Desperately needing a hand up

Posted by peacenluv on 2012-03-08 22:58:22

Greetings...
I've never done this before(begging for help) but I'm desperate and at my wits end financially. I'm really struggling right now trying to catch up on overdue bills and buying food and basic necessities. The past few months have been really difficult, due to my father passing away..I spent alot of money on parking at the hospital as well as gas driving to and from to visit him. As well as Christmas being a HUGE financial burden...if anyone out there can help me out, I'd be forever grateful and most definitely pay it forward when I'm financially able to. I'm a single parent of four kids, ranging in age from 6 to 16 and unfortunately their father can't help as he's on a disability pension. I can prove to whoever helps me that I'm on social assistance if need be. Thanks

falling apart

Posted by pandypop on 2012-02-06 13:58:55

Hi people

I wont make this ultra long or at least I will try not to ok :)

My name is Christine,I am Scottish, mother of 4 really lovely kids ranging from 2 years to 14 years.

I have been with their father since I was young (16), I have suffered from depression for a long time and never sought help till about 3 years ago.

My partner worked while I stayed at home and looked after the kids, I tried :)

2 years ago my partner was made redundant, since then he's had some work but its been poorly paid and only short term, we have had to rely on the government for help and let me tell you its been no where near enough!
we own our own home (mortgage) and they wont pay it all while he's jobless and we dont get enough money to cover the rest, we have accrued debt from the mortgage and from most of our other bills.
We have been close to eviction on more than 2 occasions, we borrowed the money from his mum, really great of her, she decided she didn't want re-paid which was awesome, but we only just covered that one event, we are still behind and struggling like crazy.
We are all stuck together in this now cramped house as when we initially bought it, we only had 2 kids!
we dont get out, we dont take vacations or holidays, we dont drink nor smoke and though we'd like one, we dont have a car (we cant even drive).

I am stressed, he's stressed, itsnot a nice atmosphere at home like every single day, the kids argue (older kids), mostly over space and we all argue and shout and get upset.

My oartner has been for many job interviews and so far no success, we are not scroungers, he's worked all his adult life and he hates not working and being stuck with me 24/7.

There are some things that have happened, things that I dont want to mention, personal stuff, breaks my heart.........we just need a break, I have been on the verge of a meltdown, surely it cant just continue?

I anyone is in a position to help not just me but my whole family, then please.....it would be the best thing ever!!!

this is probably the most sincere thing I ever wrote right there.

Kind and warm regards Christine

Please HELP my family...

Posted by crkagan1980 on 2011-10-21 18:58:27

Short history, my husband and I have 5 children, ranging from 3 year old twins to 12 years of age, all boys. We have been struggling as victims of the economy much like many other people across the world. We are both full-time students, with my husband working towards his B.A. in Social Science, and I am working towards my Masters in Early Childhood Education with a specialization in Special Education. My husband, also works full-time for the state in which we live and has for 24 years serving children and adults with developmental disabilities and mental illnesses. This state unfortunately thinks that state employees are over paid, and should carry the entire budget shortfall, so they have made drastic cuts to their pay, their hours mandating 8 hours of furlough every month, and as off July the furlough was reduced to only 6 a year versus 12, but also took away pay already receiving by 4%. They have also taken away longevity pay, pay raises, and have raised insurance costs... our monthly insurance deduction went from $250.00 a month to $450.00, and this pushes us to our breaking point. We have out-standing debt from school, and normal day to day living expenses for a family of 7 are overwhelming. We have recently applied for welfare for food stamps only, and have been told that we make to much money, but we are maxing out dollar loan companies just to put groceries on the table. I know that I am just another product of such an economy, but I would just implore anyone who is able to contribute to my family. I don't know where else to turn, and trust me, I wouldn't be asking if I didn't need to.

Losing home Please help

Posted by AbbysDaddy on 2011-09-02 05:58:08

I wouldn't be here if it wasn't my last resort. Life has thrown me a curve ball I couldn't catch. My daughter and I have been living with my Grandmother since early 2010 when my wife abandoned us after being diagnosed with post par-tum depression and turning to a life of drugs a few months after giving birth to our beautiful Daughter. I wasn't able to pay the rent, utilities and daycare expenses on my own so my Grandmother being the loving woman that she was agreed to put a roof over our heads while I started attending a technical school to further my education and career so that one day soon I could get a better job and be able to afford things on my own. A few months into my schooling my Grandmother fell ill. She started having problems doing daily tasks and eventually was forced to retire early. Which left her with a small 401k and a feeble social security fixed monthly income. She no longer had the money to take care of us and the tables turned on us it was I that now had to care of her. In late 2010 she was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and needed an oxygen concentrator to breathe properly. No longer able to do regular daily tasks we all take for granted. I had to put school on hold to stay home to care for her and my Daughter. My Grandmother wasn't to keen on going to a nursing home nor was I willing to put her in one when I was in a position to help her as she had done for me, we also could no longer afford daycare for my Daughter. A few months went by and we seemed to be getting along fine but, the doctors bills were piling up and we were forced to choose between the mortgage and continuing doctor care for my Grandmother. As the months passed my Grandmother continued to get weaker no matter how hard she tried to stay active by playing with or reading to her great granddaughter. In the beginning of March she could no longer get out of bed on her own. I had to carry her to and from the bathroom, cook and feed her all of her meals and generally keep her as comfortable and happy as she could be. At that time we were 4 months behind on the mortgage and struggling to keep the electricity that her life depended on, on. On June 8 2011 my grandmother passed away. She didn't have a large life insurance policy which only covered her burial and some of the doctors bills. She tried to leave me her house in her will but, probate court is trying to take it away from us because the house is going to be in foreclosure soon, we are now about to be 10 months behind, and her other reaming debt (doctors, credit cards...). So I am here today to ask for various kinds of help ranging from advice to money. I am not asking you to pay the entire debt and the house off but, for maybe enough to put my daughter back into daycare so I can find a job and hopefully save my house. In the almost 3 months since my grandmothers passing I have tried numerous ways of getting my daughter into daycare so I could find a job and be able to support my daughter and myself and possibly save the home my grandmother so graciously left to us but, to no avail.I am begging you for support. I need advise as to the best course of action to appeal to the probate court and save our home. I need the money to pay for daycare for my daughter which averages $100 a week. To pay off my grandmothers remaining debt which is close to $5,000. Pay for representation in probate court to appeal our case and to get caught up or pay off the house, we are now behind 6,751.16 on a total left of 33,514.81, and to get current on the utility bills which I have miraculously managed to keep on for the last 3 months by selling all of my worldly possessions. I am in a desperate situation and I'm begging for help. Like I said I don't expect to receive enough money to pay all of the debt but asking for enough to get my daughter back into daycare so I can try to save us. I hope you can find it in your hearts to help in whatever way possible. It would be greatly appreciated by my daughter and myself in this great time of need. I beg you for your prayers and generosity and Thank you for the time you took to read my story, Just writing it helped alleviate a little bit of stress. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts All of you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Any advise is greatly appreciated and can be sent to zenkiawdsm@gmail.com. Thank you
-Jeremy and Abigail

Money for Business start-up

Posted by monkey46 on 2011-08-27 00:58:20

I am writing this letter to you in the hopes I can appeal to your compassion.I have been working in a job for two years now making minimum wage, where I bring home $1000 or less for a family of four. I am not writing this letter asking for a handout, but a hand up. I know that entrepreneurs sometimes give to charity, again I am not asking for charity but proposing a charitable donation to help me form my own business.

I had worked for a Criminal Defense Investigation firm here in Albany, Or. for four years between 1999 and 2003 and was making $3000 per month plus expenses. I was laid off due to Government cutbacks in indigent defense and was off work for three years taking care of my autistic son while my wife worked. I have since returned to work and she is now the stay at home provider for our son. At the beginning of this year I reacquired my Private Investigators license at the hope that my old boss would consider hiring me back, which he did not because he only hires people in the preferred workers program.

My research shows that there are only three investigators in the area and that two of them are ready for retirement. um, (my old boss) does not perform indigent defense anymore and would pass any work to me. As of now I work partial full time during the day to where I could not perform investigations without losing time off for work, (which I cannot afford) and the time I do get off in the afternoon is too late to start investigations.
I know that with my experience I could make this a growing business and could make enough money to keep it running and take care of my family.
I have already spoken to several of the Attorneys that I had worked for in the past and have been told that they would definitely engage my services if I could provide services at regular hours.

I would like to come up with ideally $50, 000 which would cover the cost of me leaving my job for a year and leave me with $38,000 to purchase most of the basic equipment I would need for start up. If I could come up with $12,000 that would give me the capital to keep my household expenses covered for 6 months to a year, which would give me the time to get established in the business.

I know from experience that I could make this work, and that it would generate revenue of approximately $100,000 to $150,000 per year. Myold boss is making over $450,000 per year now and only performs surveillance.

My Background in this field is roughly 15 years experience, I was a Reserve Police Officer for three years through 1995-98, I resigned when I was ordered to file a report which was false and would have cleared an Officer of a wrongdoing. I refused, so I was harassed and passed over for full time employment for having integrity.
I have four years as a Criminal Defense Investigator and in those four years conducted over 250 cases with a 95% success rate. The people I kept out of jail or prison were innocent and wrongly accused by the Police. My boss stated that I had a natural instinct for investigations and I was given cases ranging from Assault to aggravated murder. I also have two years surveillance working inside a casino, where during my employment I was responsible for over 200 drug related arrests and even received a letter of commendation from the Polk County Sheriffs Office.

I have looked into every option I can think of to try and start this business on my own, Grants, Small Business Loans and Personal Loans (which you need good credit for both) and have come up with nothing.
My last option is to write to entrepreneurs like yourself and try to convince you to help in my plight.
The State of Oregon now pays $35-$45 per hr. for indigent defense, and the Federal Government pays $65 per hr. I know from experience I can work 4 to 5 cases per week as a single investigator, paying my wage of $15 per hour plus expenses. Leaving $20 to $50 going into the business every hour worked. That would give me a $600 per week salary and put $800 to $2000 per week into a business account. Yearly business income could be well over $100, 000 at the higher range of pay.
This business would greatly improve the community in which I live, giving fair and honest investigations to those accused of crimes unjustly and providing jobs for my son and others as the business grows.

I hope I have appealed to your charitable and business nature and let me thank you in advance for any assistance you may give, be it monetary or information.

Free From Credit Cards

Posted by JustALittleHelp on 2011-08-25 18:58:00

I am looking to becoming free from the burden of Credit Cards. I was doing well paying them until I became disabled. Now all I can pay is the monthly amount which is doing nothing for the principal since I have high interest rates. Just to be free of this debt, I will be able to make ends meet again. Those cards have long been cut up after I started getting disability. There is a total of $5000 between 3 cards and interest rates ranging from 19%-25%. My disability check is 58% LESS than my pay was when I was working. Anything donated will be given to credit card companies immediately to pay down on these cards starting with the highest interest first. Thanking you in advance.

Give me a dollar!

Posted by steveinthailand on 2011-04-26 21:58:41

I work for a volunteer organization that works in various communities around the world, with projects ranging from repairing choral reefs to rescuing abused animals to teaching children in 3rd World countries. We provide disaster relief, community-based infrastructure, and sustainability in places where poverty and need abound. This work is extremely rewarding--spiritually. However it pays nearly nothing, and in a year's time I've actually lost more money than I've made. At present I am stationed in a poor country town in southern Thailand, far from tourists and the thrumming world economy. Hence, I don't need a lot to get by.

If you donate just one dollar to me, it will pay for 4 days' worth of meals. 10 dollars will pay for a new mattress (the one I sleep on has a giant hole in it). You can still buy your Starbucks. All I'm asking for is your pocket change. Thanks for reading.

Rental Help

Posted by mythreeson on 2011-04-06 08:58:06

Hi, I am writing because I am looking for rental assistance. In March of 2011 I found out that I was not getting my taxes back due to an error of the department of education and the agenicies. Since 2010 I have been paying Allied one of the payment agencies for my school loan only to find out that my account was sold in September (with no notice) to Coastal Professional. Because of this change I was considered a non payer to Coastal Professionals and had my taxes offseted even though I was still paying Allied. I am working right now to get this fixed. I am a mother of three wonderful boys ranging from the ages 10, 9 and 8. Taking my taxes hurt me more then I really imagined. My landlord gave me the oppurtunity to pay him with these funds becasue as a singel mother my car had broken down the previous month and had to get it fixed as I am the provider and transportation of my home. Not getting my taxes back then ended up putting me a month behind. I have been paying my Landlord with the little I get so that I do not continue to build a huge debt with them. I am looking for help to help me get caught up. The amount I need is $1,000.00. This includes rent and all fees. I am trying to stay our of eviction but only have 1 more week to get this together. Please HELP!

Almost losing hope...

Posted by Darius on 2011-04-05 17:58:50

I apologize for the double post.
This seems to be my last resort, since I never imagined I would ever be in the situation I am now. Losing my family is very close to being a real conclusion, and a low point in my life.

The story began with a job loss. I began to realize that with my health failing, the job I had was something I could no longer do. To keep us afloat, our landlords were kind to us and they agreed to help out with the rent. Bills would slip, and we can no longer do things we wanted to, but at least we had a roof over our heads. Our family, which consisted of me, my two young daughters, and my wife, who is disabled, would still have access to medication or food. Sometimes, the issue would get dire, since my wife is in the hospital for days or weeks at a time. Somehow, I managed to take care of the girls during that time.

But things went from bad to worse as one of my daughters were going in and out of the hospital herself for several issues, ranging from digestive disorders to problems with her heart. I'm a grown man, and it takes a lot for me to get so emotional, but it ripped my heart out for my daughter to say how thirsty she was when she wasn't allowed to drink for very long periods of time.

With the economic turmoil, we have considered moving to a cheaper place, me taking several jobs, and somehow taking care of the girls, my wife, and myself, never mind the piling hospital and utility bills. But it can only get worse: Our daughters can be removed from us. And that's something I don't want to happen.

I'm not standing still here. I'm doing everything I can, even with my own failing health. But I know I can only do so much. I don't have a family to speak of to help, and her family is not willing to even take the girls. Once again, I never imagined I would ever be in the position, so anything you can assist me and my family with is so appreciated. If I ever do get through this, I will do everything in my ability to pay it forward. I thank you, & my wife and daughters thank you.

Tuition to keep couple close

Posted by Dylanj on 2011-04-05 05:58:04

I am trying to move to Australia to study International Business at Bond University where my full tuition for the duration of my degree will be $14,420 per semester. I am going to move there with my girlfriend whom I intend to marry. She is an Australian citizen who's mother took her and four brothers from their close knit family when she was seven years old to move in with an alcoholic man who was to become her stepfather. Within the first week of moving to the states and in with the man they children had never before met, he began sexually abusing her. This would continue to happen multiple times a week for six years. She kept it a secret because he threatened to kill her if she told anyone. When she was eleven years old she told one of her friends whose mother reported this to the authorities. She was then taken to a safe house and after a few weeks and his denial of doing so, her mother told her that she was a liar and that her stepfather did no such thing. As if such a young girl could describe so vividly such horrible acts. After moving back into the house and being told by her mother that she was a liar, he continued to molest her for another two years. He also physically and emotionally abused her and her brothers. She finally moved out of her house her senior year and moved in with my mother who unfortunately grew up in a very similar environment (I found out about both their pasts about a month apart from each other). My girlfriend having been estranged from her Australian family and being forced to live in an abusive household for years, only knowing her mothers word to be the truth, was able to reunite with her Australian family this past December. Her mother had told her that their family over in Australia was corrupt and they all hated each other, and that they were generally bad people. She had also been emailing the family about what how horrible her kids were and that my girlfriend was a loose young girl doing an assortment of drugs, all of which was false as she had been with me the last year and we don’t indulge in such acts being that I’ve had relatives O.D. and her stepfather is an alcoholic. When her Australian family came to Disneyland they called her up and she was able to go visit them for their two-day stint in California. She was able to find out just how wrong what she had grown up knowing to be truth was. The family that supposedly hated each other was on an 18 day family vacation involving 13-15 hour flights each way with 12 people ranging from grandparents to grandkids. Obviously they don't hate each other or they wouldn't take such a trip. They were not corrupt, but hard working honest people consisting of two police officers, a brother and brother-in-law who were partnering in an entrepreneurial endeavor and the others working for the family engineering firm. My girlfriend has been seeing a therapist who has helped her in to begin recovering from the psychological damage. She has also been establishing a very healthy and happy relationship with her Australian relatives via the Internet and phone calls. Her uncle has offered to pay for her throughout college if she goes to university there as top schools cost a mere six thousand dollars for citizens. She is weary of going because she does not want to leave me as I have a played a big part in helping her find the strength to leave her abusive family and getting her in touch with my mother who has been the best motherly figure she could possibly have. I want her to go as I know how much having her family means to her. Seeing how happy she has become at the thought of reuniting with her family as well as seeing her father who she has not seen or talked to for 11 years, I know in my heart that she needs to go. As you could imagine I do not want to leave her either and that is why I am trying to get myself over there. We plan to get married as soon as I can get into a career and be able to support her, she wants to sooner, but I wont until I can give her what I feel she deserves. As you can imagine, spending three to four years apart on almost literally opposite sides of the earth would be very emotionally stressful on the both of us and the last thing I want to do is to make her hurt anymore than what she has had to endure.
My plan is to move to Australia and attend Bond University where I will get a bachelors degree in International Business. Bond runs three semesters a year as opposed to the generic two semesters per year of most other colleges. This will allow me to finish my degree in two years. The cost of tuition will be $86,520 total equaling $14,420 per semester, which is the same as it would be at the University of Queensland, which is a public college as opposed to private. The cost of on campus living ranges from $640-$10,040 a month depending on what would be available. I have a road bike that I am going to use for local transportation and I plan to sell my car which KBB value is $13,000 and buy a motorcycle that I can ride for longer trips so I can save on gas. The remainder of the Car money will obviously go towards tuition. I am currently in school in California and trying to get a job while in school. As soon as this semester ends I am going to try for a job on the offshore oil platforms as they can make $1,500-$2,000 a week from what I have read. I plan to work that until September semester would start in Australia. That would give me between $13,500-$24,000 depending on what they pay and whether they use a one week off two week on or one week on one week off schedule. I plan to work while in school full time there. My family cannot afford to assist me as both of my parents are sales people and this economy has greatly reduced their incomes to barely paying the bills.
I appreciate your taking the time to read my post and wish you well.

But things went from sort of bad to worse as one of my daughters were going in and out of the hospital herself for several issues, ranging from digestive disorders to problems with her heart.

Out of Work and Out of Money

Posted by brokeinnyc on 2010-12-21 23:58:58

I've worked for 30 yrs, about half in various nonprofit organizations ranging from senior services to learning disabled students. I did it because I wanted to help people & still believe that is the most fulfilling way to make a living, but I lost my job in the Great Recession. I've applied for hundreds of jobs, had a handful of interviews but no offers, not even second interviews. So i applied for a student loan to get a paralegal certificate which I think will help but in the interim I don't have anymore financial resources. I've sold personal items, depleted my savings and reached the end of my UI benefits.

I was responsible & used my benefits to pay essential bills & pay off credit cards. I was able to close 2 accounts & almost a third if my benefits hadn't expired. I've delayed my periodontal work to pay rent, food and soon for school books. The credit card w/the lowest balance is $400 & the next lowest is a little of $1000. I just need to get over the hump because I feel things may improve a bit in the new year. Anything would help at this point.

Government Taking It All From Family of 6

The Government is putting a lien on our condo, and freezing both our personal and business account for taxes

Hello,
My name is Ashlee(27), and my husband is Luis(30).
We are highschool sweethearts, and have been together since I was 16.
We have four beautiful children, ranging from 9 years old to one.

Six years ago, my husband and I started a cleaning company with a borrowed vacuum. There were many times when we were both ready to throw in the rag, literally. However, we both knew that if we gave up on our business we would both be stuck working full times jobs, and our children would be raised by daycare workers, that is not what we wanted.
We were able to buy a three bedroom condo.(we had one child at the time)
We worked our butt off, we paid our bills, we took care of our children, and we sponsered children through World Vision, we helped others in need.
After completeing our taxes a few years ago, we noticed that we were in big trouble with the government, just in personal taxes we have to pay $14,000. That was a few years ago.

Our taxes we just completed, and currently we owe $50,000. We cant pay that, we dont have extra money once bills are paid, and food is put on the table. There is no extra. They dont understand that and just look at the end number.
The government is trying to put a lien on our condo, as well as freeze both our personal and business accounts. We dont want to claim personal and business bankrupcy, however thats what it looks like might be happening in the New Year.

I know that we put ourself in this situation, however we have always tried to do the right thing, but now are being pulled down and set back, and pushed into poverty.

Please if you are able to help my family through this situation, we will be forever greatful.
Thank You & God Bless
Love and Peace to All
