I am the 2%, or My Life as a Teen Mom
Posted by educatedsinglemama on 2012-05-14 02:58:09
I was raised by a single parent and grew up in a town where most families were on some sort of government assistance and could barely make ends meet. I was always taught to value what I had and that hard work will always bear its fruits. My high school was filled with kids who didnât care about getting an education. I was a introverted ânerdâ who took Honors and AP classes and saw education as a way to get out of a town that didnât have much opportunity for growth. While I valued my education, I was also bored to death, even in my âaccelerated classes,â so I stupidly acted out and started to party as high school kids do. I ditched class to drink and dabbled a bit in drugs because there was nothing else to do. Even as I partied, I still managed to remain on the honor roll for all 4 years. Fast forward to the beginning of my senior year, our class had 250 kids and throughout the year approximately half of the student body dropped out at one point or another, giving up on their 14 year investment in their education. I made it to the end, but while everyone was excitedly responding to college acceptance letters, I had to throw all of mine out. Why? I was pregnant. I fully accept responsibility for my actions, but sex was not talked about in my household. I had no idea I had access to birth control or condoms and foolishly made a mistake that would change my life. I went to my prom and graduation 3 months pregnant without anyone knowing aside from my family.
The summer after graduation was spent brainstorming options and finding a job to help support my unborn child. I decided to keep the baby, thinking I would give it up for adoption. I was too immature to take care of myself, and now a baby? No way. As the months progressed, I fell in love with the baby and decided to keep her and raise her with the help of my family. I was excited but deep inside I was depressed. I really wanted to go off to college and live the life of a student living on campus, making new friends, staying up late to cram for midterms and possibly travel a bit. I couldnât do that anymore and the thought of experiencing college in any other way didnât entice me. I also knew if I didnât get an education, Iâd be stuck in a cycle of dead end jobs all my life. I knew I didnât want to struggle like Iâve seen my family fight just to put a decent meal on the table and keep the lights from getting shut down.
I started college two months after my daughter was born. She was perfection and an incredible motivator. Iâve always thought that she deserves something better, beyond what I can give her but I decided to try my best to give her an amazing life. Since I just had a baby, I wanted to explore the opportunities I had outside of a traditional classroom in college. Luckily, the local community college offered online courses which only required me to be in class on the first day, at midterms and during finals week. I did this for a year and a half until I took every online course possible. Then it was time for full immersion into college. Here came daycare and having to balance college life with working and a small child.
My average day in college looked like this: weâd have to wake up at the crack of dawn so my daughter and I could ride a 45-minute bus to school. Unlike most of my classmates, I had to dash straight from work to class or go to work right after class so that I could pick up my daughter from school at a proper hour. I was very fortunate to land a job in a small office as an office assistant during college that would later prove invaluable. The pay was ok, but I was allowed to tailor my schedule to be compatible with my changing class load every semester. After our day was done came another bus ride. Once we got home, Iâd have to make dinner, pack us lunch for the next day, prepare her backpack with extra clothes plus wash and prepare a dayâs worth of bottles for my daughter. After I put my daughter to bed was the only time I had for homework. Iâd stay up until about 2am every night doing my reading assignments or writing papers only to have to get up 3 ½ hours later to start my day again.
I did this every day for 5 ½ years.
Was it worth it? Heck yeah. I got my bachelorâs degree on my wall as proof. I am the first person in my family to ever get a degree. I have multiple relatives my age who ended up dropping out for various reasons yet I managed to graduate (with honors!) while juggling a small child and a demanding job. Aside from raising my daughter, this is what Iâm most proud of thus far. I read online that less than 2% of teen moms attain a college degree before age 30. Iâm stoked beyond words to be a part of that 2% (Source) I hope that this struggle and success will set an example to my daughter and show her that hard work does pay off.
After college, I worked a few jobs that I wasnât too keen on. Too corporate, too stuffy, too bureaucratic to evoke any change and make an impact. I wanted to wake up every morning and feel inspired to go to work. I didnât just want a paycheck, I wanted to engulf myself within organization so that I could kick ass and take names. I also wanted a 401(k), health benefits and life insurance so that my bases could be covered in old age. But mainly I wanted to wake up invigorated every morning and be able to pay my bills. After college, my daughter and I moved into our first home. I loved waking her up in her room filled with the girliest of things. I was a proud mamaâon my own, college educated and living life as an independent woman.
Independent but unfulfilled. That is, until I was introduced to the CEO of my most recent employer. We hit it off immediately and within two week was offered the chance of a lifetime. I was invited to join his multimillion dollar company and close-knit team as his right hand. Iâd learn all the inâs and outâs of running a business in a dynamic industry and receive a nice salary. After a bit of contemplation, I decided to resign from my stuffy job to join a company I was proud to be apart of. My job was great. It was flexible, nurturing, educational and insightful. In a few short weeks, I was in the trenches with my boss handling everything from sales to contracts to finance to HR. That is, until the company suddenly went out of business. I wonât get into the details but I was told Iâd have a month before we were all let go. This was the job I wanted to settle in and dedicate years to, not just a job really but a mission to which I was dedicated.
I was laid off in March with no severance pay as the company had nothing. I had a small savings which I tapped into as I began searching for a job. I had to file for unemployment for the first time, which was hard as Iâve prided myself on not having to use government resources to pay my bills. I have almost a decade of solid work history and yet Iâm struggling to find a job. Places are hiring but theyâre scarce and donât always offer pay that can support a family.
My bills are piling up and I have family and friends that are in no position to help me out. Unemployment can only pay so much and it isnât enough to put a home-cooked meal on the table or keep everything paid. Iâm in the process of starting up two businessesâone that peddles vintage finds and another that provides folks with stellar resumes to land their dream job so that I can increase my cash flow, but in the meantime, Iâm asking for any donations to my cause. Iâm willing to offer any services in return for a donation over $30 via paypal. Thereâs a button below where your transaction will be processed safely and gratefully!

Needs Job!
Posted by dew31 on 2012-02-17 03:58:05
I need a job! Any job, doing anything! I have carpentry skills, computer skills, and sales experience. I dont have March rent and am subletting my apartment to get out of the lease. Where I go I am not sure. It has been so tough lately that eating 1 meal a day is a luxury. Today I ate left over french fries, about 1 servings worth. That was my breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I have no insurance, never collected a unemployment check, or govt check in my life. No car, no money. Losing hope.
I have $8 to my name. No checks coming in and I am really worried. Im not a drunk/ drug addict, just fallen on hard times. I never imagined myself being in this position. Never thought it would happen to me. I guess Im just reaching out for any potential job offers, Or help.
Sorry. Thank you.
P.S. I am in Chicago, and will travel anywhere for work. Or even telecommute. Anything...

Veteran Needs Help
Posted by sboisvert180 on 2011-12-29 16:58:00
To make a long story short I lost my job due to the heart attack, lost my beautiful home because I had no job (sold all my home contents first to try and raise money to keep it â failed), lost my great F150 truck, and even lost my dog. The only apartment we could get didnât accept pets.
Thank God I am a Marine and learned to adapt and overcome. It has been three years but now I really need to ask for help. My wife and I have no insurance except what the VA offers (can't afford Medicare part B) and I already owe them $755 for co-pay on many medications. I have had to wait for a kidney stone operation for over a year now as they are booked solid for this type of operation. This operation, outside of the VA, cost approximately $1800. In addition I have numerous medical bills from my heart attack after care, diabetes and having numerous operations to remove two toes on my left foot. I sincerely want to pay these people as they deserve it but to do so I need help.
Please send whatever your heart will give. My wife and I will thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Help Me Get Back To Work. I Have A Job Offer, But Need Help To Work. Please Read
Posted by GregHasHope on 2011-09-05 04:58:15
Even with medical care, I am still sick every day but I am making the disease more manageable. I applied for disability and received a response back that my condition is indeed disabling, preventing me from working, but would resolve in a year. Hopefully it does, but it is classified as an incurable disease that leads to repeated surgeries in 75% of the patients diagnosed with the disease. On the flip side of that statistic is a growing hope that alternative therapies may work⦠but take time to custom tailor to the individual. They are also expensive and not covered by Medicaid or private sector insurance. I have spoken to a disability attorney who is ready to represent me if necessary. I am only seeking disability as my âPlan Bâ if all else fails. I want to become a productive member of society again. I do have a âPlan Aâ, but I have a LOT of obstacles ahead of me.
This has all had a devastating effect on my finances. Last summer my gas was turned off the day after my daughterâs heart surgery. The gas was turned back on based on medical necessity. As of this week, my gas is turned off again and LIHEAP cannot assist me. I canât seem to ever have the âTimingâ right to get assistance. My electric is also on the verge of being shut off. My home is in foreclosure but the bank has agreed to work with me if I can find employment fast. I have just received a job offer that I graciously accepted. I start in a week. Just before receiving the job offer, while biking with my daughter, I had a mini stroke which caused me to go unconscious while riding. I crashed, broke my ribs, clavicle, hurt my spine, bruised my brain and lung, received several stitches, etc.. I pray that my health stabilizes to allow me to work. My daughter lives with me in this house. I would like to save it from foreclosure mainly for her sake. Itâs where she has grown up. Itâs a few blocks from her school where I want to keep her. My adopted 9 year old daughter, who I love a lot, has a very difficult speech impediment and learning disability. She already has special education and speech therapy in place with professionals that have worked with her for many years and know her needs. It would be very difficult to have to move away and have to make her start over in another school. I love my daughter a lot and will do anything to provide for her a life that she deserves⦠with my own limited resources. I say all that to illustrate âin shortâ that I need help. I have asked relatives and friends for help throughout the year and they are âTappedâ. My church is also in the same situation. I have sold most of my possessions to afford my phone bill, auto insurance, and auto fuel. My daughter and I currently have Medicaid and SNAP food assistance.
My goals are to:
1) I need to rebuild my professional wardrobe. I have lost a lot of weight and consequently have been working on buying dress clothes for my new job. I am to wear solid black suits. I am a 44L with a 38â Waist and 34â Inseam. Size 14 Black oxford shoes. I will graciously accept presentable used items. I can buy 3 inexpensive nice black suits for $80 each. $50 for shoes.
2) I have to keep going to my doctors and maintain and improve my health. I have just been referred off for advanced level care. The travel expenses are going to be very high. I will have to stay overnight in a hotel somehow for some procedures.
3) I will have to afford to drive to work. I will have to keep myself insured and afford the initial cash outset for my first 2-3 weeks of work. I am traveling far to work and it will cost me about $125 a week in fuel. $60/ month in insurance.
4) I have to get my gas turned back on. I am looking at having to come up with an impossible $5000 to get it turned back on.
5) I just bought and installed an used electric water heater and dryer. I have no way as of yet to heat my house this winter.
6) I have to catch up on my $1500 electric bill. Hopefully I can do so or I will have to abandon my house and give up hope. I may have to move to a different state with different utility companies.
7) If I can accomplish the above goals in a short amount of time, I stand a very strong chance at getting my mortgage modified and staying in my home. I can then only have to worry about the basics of life in addition to my health and my daughterâs heart and special needs.
I am facing some tough challenges. I cannot do it on my own. I have nowhere to turn. I would appreciate any assistance or advice on where to go for assistance.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I appreciate your help.
Horrifying Homeless Situation

My request / beg: Please forward this to a Christian family farm / ranch owner who will take my labor in exchange for room and board. Any monetary donations are welcome...I'll use them for transportation to my new employer, and food to tide me over until I get there. I'm a serious, committed Christian, and would ideally love to be in a compassionate Christian environment for a few months. No drug, alcohol, emotional problems â ever. A very normal guy who looks like any clean normal guy from upper middle class suburbia...except for my tooth.
Is there anyone out there who will notice me, and have compassion? I can provide a solid reference from a homeless shelter. hopefulhomelesslionjudah@gmail.com
Please help me.

I am a 27 year old woman who has been hopelessly stuck in an unbearably abusive relationship for 6 years now.
I was only 21 when I met my husband. I was a college student struggling to make ends meet on my own. Ive never had much in the way of familial support, my mother is an abusive alcoholic and my father left when I was 8. Therefore I held a full time job the entire time I was in school. It was a big accomplishment for me, but it was rough.
When my husband came along he seemed like the perfect guy. He was wonderful, funny, sweet, generous, smart, kind, he was easy to fall in love with. After only a few months we moved in together and he proposed on our one year anniversary. I put school on hold and quit my job to help him get his business off the ground, thinking, at the time since his earning potential was so much higher than mine, that it just made sense for us as a couple and a team.
It didn't take long though for him to change. He quickly became distant, depressed, violent and moody for no apparent reason. He began drinking in excess and popping pills frequently, lashing out at me over nothing, lying, hiding things and cheating. My happily ever after was now a living hell! Every time Id get fed up enough to leave he'd cry, apologize very sincerely and beg me to stay, promising he would change and admitting how wrong it was for him to treat me that way. When that stopped working he started trying to bully and control me, threatening me, emotionally manipulating me and being physically aggressive & abusive with me. My husband is 7 years my elder so at first I suppose I was naive and easy to manipulate...Because I believed him and loved him I stayed.
But by year three I had, had it with the abuse and no longer believed him when he promised to change, I now knew better. Unfortunately I didnt have a parent or family member I could go to for help. Therefore my options were to either be homeless or to stay with him until I was financially able to be on my own. So I decided to make a plan to leave him. I had worked on and off in the Real Estate industry since my college years and so I went out and got an entry level job in that field and opened up my own bank account so that I could put money aside to pay off my large amount of debts (over $45,000 in student loans, car, credit card, etc) and move out on my own.
It was hard putting money aside without him noticing, I could only use commission and bonus checks that he didnt know about to put in savings. After a year I had only managed to save just over $6000, which barely made a dent in my student loan debts, much less allowing me to pay off the others.
So I began searching for a better job. After about a dozen interviews I finally landed an assistant manager position in a leasing office at a property owned by the city that paid better and was more in line with my capabilities. The position required me to work in a very dangerous part of town. I was dealing with drug dealers, murders, and other various felons on a daily basis, having my life threatened and irate residents screaming in my face wasnt an abnormal occurrence! But I was so determined to get away from my husband that I stuck it out. In just under a year I was promoted to Property Manager after the previous one had quit. I was elated! Finally I would be making enough to get my own place. I worked from 9am to 9pm most days since we were understaffed. I never went home until everything was taken care of. I gave 200%, going above and beyond to make my property the best it could be. I often received compliments from my superiors and the owner of the company on my job performance as well.
However before I was able to move out, things took a terrible turn. About four months into my new position, the company had hired a new person to be my superior. Unfortunately for me this person, now being in a new position of power, decided that they wanted to give all their friends from their previous company jobs. Since there were no openings available they decided to terminate current employees in order to make positions for their friends. I was one of those people! I remember the day so vividly in my head, being told they were letting me go. I just kept asking why? Id never once done anything wrong, I got complimented on my work performance frequently and even the residents who used to hate me, now loved me! My new boss and the companys owner agreed, Id done nothing wrong and offered me severance pay. But I didnt need severance pay, I needed a job! I was devastated. I had come SO close I could taste it, just to have it all ripped away like a cruel joke of fate. I nearly had a nervous breakdown. The thought of having to start over again with a new company from square one, the thought of staying with my husband another day was unbearable. I couldnt understand why this was happening to me, Id worked SO hard and after more than 2 years, gotten no closer to getting away from him.
I tried to find a replacement job with equal pay right away with no luck. By now the economy was very bad and good job offers were few and far between. Employers could afford to be picky, and people with three times my experience were applying for the same jobs. I decided to meet with an employment lawyer to see what options I had about my situation with my previous employer. He agreed my termination was wrongful and thought I had a solid case, to at the very least, get a larger severance. But he also informed me that while I had been wrongfully terminated, in the state of Ohio, employment is at will and therefore employers are allowed to fire you for no reason, as long as they dont discriminate against you! He preceeded with legal action confident that they would agree to work something more reasonalbe out, but things did not go as hoped.
So here I am. Six years into an abusive relationship that Ive been trying to escape for three! Ive now been unemployed for 8 months. Aside from the bad economy, the fact that I have taken legal against an employer and no reference from that employer due to filing a complaint against them, has made me practically un-hirable in my field. Ive tried interviewing for other jobs, but I either dont have the experience or they dont pay even half of what Id need to take care of myself. Ive thought about going back to school, but, again money becomes an issue. Ive done the math and I simply cant afford it. Ive spoken with divorce lawyers and since I have no children and have worked during my marriage, a divorce wont render anything in the way of financial support.
Ive exhausted every option I can think of and need help desperately!!! At this point my life is like walking a tight rope, trying not to do anything or say anything to set him off. Even so, his volitle moods and angry outburst are a daily occurrence. Im terrified and feel very hopeless. Ive had to spend almost everything I was able to save while employed, since being unemployed and am now down to almost nothing. I cant get welfare or go to an abused womens shelter because I have no children. I have nowhere to go and no one who can help me. I dont want to be homeless, but I am afraid if I stay Im going to end up dead.
Ive never in my life asked anyone for a handout. Ive always had to be very independent and self reliant. Im a good person, and am the first to help others when they need it. I am smart, loyal, talented, trustworthy, compassionate and moral. And I dont deserve to be in this situation. Ive never been one to complain about my problems. I always thought, where theres a will, theres a way, and that if I worked hard enough I would get where I wanted to be. But Ive fought tooth and nail trying to get out of this hell Ive been trapped in for years now to no avail.
If anyone out there is in a position to help me, I would be eternally grateful. Unlike most other people, going home to live with mom & dad until I get back on feet just isnt an option for me. I NEED MONEY and I need it NOW. I either need a steady, stable job paying at least $60000 annually or enough money to support myself while I finish my college degree. My current debts (student loans, car, credit card & medical bills) total just under $40000!!! I pay $1800 cumulatively toward these debts alone per month. Add in a VERY modest budget of $2500 for the cost of living (rent, utilities, phone, food, gas, toiletries and other necessities like car maintenance, insurance, dog care expenses, etc) and I absolutely cannot live on less than $60000 annually, and even that will be very tight, considering how much taxes get taken out.
Ideally I would love to work with animals, and given the time and money I would love to go into Veterinary Medicine one day. Im also very interested in holistic health, both for animals and people, specifically, holistic nutrition, herbal medicine and holistic treatment of illness, afflictions and diseases. I dont have any job experience in these fields, but I am very knowledgeable in them through my own experiences and research. And I have a love of animals that would be hard to surpass. Im a very eager and fast learner. I have tons of experience doing just about everything office related; Im good with computers and different types of software and have experience managing a small staff. I have great leadership skills, am very organized and give much attention to details. I am a night person by nature, so early morning jobs can be difficult for me if there is a hard start time. I work best in less rigid environments, with more flexible hours. Please dont get the wrong impression however! I am a very diligent and reliable worker, and will always do my job efficiently. I have so much to offer and could be doing so much more with my life if given the chance.
Any job opportunities or cash donations would be greatly appreciated! Please help me to finally break free of this misery Ive been living in. I could never thank you enough!
Sincerely,
Linda

Sincerely,
Jamie
Desperate to get Away from Abusive Husband!
Posted by jamie-needshelp on 2011-03-19 22:58:13
I need clothes
Posted by jagonga on 2011-02-17 14:58:04
I need money for clothes:
8 pairs Black socks
8 solid white boxer shorts - size 3XL
8 White round neck t shirts - size 2XL
Black dress pants (not pleated front)- waist size 60
Black shoes - size 14 wide
The easiest way would be to give the money to my paypal account. Another option would be to accept a prepaid gift card from:
http://www.casualmale.com/store/en_US/giftcard/choose_giftcard.jsp
I would have to have an order delivered to a UPS store in my area, and would need to pay $5 fee to UPS Store to pick up the package there. UPS store will not contact me if a package arrives. I need to know when it was shipped and call them each day until it arrives.

Beg your help to save my life
I am 53 years old businessman from tiny island of Sri Lanka. I started my business in 2007 after retiring from a leading solid rubber manufacturing company (Trelleborg Lanka PVT LTD Swedish own company) where I worked as the manager procurement for good 13 years. I am B.Sc graduate and diploma holder of rubber and plastic product manufacturing.
At the beginning my business, natural rubber processing industry was a success. I even renovated whole plant which was more than 50 years old and purchased two trucks to transport raw materials and finished goods to and from my facility. My trouble started in latter part of 2008 due to global economic down turn. Prices of our finished product, processed natural rubber ( Brown crepe ) declined rapidly in a space of few days thereby incurring heavy losses. Somehow I did managed to dragged my business till 31st march 2009 despite heavy losses. I provided 55 direct employment for very poor peasants in rubber growing area in Sri Lanka.
Due to heavy debt and pressure from my creditors I had to close down the factory and sold it out at very low price to settle my workers dues and some debt. I even had to handed over my vehicles to leasing company due to my failure to settle due installments in time
Ultimately I ended up with Rs. 8.5 million loss ( Approximately US$. 85,000) . Now I lost whole my earning for past years. Some of my creditors filed court cases against me. Some are putting pressure on me to settle their dues. They even posing death threats . I have been mentally and physically abused by my creditors everyday since closer of my plant. Police at the complain of my creditors may arrest me for default. Now I am in dilemma. I need police protection for safety of my life from death threats. At the same time police want me to settle my creditors debt as some cheque issued to creditors were dishonored.
I do not have any saving except my provident fund. After toiling hard for last 30 years, I earned around 3.5 million rupees ( approximately US$. 35,000) . At maturity, when I turn 55 it will be Rs. 4 million. I will get around Rs. 1.5 million as inheritance after selling of my parent properties (House where I live now. My share is 1/6 of the total value). Those wealth can be accessible only after another two years.
As I do not have fixed income nowadays, I am unable to overcome my difficulties without help of charity or donation. Legal expenses and my medical expenses aggravate my misery. My life now totally depend on sympathy of my age old friends. One provide shelter and the others provide meals. Now I am like a beggar although do not beg on the roadside.
I wrote several letter to relevant government organizations for compensation or bailout package, but nobody looked at it as government in short of money for that kind of compensations. I wrote to parliamentary ombudsman as well. All were in vein. Local red cross society replied to my request saying that they do not have mandate to give financial help to individual although my case is worthwhile to be considered.
Although I have taken all the insurance covers needed for our industry, like workmen compensation, fire. Flood, storm and tempest , burglary, personal accident, consequence lost cover could not be obtained due to nature of our industry. I put forward claim for US$. 75,000 but was not entertained due to nature of our industry.
I am looking for a help to settle my debt and restart a business. I can offer my EPF and inheritance as security. But those would be matured only after 2 years. House can be sold out only after flood situation due to unplanned development is permanently arrested by local government in our area. Otherwise a buyer can not be found. As such if anybody feel sorry for me and willing to help me , please contact me on my following e-mails in order to get my other details you need

Attorney Fees - Falsely Accused
Posted by lewm831 on 2011-01-16 06:58:58
The funny thing is ..if this were all true, why didnt she contact the police; Tell someone her friends, family, at least mom and dad? It was a domestic dispute at her home between her and her mother about my vehicle that lead the police to be called. Then the story came to life! Why didnt I call the police myself?? I believe that I was drugged.
My family (5 children), reputation and life all hang in the balance. I am in desperate need of a GREAT criminal defense attorney which I have found. The problem is .my ex-wife (after being married for 23 years) took my 401Ks, the checking and savings account and left me with credit card debt, child support etc. The attorney I have found has estimated a total of 60K for the entire case with a 25K retainer!
I will work off the money, repay it .whatever it takes. I am a former Air Force man with a college education that could be a solid performer in any organization in any capacity.
I just want my life back and I am not financially in a position to defend myself. HELP me please!
I'm Drowning, please help!

I'm a mother of 2 little boys, and wife to a wonderful man. This last year was our worst financially. I took a new job/career earlier in the year with great promise. Unfortunately, I was basically lied to & it was not what it was supposed to be at all. I started searching for another job. After 5 months of no paycheck from me, I finally started a new job a few weeks ago. Woo hoo!!! However, my husband's salary alone is below the federal poverty level and we ended up on food stamps. That was my lowest day...waiting in line for our food stamps :( I held my head high, and took the help. In desperation while I was off work, I made some very poor financial decisions and right now am completely drowning in debt. It wouldn't take much to get us out, but the monthly payments are killing me and I can't sleep. Please help if you feel so inclined. It'd sure go a long way. I have a cheritable heart, and desire to help people. Once we are back on solid ground, I vow to pay it forward and help someone else struggling. Thank you for reading, this was the "short of the long"
