive in drastically changing my diet and getting the proper medical care and medicine (Thank God for Medicaid).
Even with medical care, I am still sick every day but I am making the disease more manageable. I applied for disability and received a response back that my condition is indeed disabling, preventing me from working, but would resolve in a year. Hopefully it does, but it is classified as an incurable disease that leads to repeated surgeries in 75% of the patients diagnosed with the disease. On the flip side of that statistic is a growing hope that alternative therapies may work… but take time to custom tailor to the individual. They are also expensive and not covered by Medicaid or private sector insurance. I have spoken to a disability attorney who is ready to represent me if necessary. I am only seeking disability as my “Plan B” if all else fails. I want to become a productive member of society again. I do have a “Plan A”, but I have a LOT of obstacles ahead of me.
This has all had a devastating effect on my finances. Last summer my gas was turned off the day after my daughter’s heart surgery. The gas was turned back on based on medical necessity. As of this week, my gas is turned off again and LIHEAP cannot assist me. I can’t seem to ever have the “Timing” right to get assistance. My electric is also on the verge of being shut off. My home is in foreclosure but the bank has agreed to work with me if I can find employment fast. I have just received a job offer that I graciously accepted. I start in a week. Just before receiving the job offer, while biking with my daughter, I had a mini stroke which caused me to go unconscious while riding. I crashed, broke my ribs, clavicle, hurt my spine, bruised my brain and lung, received several stitches, etc.. I pray that my health stabilizes to allow me to work. My daughter lives with me in this house. I would like to save it from foreclosure mainly for her sake. It’s where she has grown up. It’s a few blocks from her school where I want to keep her. My adopted 9 year old daughter, who I love a lot, has a very difficult speech impediment and learning disability. She already has special education and speech therapy in place with professionals that have worked with her for many years and know her needs. It would be very difficult to have to move away and have to make her start over in another school. I love my daughter a lot and will do anything to provide for her a life that she deserves… with my own limited resources. I say all that to illustrate “in short” that I need help. I have asked relatives and friends for help throughout the year and they are “Tapped”. My church is also in the same situation. I have sold most of my possessions to afford my phone bill, auto insurance, and auto fuel. My daughter and I currently have Medicaid and SNAP food assistance.
My goals are to:
1) I need to rebuild my professional wardrobe. I have lost a lot of weight and consequently have been working on buying dress clothes for my new job. I am to wear solid black suits. I am a 44L with a 38” Waist and 34” Inseam. Size 14 Black oxford shoes. I will graciously accept presentable used items. I can buy 3 inexpensive nice black suits for $80 each. $50 for shoes.
2) I have to keep going to my doctors and maintain and improve my health. I have just been referred off for advanced level care. The travel expenses are going to be very high. I will have to stay overnight in a hotel somehow for some procedures.
3) I will have to afford to drive to work. I will have to keep myself insured and afford the initial cash outset for my first 2-3 weeks of work. I am traveling far to work and it will cost me about $125 a week in fuel. $60/ month in insurance.
4) I have to get my gas turned back on. I am looking at having to come up with an impossible $5000 to get it turned back on.
5) I just bought and installed an used electric water heater and dryer. I have no way as of yet to heat my house this winter.
6) I have to catch up on my $1500 electric bill. Hopefully I can do so or I will have to abandon my house and give up hope. I may have to move to a different state with different utility companies.
7) If I can accomplish the above goals in a short amount of time, I stand a very strong chance at getting my mortgage modified and staying in my home. I can then only have to worry about the basics of life in addition to my health and my daughter’s heart and special needs.
I am facing some tough challenges. I cannot do it on my own. I have nowhere to turn. I would appreciate any assistance or advice on where to go for assistance.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I appreciate your help.

My husband is in dire need of dental help. He is unemployed.

Posted by mdominey on 2011-08-08 16:58:00

We have no insurance that covers the work he needs. He needs his teeth extracted and 2 full plates. He has about 12 teeth left. We have been married for less than 1 year and he is so upset that he feels that he can not get a job because of his teeth. It affects his smile, his speech, his self-esteem. He feels so sub-conscious about this. He is unemployed and we are barely making it on my salary. We had to sell his car to pay bills, so we have one car between us. When he was a child he was calcium deprived and his parents were not into dental care. His parents had too many children and did not stress "taking care of ones health is important" I am afraid he is going to get sick. His teeth are falling out left and right and our dental insurance does not cover the cost. Please I beg, whoever reads this to donate something. My husband is now at the point where he is afraid that I will leave him if he does not look good. I tell him that I did not marry him for his outer shell, but for his heart.

Laid off losing house no health insurance

It's so frustrating to watch what is going on in Washington - and then see Casey Anthony getting million dollar offers? And presidential candidates raising and spending millions of dollars for campaign speech commercials and bumper stickers.
I have been working for 25+ years and I was so close to modifying my mortgage when I got laid off last November -
I am in a good position that no one else is around to worry about - no kids, no mouths to feed but it's getting scary -
I even applied for food stamps and am getting $25 a month - kind of low but I am glad to be getting it.
every little bit helps - thanks!

Hi,

My Name is Alyssa and I will be starting my first semester of Graduate School in August. My field of study is Speech and Language Pathology. I absolutely love my field but this particular field requires you to have at least a Masters degree to practice. After my grandfather had a stroke he had to go to a Speech Pathologist to help him re learn how to speak properly and to re train him on how to talk. The first time I took him to his appointment is the moment I knew that I wanted to become a Speech Pathologist and help others just like my Grandfather. I have completed my Bachelors degree and now am about to start my Graduate studies. I have 2 years of non stop, year round school to finish to complete my Masters. This is where my asking for help comes in. I had to work to put myself through my four years of college and have received no help from anyone. I have never been able to save much because of all my expenses with school. Now that I have been accepted to Graduate school I have been calculating the cost I will have over the next 2 years. The results have greatly discouraged me and to be honest have made me wonder if I will ever be able to do it. With all of my expenses including tuition, books, rent, bills, food, and other living expenses I have come to the conservative assessment that i will need around $50,000. Compared to the average price of grad school these days almost being $29,000 per semester, I figure if I live very conservative that I can just about get through it all with only spending $50,000. The college tells us not only in person but it says on their web site as well that you can not work and be in this program at the same time. Only 15 people were accepted into the Speech and Language Pathology program at my school and it is made clear to us that it is very intense and time demanding and that working outside of going through the program is not recommended and in fact discouraged. They tell us if we plan on working that it is recommended we wait to go through their Masters program. So here I am, I have tried applying for Grants and loans and I cannot seem to catch a break. I apologize for you having to read this long request for help but I want you to know that if you do decide to help me that you will be helping me reach my goals and dreams and in turn you will help an unlimited number of other people through my career who have speech disabilities for any number of reasons who need help to overcome it. Because of my Grandfather I am hoping to specialize in those who suffer from brain injuries or neurological damage and be able to give them the new life my Grandfather was given through his rehabilitation. He past away a few weeks ago and he will be forever missed. In honor of my Grandfather I have taken on his email address as my own. I have used it to set up the PayPal account as a sort of dedication to him in honor of him being the reason I have chosen this field of study and made it my goal in life. Any amount of money your heart tells you to donate, even if it is just one cent will help and will be greatly appreciated and put to good use and towards a life of helping others. I thank you for your time in reading this and for your help and support. I hope you have a wonderful day or night wherever you may be!

With humble thanks and appreciation
-Alyssa

Giving my daughter the best life she can have

Posted by ddallimore8 on 2011-03-31 01:58:48

I am 21 year old single mom. I was in college before I got pregnant and was planning on going back after my daughter was born. Unfortunately she was diagnosed cerebral palsy and requires ot and pt as well as speech therapy. She has so many appointments. I currently work at a restaurant making close to nothing. I tried finding a new job but no one wants to hire me because of my situation knowing I will miss work often
if I were to get enough money to get on my feet it would change my daughters as well as mine. I would be forever greatful.i know my story may not compare to others but I cant express how much I would truly appreciate any help. I feel like I have no where else to turn.

Coming Together For Cody

Posted by codysmama on 2011-02-12 21:58:58

http://www.giveforward.com/comingtogetherforcody

Please visit our page listed above to help Cody!

Our little Cody has not been well. Since he was just a month or so old he has had a problem choking when he eats. Around the time that he was eight months old we noticed he was having these choking episodes with much more frequency and they were becoming more severe. It got to the point where we were afraid to even give him a bottle without having the phone ready to call 911!

We took him to his doctor, who suggested we see a feeding specialist. And so began our journey.....

Right away Rosie (the specialist) noticed that Cody had trouble moving his tongue and chewing food. He tended to rush when he ate and that caused even more choking, but he was choking on everything- even just water. After a horrifying episode during one of his sessions, in which Cody choked on a piece of bread and turned blue, Rosie and Dr. Pepper (Cody's doctor) decided it was time for a Swallow Study.

During the study our little Cody enjoyed every last bit of barium as we watched him mash up food and try to swallow it. The speech therapist who was monitoring the test noticed that Cody's esophagus didn't seem to be moving quite right, he rarely chewed and had a lot of acid reflux going on. Aside from those observations, Cody had Oral Dysphagia as well. Those findings led us to an Upper GI Study that ruled out some really bad stuff, but Cody started having new symptoms. He was having difficulty breathing and had to be on nebulizer treatments, was increasingly grumpy, was gassy and had a very full looking belly that hurt so badly sometimes that he couldn't give us hugs. It wasn't long until he slowed down on his eating and Dr. Pepper decided it was time for a trip to Denver Children's Hospital.

In Denver Cody met a Pediatric Gastroenterologist and Pulmonary doctor who read his records and checked him in for several more tests. An Endoscopy and a Broncoscopy turned up a very nice looking esophagus (even the biopsies looked good!) but some pretty bad asthma. They placed a tube in his nose for another test called a PH Impedence Study to measure what was coming back up form the stomach and during which times it was happening. This was all very hard on our tiny little man. He had a horrible reaction to the anethesia which forced him to have to be hooked up to monitors. Anyone who knows our Cody knows what a busy little guy he is!

The results were confusing, though, because Cody had been on a medication that was supposed to help with motility and we knew it did SOMETHING for him- but with his great looking esophagus we weren't sure what it was helping with. If his esophagus was moving fine, why did a drug that was supposed to help it move make him feel a little better? The doctors decided to do a Gastric Emptying Study as well. Cody was NOT happy because he couldn't eat for yet another day. If you know our Cody- you know he loves to eat!

The next day we did the study and it didn't take long to get the results. In the time it takes the average stomach to empty, Cody's stomach had only emptied 7% of it's contents. The medication had been helping his little belly move. Unfortunately, it has some nasty side effects and he can't go back on it. They are currently trying him on a low dose of Erythromycin, which is the last medication available to treat Gastroparesis (Delayed Gastric Emptying), according to our medical team.

We soon got the results of the tube they placed in his nose, as well. Cody has a pretty big reflux problem, too. Since his belly is so slow to empty, his acid has no place to go but up. No wonder he is so grumpy. The constant flow of acid is also a huge trigger for the breathing problems he is having. They are now trying him on both Zantac and Prevacid- both drugs that have not worked well alone, but we are praying they will work better together.

We are trying hard to give Cody small meals throughout the day and to incorporate all the nutrients he needs, but its hard. With the delayed emptying we are supposed to avoid high fat and high fiber foods. We already have to avoid eggs, dairy, soy, berries and nuts due to allergies, so you can imagine what a challenge we have on our hands!

Cody's GI doctors have recomended 2-3 surgeries, including a feeding tube. Gastroparesis is a Dysmotility Disorder. There is a small chance he could outgrow this and there is also a small chance it is actually caused by something treatable- although in 60% of the cases there is no known cause.

In order to fully understand Cody's condition, why he has it and what all the options are, as well as how to care for him properly- we need to take him to Columbus, Ohio to see one of the very few Dysmotility Specialists in the country. We have no idea how long we'll have to be there or how much of this trip will come out of our pockets. Cody's insurance does not cover any travel expenses and will likely not cover any repeat testing he may need. He is currently on a modified diet and they don't cover the costs of any of that, either.

We are asking that our friends, family and anyone who is able come together to help us- both financially and spiritually. We need the finances to get us there and keep us going even when we can't work due to surgery or whatever may come; and we need your prayers and support to keep us strong as we try to manage this difficult and unfamiliar situation. We want so badly for our baby to feel better- he has brought us so much joy and is truely our little sunshine!

Thank you all so much for taking the time to read our story and for doing what you can!

Single Mom of 2 Toddlers - We Need Money For Food - Please Help Us!

Posted by singlemomoftwo on 2011-01-25 21:58:58

We need money for food and gas to take my youngest daughter to doctor's appointments. My husband and I are divorcing, but according to my attorney, it could take up to 2 years for him to be ordered to pay financial support. The earliest court date I could get is for May 26 - 4 months away. We have no money for food. I have a car that is paid for already, but I have no money for gas to take my youngest to all of her doctors appointments - she is developmentally disabled, and has seizures. She is seeing several specialists right now - having tests done to hopefully reach a diagnosis, and speech and physical therapies - 1 doctor is 30 min. away and the others are 1 1/2 hours away. Please help us. We just need a little help to pay for food and gas to get to doctors appointments for the next 4 months or so, until the court orders my soon to be ex husband to pay child support.
I am not just looking for a handout here - If someone out there is willing to loan us the money to survive until the court hears my divorce case, I will pay you back!

I never thought that it would come to this. My mother who is 82 had a stroke 2 days before Halloween and is now in a care facility called Whetstone here in Columbus. She had a loan on her house thought the crooks at National City Bank. When she took her loan out back in 01 they told her that it was for 10 years and on a $38,000 loan she would pay back $40,000. Fine. Then in 2005, she received a notice in the mail that her house would be sold, and when she went to those crooks they said that they could not speak to her about it and refused to account for all the money she a had paid in the 4 years before then. To save her house she had to go bankrupt. Since then she had been paying $800 a month, she only gets $1,200 in retirement, in order to keep her house. Due to that, her gas and water was cut off and she has a 2X2 hole in her roof. When she asked that the payments be suspended so she could save to fix things and get back to a decent way of living, the bankruptcy was dimissed and she was thrown to the mercy of the bank which still has to account for all the money she paid them and who is demanding at least $20,000 to forget the whole thing. I make less than $30,000 a year and try as I might I can't do this, not without help. God, All I ask is help to save her from the street or worse. She's 82 and the stroke affected her speech and her left side to some extent. I am not asking for a hand out, simply a hand up for her. Anything amount person can give will help and will go only for her, please help me help her.

My name is Renee and i am 31 years old. I have a daughter that is disabled and recieves ssi. I was a student but am not any longer. I have been trying to get a job, however i live in the desert and am limited to the immediate area surrounding my apartment. My phone is getting cut off on monday and rent is incomplete and will be late because i have not recieved her ssi yet. We are almost out of milk( will be out tomorow) and have very limited food left until the seventh when i get food stamps. I have already exhaused most food box providers (the last one is 14 mile round trip on foot and its too hot and sunny for my daughter and me to go out that long). Anything that you could spare would help. I also need a car so that i can take her to a speech therapist and doctor and therapist to get her caught up with her motor skills. I also need help paying for that. I have bad credit and dont have credit cards otherwise i would be using them right now. I haven't done this before and am ashamed to be asking for help but we need it. Prayers are appreciated as well. If you have any questions just email me at the same address, however my internet may be shut off as well on monday, but i set that account up later so hopefully it wont be.I have a paypal account that i set up. I think that it is the same as my email (i am not sure how this works). Thank you and have a good day.
