Disabled vet needs help with home

Posted by emr428 on 2012-05-23 10:58:48

My husband is a disabled, retired Army veteran. About 10 years ago he purchased a camp in Maine that he planned to fix up and move into for his retirement. Unfortunately he has suffered flood damage twice, once he had flood insurance, or thought he did, but the insurance company refused to pay saying they hadn't processed the payment on the day he opened the policy and the flooding occured over the weekend so he was not covered! The second flooding FEMA came in and didn't bother going under the house so they only gave him $800! Both times the flooding destroyed all the insulation and a great deal of work. He now has to jack up the house, have a foundation put in, then level everything in the house. He cannot live there. He applied for an equity loan from the bank as the property is valued at $139K and there is no mortgage. But we have moved to Nevada as I was offered a job here that paid better than back east. We want nothing more than to get this house fixed up in Maine so we can either sell it or possibly retire there. Right now if someone was willing to give an equity loan of $40,000, we would take that instead of begging. Please consider helping us before this Maine house gets flooded again and we lose everything there. If each person who reads this can only give $1, it wouldn't take long to reach our goal and then we could give back in the future!

Thank you in advance

Please help my family with a one-time donation towards my family's last-ditch effort to get back on our feet.

I lost my job 4 years ago and we barely live off my military retirement.

We don't want to file bankruptcy (and frankly, we can't afford $1,500 to do it).

We're struggling but with your help we can make it.

Thank you so much for whatever you can give.

A Twist in the Road, One Step Toward Hopelessness

Quiet giving means to help others without fanfare, without recognition. I've done this all my life. From buying school clothes for my childrens' friends, paying for glasses for the cashier at our local store, or paying an elderly stranger's grocery bill...God tells us to help each other, no matter how small. Now the shoe is on the other foot. I am in need. I am scared and now understand how it is to wake up every morning with fear and anxiety hanging over my head. I am a teacher who has been a victim of budget cuts 5 times in my career. It has taken me up to two years to find another full-time job each time it happened. I lived off of early withdrawals from my teaching retirement fund while I worked part-time jobs during those times. It is all gone now. I am single mother with two children, no alimony or child support. We have always struggled, but managed to make do with what we had. It wasn't easy, but we were able to keep our home for 16 years now. I have experienced a debilitating illness over the past year and will not be able to return to teaching. I never thought while I sat in college studying for my career, that I would one day be virtually penniless with no place to turn to. I have sold all valuables and now have nothing left to pay the bills or keep our home. I know God hears me, but perhaps the journey is one of empathy for others and of understanding true suffering. I am thankful for the journey, and the lesson is difficult. I have failed my children and myself. I was willing to accept my fate, until a friend told me about this website. If you find it in your heart to help me and my family, I assure you we will pay a portion back to others here in WV who are suffering as well. One day, when I am back on my feet, I would like to be a philanthropist, creating a non-profit organization using quiet giving. Thank you for listening, sometimes it helps just to get it out. Thank you also for your generosity and understanding. Even if you choose not to help my partiuclar family, please be aware of other hard-working families in your own community who may need your help too. Have a blessed day, Mrs. Birdlegs Please help, my family matters too.

medical bills have wiped out my $, dog and i will soon be homeless

Posted by mugwump64 on 2012-05-14 12:58:45

in a couple of weeks i will be homeless. after becoming unemployed two years ago i was living off money which i had from cashing in my retirement account. after taking a couple of months for leisure ( i hadn't had an actual vacation, aside from a long weekend here or there, for the past 12 years) i was in the beginning phase of starting a small business. then i had a heart attack. i had surgery to place a stent in one of my arteries. it seems that i was born with a twisted artery and had been living with it all my life suffering no ill effects. according to my doctor artery walls are fairly thin and pliable when one is young, but as a person ages the walls thicken and become less pliant. when you combine these two factors with the twist of the artery, the result is a cutoff of the flow of blood to the heart. my doctor said that had i waited another day to come into the hospital, i would have died. while the surgery left me weak, it was the anti-rejection medication that i was on which was the problem. it left me so tired and weak, that after a walk to and from the local bodega just two blocks from my apartment , after i walked in the door i had to lay the bags down and sit and rest for a half hour or more, before i could put groceries away or even thinking about standing up and preparing food. quite a change from when i was biking 5 miles a day/ five days a week and lifting weights several times a week. my bank account was swiftly drained due to the cost of the hospital stay/surgery, and to the cost of medications ($130/month).
once i was off the anti-rejection meds and feeling well enough to work, i began searching for a job seeing as my hope of starting a business drained away with the money in my bank account. but unfortunately, with the economy the way it is, i have been unsuccessful in my search. i am now virtually penniless and am being evicted from my apartment. i am have sold off what few possessions i have in order to have some cash to buy the things i need for living on the streets, but the accumulated amount came to less than $100.

monetary donations via paypal are more than welcome,
i have also created a wish list at amazon.com for certain things that will be very helpful for me to have while i am homeless, but which i can not in anyway afford.

http://amzn.com/w/298Q89SP8GLCZ

i have left comments next to each item to explain why i feel the need for it. e-giftcards from amazon would also be helpful.

Need Back Surgery

Posted by WalkTall615 on 2012-05-06 20:58:41

I am a 39-year-old woman living in the Nashville area who has been off of work without pay for the last month. Though I am employed full-time, I have run out of paid time off and am currently on medical leave until I can have back surgery. The surgery itself is not complicated, but it would entail 3 days of a hospital stay, 2 weeks of physical therapy to assist in regaining my mobility, and 4-5 more weeks off before I can return to work. This surgery, though necessary, was unanticipated and I do not have money saved to sustain myself for another 2 months off. I do not have children, so I am ineligible for cash assistance through local government. I do not have short-term disability through my employer. I am ineligible for short-term disability through the government because my condition does not require that I am off work for 12 months, nor will it result in my death. I am also not being allowed to withdraw from my retirement for hardship reasons because, according to them, I am -only- contributing the mandatory amount. I also do not have -perfect credit- so I am unable to go out and obtain a loan for what I need. I have tried so many avenues and have hit dead ends each time. My goal is to raise $2500 to cover rent and expenses for up to three months: 2 months of actual recovery time and an additional months worth for incidentals and to give me time to return to work and have regular paychecks come in. Please help so that I can regain my ability to walk without pain and return to work. Thank you.

Bad Luck Year

Posted by WALKENDEN on 2012-05-04 14:58:43

I have had a very bad time this year. In January I slipped on the ice and broke my shoulder, resulting in about $17,000 in medical bills. On St. Valentines day my apartment caught fire and I lost almost all my personal possessions. I was lucky that a few items were in my truck. Today I am working for Waste Management Inc. at just over minimum wage and trying to pay off my medical and other debts. I sleep on an air mattress and get much of my food and clothing from charitable organizations. My weekly paycheck will only cover rent and electricity after the the other bills. I know I will live through this but,at 57 years old I probably will never pay off all I owe, or even make it to retirement age.

Would love help getting to 2012 Olympic games to watch my son

Posted by judomom on 2012-05-03 19:58:40

I wouldn’t normally do this but I so want to go see me son compete in the 2012 London Olympics in the sport of Judo. My son will be given tickets to his event for us watch him compete. But neither his sister, my mother nor I have the money for airfare and hotel. I live on a very small pension and SSDI, which isn’t very much. I live with my mom helping here out since my dad passed away last year and she as well does not have much money either. I have no credit cards and had to file bankruptcy due to the lack of unable to work because of me disabilities and the state finally put me on SSDI and that isn’t that much. My son has been doing judo since he was 7yr old. When he took his 1st Junior National Championship at the age of 8 in Hilo, he came off the plane and told me we was going to go to the Olympic. He never lost that goal. He is now going for the 2nd time around. . Back in 2004 due to layoff and my job being outsourced I ended taking a earlier retirement. My son headed off to college with a partial scholarship in judo. I helped support him in rent, phones, car, insurance, as well as airfare to travel to many international tournaments to help him qualify for a spot on the 2008 Olympic team. I even went back to work using almost all of my funds including my saving and 401k’etc just to get him to the level that he needed to be at and because of that I was unable to go to China in 2008 when he went to his 1st Olympic games because I spent it all getting him there. Then in 2009 I got laid off because the job was being outsource but when I tired finding work I was unable to and the state finally tested me and told me because of my disability that I could no longer work and then put me on SSDI. So if your willing to help that would be a blessing but if you not I understand.

Losing farm

Posted by reagolen on 2012-04-22 09:58:31

I have used all of my retirement funds, I have no family to help us. We need money to buyout the lease/land contract to save this farm. We have until June and then we will loose everything.

Since living here we have boarded senior/retired/special needs horses to give them a place to live out their lives with the special care they deserve.

We also kennel dogs and have helped dogs be rehabbed for rescues, I also have boarded dogs for people who have lost their homes till they could find a place to live.

I have a fourteen year old daughter and I am a single mother, this is my dream, to help animals and people and to live on a farm. I need help, I know no one in the position to help us.

My daughter and I have sacrificed everything to make this place work, we've even gone without food at times.

If we loose this place we have nowhere to go and nowhere to take our animals. If we were able to buy it because of the circumstances our monthly payment would be a lot less and we could be able to maintain the farm and keep helping people and animals.

We have horses here now that would not survive anywhere else, it's breaking my heart. If you can help God bless you.
Hi,

I am an unemployeed teacher, and have been for several years, initially to raise my young sons; now, there just are not any openings being I live in such a small town. This, of course, was good for the boys, but hard financailly. Then, about a year ago, my husband lost his job, which has totally devasted us. Like I said we live in a small town, out in the middle of nowhere, and little to no resources to help. My husband had no choice but to withdraw his retirement, which we have already exhausted. This is a feeling that cannot be described, knowing that there is nothing left. My husband has been a hard working man all his life, and still is at 58. He does do whatever job he can take in his trade for well below the going rate, but they don't pay the bills. As a matter of fact, I am extremely worried about my husband, because he feels so bad about our situation.

We would love to move to a place we can find work, but we can't afford the move. Since I have not been working, we could not save, so we only have money on hand, which now is only unemployment. We don't even qualify for foodstamps, or any state help, including medical! This is because the unemployment is 10.00 over the allowment, and the unemployment only covers the rent!
I'm not so concerned about my husband and I; it's my boys who are 11 and 12. They are good boys, who make good grades and are active in sports. This is a challenge to keep up the sports,as there are fees, and at least one usually goes on to All-stars, which costs more. I really don't want to deny them, if at all possible, but, I just don't know how to juggle it all....

We don't have any family to speak of, so this is why I am making this plea to anyone out there that may find it in their heart to help...

Thank you for taking the time to read my plea, and God bless you whether you can help or not.

Swallowing my pride and asking for help.

Hello my name is Mel and I am in emergency need of financial assistance as I left my job to finish my college degree last year. All was going well as I am 27 years old and I have my own place, car, and am very independent. My boyfriend was living with me for free and he drained my funds including my 401K retirement account that it took me seven years to build. The intention was he was going to pay me back and find a job as he was fired last July. Unfortunately, he never even tried. I spent all of my money around Christmas time spoiling his three children in which I was not allowed to be a part of their lives. He left me two months ago for their mother who is abusive and I have never been in such a bad financial situation in my life. I have managed to sell some of my belongings to cover last months rent. I am now actively looking for full time work and may have to not finish my Bachelor's degree in Sociology and I only have one semester left at the University. It is my goal to stand strong on my own two feet and I will do everything in my power to come back up from this and not let it bring me down. Any and all donations will help me until I can find employment as the economy is so bad I cannot find a decent job in my trade of Accounting/Office Management in my area. The good thing is once you hit the ground there is only once place to go from there and that is back up. I have no where else to turn or I would not be posting this on here. I hope that you can help someone today after reading this because there truly are genuine people out there in the world they are not all scammers. I happen to be one of the realest people, that is how I got in this sticky situation. God Bless you all.

College Senior in Need of your Help!

Please help me save my condo for my 2 year old

Posted by BPBWDJ888 on 2012-03-31 02:58:02

Anyone with money in the world, please help me keep my condo for my 2 year old who is just blossoming and learning to love life. If I can't pay my mortgage Pand we lose our home, I don't know what I will do with him. I love him so much. I lost my job and have been sick so I am having difficulties getting moving again. I spent all my retirement fund and 401K from my last job so I am broke. I have 70 dollars to my name. I can't pay for diapers much less mortgage and bills. Please help me if you feel you can, because I may just be an angel in disguise, and if you help me the payoff would be good for you too. I never thought I would be in this position, as I always had a good job and pay until recently. I can't even believe I am writing here. If you are rich and read these, please help my child for me as I cannot right now. I promise you will be blessed by me many times over. Please God of heart or mind help me.

Need Help in Paying Rent

Hello,
My name is Denise, and I lost my job due to being misinformed by the State Pension Plan, that I was eligible for retirement as of Oct. 1st, 2011. After leaving my job of 30 years, an audit was done, and it was determined that I didn't actually have enough serviced credit hours to retire. But by the time I found out, my job was already filled.
The job market is tough, and after completing at least 95 + applications on line, I recently received an interview two days ago, and think I have the job. I also have a tenant renting one of the rooms in the household, along with my sons income which should cover the months ahead. But I need help for the back rent, or I will be evicted on the 28th of this month.
Please help if you can.

Sincerely,
Denise
