Please Help Keep The American Dream
Posted by TexasPike on 2012-03-25 16:58:43
Recently, I quit my job and started up my own eBay business. It had been a dream all my life, to own my own business. I started just a few months ago, and everything was going flawless. I have a great supplier, great products, and great customer service, etc. While we were new on eBay, they had set limits on how much we could sell and Paypal put 21-day holds on all our funds, till the customers received their items. It was just recently, that we turned into eBay Powersellers and received the status of "Top Rated Sellers".
Everything was going just perfect, up until recently. My mother-in-law needs a LOT of teeth work done. So, I decided I would list my cherished Jimi Hendrix poster online, to raise funds for her teeth work, because my business was new and not to the point of affording $5000 teeth work. I put it up for a 10-day auction and everything was going just fine. About halfway thru my auction, it was generating bids and lots of interest!
Then, the bottom fell out..... A gentleman from California was interested in our poster, and stated that he would like to purchase it. He said if we took the listing down, he would send us $3500. We agreed and took it down. He paid us within 10 minutes! We thought we had hit the jackpot. Not only was my business taking off, now I could afford my mother-in-laws teeth work! The very next day, I put his poster in the mail and we went to pay the down payment at the dentist and a few other bills off. Everything was looking good. Later that night, I received an email from Paypal, that the buyer had put a claim in! He stated that it was not as described, even though he had not even received it yet! It was still in route, thru the postal service. He had buyers remorse and Paypal froze my funds up.
No big deal, I am an eBay Powerseller, I should be able to make the funds really fast, right? No. When a customer buys something from us, we use their money they just paid us, to purchase their part and have it shipped to them. If my Paypal account is frozen and in the red for $3000, I am not able to sell anything or ship anything off!
Now, Paypal has paid the customer back and I am just sitting here trying to figure out what to do next. My dream I had started and finally got off the ground, is now ruined. I worked 20 hour days to get this off the ground, and now feel like a failure. I cannot do anything until the money is paid back. I have no way of doing anything.
I quit my job to do this and we are now struggling. It actually makes me sick, knowing I tried so hard to get to the Powerseller level, to have it all ruined because a customer wanted his money back on an item I had a "No Refund Policy" on. Paypal ruled in his favor without even talking to me.
My Paypal balance is a -$2741.79. I really need help getting it back to ZERO. Please consider a donation for a guy that is really trying to do something with his life. I am a 40 year old male and have been a failure all my life and now I have something that is working, and just when my family started noticing, my hopes were all dashed again. Failure surrounds me.
I could really use any help you can give at this time. I am a "Pay It Forward" type of guy myself. If I am helped out of this mess, I will Pay It Forward in the near future, to a charity in the same amount.
Thanks for your time,
Cody

20 years old, no family to turn to, almost $1,000 in debt, and lease expiring in two weeks.
Posted by RobbieDFW on 2012-03-02 03:58:04
I'm 20 years old, working as an operator at a machine shop just a few miles from my current apartment.
About a month ago, the president of our company announced that they were going to be moving the shop in a few months. He did not, however, mention that this would cause a lot of us to lose hours due to a lack of received work orders for our CURRENT location.
I already had a couple of outstanding loans from before things went south at work. Just a couple of hundred dollars for electricity or rent that I figured I could pay back quickly taking the shops pay rate into account. However, now that I've been going without more than 10 hours of work a week for almost three weeks paying my loans back is becoming more of a game of trying to scrape together my minimum payment amount while also somehow managing rent, bills, and food money. I've gotten to the point where I'm eating about a meal a day and spending as little time in my apartment as possible to cut back on water and electricity expenses.
The real kicker of this whole situation is that my lease will be expiring 3/19/2012, and I need to manage to get a new apartment before then. With the two outstanding loans, moving expenses, leasing deposits and application fees...well, it's starting to look like I might be living under a bridge next month...
Most people my age would turn to there parents for help, but I don't really have any such luck. Both of my parents just kind of jumped ship as soon as I graduated High School. Last I heard from mom she was using meth, and Dad isn't faring much better...
Please, help me avoid homelessness and give what you can so I can manage a standard, stable adult life.

I had to take my son out of school to bring down my personal expenses as well. I enrolled him in a state side school in Tucson Az. Now this school is great but they won't ship his school supplies to me and therefore i have to have them reshipped here to our location.
I really don't want cash donations but will take them if that is all I can receive. I would prefer someone who has a dhl, fedex, or ups account just assume the cost of shipping on their account and it be over and done with and have them shipped. If the only means by which i can do this is to receive several smaller donations, then great this would be a great help too. I am guessing the cost of this is probably about $200.00 u.s. dollars to get his supplies shipped to me. We just do not have any extra money right now. Thank you for your time and any help would be appreciated.

I would have to take the job out west, go there, save enough money to move them after I found a house and gotten settled in⦠Well, all was well for the first month, I just about had enough to finally bring my family with me and live comfortably for the amount of time it would take for my fiancé to find work herself. Then the worst trial I have ever faced hit me⦠My wonderful management level job outsourced to India, leaving me with a meager severance (enough to cover my bills and help my Fiancé) So now Iâm stuck in Washington paying for two rents, a car (I take the public transportations), and all the overflow finances my fiancé cannot cover on her smaller salary. I began to wonder how it could not get any worse, and I was shown how much worse it really could get. My Fiancé was stricken with a terrible Crohnâs flare that put her out of work and in the hospital for two months⦠They had to give up the house, move in with my parents, and all the while, I am 3000 miles away picking up lousy manual and clerical work to make ends meet as best I can.
Iâve run over my finances over and over again. Now Iâm not homeless, nor are my fiancé and son, but I cannot get them here without some extra help. After looking over all I owe and all that I would need to make life livable for them is just around $10,000. Roughly $2000 to ship the rest of our belongings out here to the home Iâm currently renting, more or less $4000 to keep the medical bills from going to collections, $1245 to cover the cost of breaking our lease(The house my fiancé was living in) $1200 to make the car payment current(Insurance included), and $1500 to give us some safety room for her recovery until she is able to work again. I am not looking for large amounts of money from people; I just would like to get the sympathy of as many people as I can so that I can see them again⦠With your help to get me to my goal I can finally pick up the pieces and make my family whole againâ¦

Need a life preserver! I am drowning

What really stunk, is I thought I had friends and family that would be there for me in my time of need, but when I needed help for the first time in my life, everyone disappeared.
I spent my whole life helping and doing for others. I was the person everyone depended on. I was the person everone could rely on. I was always the first person to help a fellow man. I would give anyone my last dollar. I worked for Hospice, Homecare, and Mortuary Transport... I did the jobs no one wanted to do. I took in about everyone in my family at one time or another (mom, brother, cousin, and some friends too). I took care of them like they were my children. Even though I was on a very limited income, I took in my grandpa and cared for him 24 hours a day for 4 years to keep him out of a nursing home. I barely made over minimum wage, and his children made ALOT of money, yet I am the only one who stepped up to the plate. I took in a coworker 20 years older than me and nursed him back to health. I always would help a strnger in need, once I found a little old lady in the Publix bathroom that had pooped her pants and had it all over the walls and herself. Everyone ignored her, but I decided to jump in and help clean her up and get her to her car so not to get embarrassed. My best friend is 40 years old with terminal cancer and 7 kids and a downs syndrome brother in law she cares for. Sadly enough, she is the only one who has been here for me emotionally. I have been trying to help her the best I could until recently things have got so bad for me, I can not be there for her. I cant help any one if I can't help myself. I could tell you too many stories, but there is not enough space here to fit them all. The point is, I had never asked for help. I was always self sufficient, I always fended for myself. I always said, I would never ask for help unless it was absolutely dire, and I lived comfortably knowing that with all I had done for others, that if I ever needed for anything, they would flock to my side.
Well, when my separation happened, and now that everything has gone downhill, not one person has stepped up to the plate friends nor family. I went without heat for my children and newborn baby this last year. There have been days that I had no food for them. They have had to go without many necessities. I have been in constant fear of loosing electric, water, or a place to live. I have a broken down vehicle. I have done my best to keep things afloat, but now I feel like I am on a sinking ship and no one wants to throw me a life preserver, even though I am the one who handed them out! I need only to get back on dry land so I can move forward and be self sufficient again. What I need is to catch up on rent and utilities, fix my vehicle, tag and register my vehicle. These are my necessities to keep surviving. Once I get out of this hole, I know I can keep myself afloat. I am also worried about Christmas, but I am sure keeping a roof above our heads is the most important thing, and I believe my children know this. Feel free to contact me at jclark398@cfl.rr.com with any questions or further info. Thank you.
