Dire Straits. noun. a bad or difficult situation or state of affairs, (not just the name of a band).
Up front, I take full responsibility for my current condition/situation, no other person place or thing is responsible for bad decisions I have made. And I have made quite a few.
That being stated, here are the facts;
Currently living in a car(read that homeless).
Unemployed, not unemployable but a very poor job history.
Stuck in a place where the weather is nice, but I really do not want to be here.
So if you have guessed that this is a plee for help, you are correct.
How did I get here? Years of practice.
I recently spoke with a professional, not in his professional settings, but of subjet matter that is discussed in his professional settings.
After some communications between us his opinion is that quite probably I am suffering from PTSD (Post Tramatic Stress Disorder). Something I aquired at the age of 17. 45 years ago I was involved in an automobile accident that resulted in both deaths, yes plural, and permanent disability to persons other than myself. Although due to circumstances beyond my control I was never charged with any crime, and there are no wants or warrants now, I believe the accident was my fault. I am willing to discuss the details in private as posting them on the internet could possibly bring painful memories to any living family members involved.
So for 45 years I have practiced the symptoms of PTSD so well that I have slipped through undetected. Probably in part due to the fact that although I am of the typical age of a Vietnam Vet, I never served in that arena, as I ran away from home just after the accident, because I was afraid of going to jail, that any draft papers never caught up with me. I was not afraid of going to jail because of being locked behind bars, I was afraid of suffering more sexual abuse at the hands of older inmates like I had already received from my sick alcoholic father.
So not being a vet and not discussing the accident no one ever considered PTSD, and they now know that severe trama of any sort can cause it, not just the theatre of the battlefield. Couple that to me not staying in one spot long enough for anyone to really know me. I have been successfully hiding in my head. As long as I don't get too close too intimate it won't hurt when I run away and lose you.
Severe trama it is now believed to stunt emotional growth. If the trama is severe enough emotional growth can in fact be locked in to the time of the tramatic event. So imagine being a teenager in a 61 year old body, thats me. Married 4 times afraid to have children. I heard on a radio talk show when I was very young that "The sins of the fathers where passed to their offsprings" and made a decision to never have children because no way was I going to do what was done to me to some helpless trusting child. This is one of the few things that I have been successful at.
The professional says I must discuss these matters, that is part of the healing process. So I am jumping in off the deep end, going online with my story in hopes that it will benefit myself and any other poor sod that happens to be in a similar situation.
Yes I am asking for help, financial help. Here with the help of the professional is what I am thinking, If I can find a few thousand lucky individuals that are housed and employed to give one dollar then I can purchase a used motorhome, put it in an inexpensive rv park so that I can have a base of operations from which to take showers on a daily basis, eat hot food and have an address to put on job applications. I could find some form of professional assistance either city/state/federal to deal with the PTSD for the long term.
There is help available.
And just to ease the voices in your head, I have not had a drink of alcohol or any hard drugs since 1982. I have used marijuana on a irregular basis off and on my whole life, I'll see what the PTSD treatment brings regarding that issue.

My Wifes Information::::
I was Married to a very wonderful man for 31 years. He developed heart disease and diabetes. He fought valiently but finaly succomed to the medical problems. I became very sad and was almost at the brink of a mental breakdown. I did become involved with the local Greif Counseling service as this helped me to ease my burden a small amount. I began talking to this nice fellow on Pogo.com which is an online gaming site where one may play all sorts of games such as Solitare etc. We hit it off and began internet dating in August of 2008. We arranged to meet in November and upon viewing each other we knew the bond we had felt over the air was a real bond and Leo dropped to his knees and askeed me to Marry him. We married a week later in November of 2008 and have been together ever since. Since than we have both become quite medically burdened ourselves, Leo has a thing called Sudden Cardiac death Syndrome and has had to have had an Automatic Implantable Cardiac Defibrilator instaled recently. We both suffer from back woes and must seek care frequently. Now we do have a 1996 Chevy Blazer that runs when it feels like it, the airconditioner is broken and what with being in the Midwest is very hot to have to drive around with the windows down. A computer part that costs 1500.00 for the A.B.S. system is out and we just can not afford to fix it. We love the vehicle as it was my first ever fully owned vehicle from a bank loan in my life. My Wife and I will be Married for three years on November 28th.We met in late July or early August of 2008. She had just lost her husband of 31 years. I was myself looking for a somewhat different lifestyle than I was in currently. I was living at home at over 40, disabled with a moderate spinal disease and more or less going nowhere. Debbie and I hit it off right away and we were engaged in October and Married in November. We each have been each others rock and best friend and companion. I have since went into the Ministry and have undertaken many courses towards helping others to live as good a life as possible. Debbie is a great personal loss counselor in her own right. I recently became a heart patient and have had to have an Automatic Implantable cardiac defibrilator installed in my upper chest which has a built in pace maker. All this at only the age of 49.Debbie has had to have undergone major back surgery herself and have screws and cages ut into her lower back. This makes us totaly disabled yet we both have a teriffic outlook on life and are always willing to help others. Life is what you make it, not a series of bad events that bring you down. We both appreciate each day given unto us and are so greatful for all our friends, family, and fellow searchers of lifes Grace. I am truly ashamed that I have to beg for help. That being said I do not know where else to turn for help. I am praying that there really are people who care enough to help others who are suffering.

I have been a loyal and faithful wife for 15 years. I've been with the same man for more than half of my life, as I was married very young. We have a 14 year old son and a 10 month old daughter. I would do anything for my family and I have tried for years to keep our family together. All I can say now is that enough is enough. My husband is diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. It has been extremely difficult dealing with his illness, but now it has become impossible. I've put up with him cheating on me, lying to me, him having alcohol problems, losing his jobs, his controlling behavior etc.. etc.. His illness causes him to believe that everyone is out to get him. He believes his home is bugged by the government as well as his phone. He believes they are tracking him in his vehicle. He believes he gets messages from God through the television and radio stations. He is see's and hears things that are not there. Many times he won't have a normal conversation with me unless we go outside and he runs the lawn mower so no one can listen in! I have tried to get him help and he's been hospitalized and medicated, but it does not help all his symptoms. I know that when your spouse is ill you should stay and take care of them, but I just cannot continue living this way. He is medicated at this time, so he isn't hallucinating. What he is, is extremely controlling. He moved us out of the apartment we were living in after my mother died last year. He moved us in with his mother, who has always disliked me. She treats me horribly. He stays gone all of the time and I am stuck here living in a garage. He has the only vehicle and he controls all of the money. We live in the middle of nowhere so I can't even walk to a gas station. He has alienated me from my friends and my family has all passed away now. All I have besides him is my two children. I would love to be able to work outside the home, but its impossible to do so without a vehicle and childcare. He knows this and just will not allow it.
My only hope is that enough people will understand what I am going through and have pity on my children and myself. All I wish to do is obtain enough money to get on my feet and get out of here. I will then gladly work as I was a Medical Billing Specialist. I will take care of my children and myself.

What I really need to do is move my children and myself into an apartment which runs on the bus line. This way I will be able to take the bus to work each day. After some time I will be able to save enough money to purchase a decent used car.

In my area a two bedroom apartment starts at $550 per month and a 3 bedroom apartment starts at $775 per month. Before I can move I need first and last months rent ($1550 max). $150 for Electricity Deposit. I am estimating that I would need about $500 to pay for a U-haul truck and a couple of guys to help move me in. I also feel that I should not move until I have my next months rent, grocery money and a little extra for miscellaneous expenses ($1275). So, it looks like as soon as I can come up with approximately $3500 my nightmare will finally end!

The good news is that I do have an old co-worker who is in charge of hiring at a medical billing office in my area. She is holding a position open for me in which I will earn $600 gross each week. I know its not much, but I should be able to manage on my own as long as I budget wisely. I should also be able to receive child support payments for my two children at some point in the future.

If you have the means to help my children and myself I plead with you to do so. You would be dramatically changing the lives of three people in a very positive way. I promise that I will never forget any help that I receive and as soon as I am in the position to do so I will pay it forward.

My husband and I are lifelong radio personalities and producers. We have enjoyed a good life and always a good income. When the largest radio conglomerate in the nation fired (layoff my a$$) everyone over 40 we lost our jobs. Our 401K was the first to go. It fed us and we paid a premium to the IRS. Our savings account of 20,000 is long gone for rent, utilities, our internet bill so we can search & apply for jobs, and food. My husband has heart failure. He requires 10 medications a day. We couldn't pay our land line so this means the data can't be fed from his pacemaker to the cardiologist's office isn't being transmitted and has not been for over two months. We worked our way up. We scrimped and saved. Neither of us smoke, we don't use drugs, we do not drink, we do not waste money. I shopped for us at a Goodwill in the River Oaks area, the best clothes in town as far as resale goes; even when times were good. My unemployment pay of $800 monthly is gone 3 months now. His is $812 and our rent & utilities are combined; $725 monthly which is the least expensive we could find - is not paid almost 2 months as of August 1. We face being homeless very soon. Not a slice of bread in our house. We have sold our wedding bands and every piece of jewelry we had. We've sold our furniture; the best pieces. We are down to nothing. The social service agencies are out of funds as so many are in the same position. If you can find it in your heart to help us, it would be a blessing as we pray without ceasing. I knew the day would come. I would turn the key to the lock of my apartment and the lights wouldn't turn on. I would drop my purse on the counter and open the refrigerator to get a cold drink and it wouldn't be there. For months I stressed about it; feeling powerless to do anything about it. After five years at my job, I still couldn't afford to pay my bills.

A few of my family members know that I don't have electricity; and one trusted co-worker at my job. But it's the secret shame I'm only allowed to grieve about when I walk out the doors of my job every day. The extra daylight of Summer delays the depression that sets in inside a dark apartment. PECO Energy had every reason why they couldn't work with me. with a rent of $700.00 a month and an income of $21,000 a year, I was told by every public assistance program that I make too much money. It's expensive to eat out, so most of my income is absorbed with rent and food. I will be starting college in August and I have no electricity to do my homework.

To say that I need help is an understatement. I would like to tell you a story that relates to why I am asking for help.
My father was a Vietnam vet who proudly enlisted into the army to serve his country. After willingly serving two tours of duty, he came home and married my mother (his high school sweetheart) and started a family consisting of me and my two older sisters.
When I was four, my father began experiencing difficulties with his legs and feet. After many unsuccessful operations, it was determined that he was losing the bone density in his legs and he was put in a wheelchair.
My father was an amazing man; he never let his being in a wheelchair keep him down. He climbed Pike's Peak twice and Mount Evans once in his wheelchair, one of his climbs was filmed by a local TV show in Colorado called P.M. Magazine. We have the video footage on beta and are trying to find a way to convert it to DVD. I would love to share his story with anyone wanting to watch it. It shows what a courageous man he was. It was a heartbreaking climb over rough terrain and sometimes he had to strap his wheelchair to his ankles and drag it while he scooted up steep inclines on his backside. It never deterred him. He had more strength and determination than any man I have ever met in my life. He also ran marathons in his wheelchair and spoke to other handicapped and disabled individuals to help them realize that although someone may be hindered, it just means that they learn to function differently. "I may be in a wheelchair, but the wheelchair isn't in me," he used to say.
In 1987, when I was 12, the harsh weather conditions of Colorado became unbearable for my father and we moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico.
My father was never granted disability in Colorado or New Mexico and while he fought for 30 years for his pension from the Army, he never received that either (the common story of we can't seem to find your files even though my father repeatedly submitted his paperwork to show his contribution to our country). As a result, my mother found herself working 2 full time jobs just to support us and we still barely made ends meet.
We grew up poor our entire lives, but we understood what it was like to be rich in other ways. Our family was close and we knew that, no matter how rough things could be at times, that we really did have each other. My sisters and I grew very close over the time when we had no electricity and only had each other to listen to because we didn't have the power for television and radio. We are still very close to this day. I will never regret how we grew up, even with the struggles, because it was the foundation of who we are today. We all learned how to be kind and unselfish and value each other. Both my sisters and I all have our own children and work hard to instill the same values in them.
In 2000, my father was diagnosed with lung cancer as a result of being subjected to Agent Orange while in Vietnam. The tumors were visible in both lungs and nothing could be done. He passed away one week after the diagnosis. We had no time to prepare and certainly no time to say goodbye.

My mother now lives in PA in a cute little Amish town. She has since remarried a wonderful man named Jack. He is also a Vietnam veteran.

My sisters and I still live in New Mexico with our families, although my heart is definitely on the east coast with my mother.
A short time after my mother moved to PA, she got a
job as a nurse. She loved helping other people as she had done all her life. Unfortunately, she suffered a fall that left her with permanent neck and spinal injuries. After going through her own numerous surgeries, she was unable to continue the work that she loved so much. The tables have turned from when we were growing up where she was the only source of income and Jack has been the sole provider for the last several years.
Recently, Jack began to feel very ill and it looks like the effects of Agent Orange have done their damage once again. He is suffering from skin cancer and stage 4 prostate cancer and after going through a series of tests, the probability of also having lymphoma is very high. My mother is going through the same horror once again and while my sisters and I are grown, losing a father to Agent Orange for the second time isn't easy on the heart.
A few years ago, my mother lost both parents and her only sibling, a brother, in the span of four months. She has nobody and I can't bear to leave her alone while she suffers physically and emotionally.
Unfortunately, I lost my job a couple months ago due to layoffs and have had extreme difficulty finding another source of income. Las Cruces is a small city with very limited opportunity. While I worked in the same profession for the past 11 years, I have applied for any and every type of job I could find.
We are struggling to find a way to move close to my mother so that I can take care of her and so she won't be alone if she loses Jack. My sisters and I are the only family she has left and I want nothing more than to be there for her.

I am hoping to find a job there very quickly and I would also love to attend schooling and get my degree in forensics. It has been a dream of mine to be able to assist in solving crime related cases. I firmly believe that I can accomplish my career goals and help my mother if I were in a state with far more job opportunities.
We have never been comfortable financially and my 2 teenage boys understand what it is like to do without the things they want in exchange for just the things they need, much like my sisters and I when we were growing up. I have always wanted more for my kids than to see them grow up here in a high poverty state. I believe the job opportunities and schooling for them will be equally beneficial. They both already have career minded goals that will take them farther in a bigger state.

It has been 4 years since I've seen my mother as neither of us can afford the expense of a trip.

All I am requesting is enough assistance to be able to move my family closer to my mother and locate a house to rent while I search for a job. I am only asking for short term support as I know that I am capable of supporting my own family and I am certain that I will be able to find gainful employment in a short time.

So Im desperate to get into the radio industry, and I have all the individual experience you could wish for, however none direct to radio. I have contacted many individuals involved in the industry, and basically the outcome is I need to go to college for direct training.

A little about ourselves, We are a recently engaged couple, and we have lost nearly everything. We are living on friends couches, under bridges, and when it gets really cold, we sometimes get assistance from the local police to place us in a Motel room for the night. We have been through alot, let me get started.

When we met 3 years ago, we never believed that we would be in the situation that we are in now. I was working a well paying job, so was my lovely girl. In a moment though, everything changed. I had to move to Montana for a family emergency, and I was forced to leave work for this. Needless to say, that was my last day of stable employment. After moving to Montana, I watched as my uncle struggled with cancer, and as the economy crashed. My uncle passed away due to the complications, and I was able to return back to Colorado. A job that I had interviewed for and was promised was given to someone else, and the 6 months that I spent in Montana, well, it took nearly all of my savings. On a whim, I took all that I had left and moved back with my girlfriend.

Living in Boulder, CO, we were able to make ends meet, working for Labor Ready, and getting daily work, shoveling snow, and other tasks. We were doing good, but thats when family started to get involved. Our lease was ending, and we did not have the desire to continue paying for a place that cost us so much. We moved in with family to get on our feet. Her mother is a nice person, but has everything messed up. She is the most vengeful person that I have ever met. We did move into her house in Parker, CO, and about a month later, I was able to get a job. Things were going well again, we bought a car, and were slowing saving for the day we moved out. It never happened. Her mom was irritated at the hours that I was working, saying that I needed a better job, and after that I stood my ground on my opinion that my job was perfectly fine, and I really didn't care if I was working graveyards, I was making really good money for the time. She was not happy about this, and asked me to leave. Well, I just started the job, and I had to have a place to stay, so I payed for a local motel, and proceeded to make that work.

I found out the car I bought was a lemon, and after paying $1500 for it, the rod bearings in the motor went horrible. I was slowly finding out that paying for a motel and trying to save money for rent was nearly impossible, and I was unable to keep going like this. I lost my job after showing up 5 minutes late during the 90 day probationary period, due to the above mentioned car. Needless to say, I was given a check for the two weeks that I had worked, and another for 2 weeks, as a severance pay. I jumped on the opportunity that I was given, and got an apartment, payed everything up for a couple of months, and sat down to get another job. It never happened.

We ended up starting our own business, using our friends car, whom was living with us to help with costs, with the last $50 that we had to our name. One call to a local radio station was all that was needed, our computer repair business was taking off like crazy. We had the bills paid, and could actually have a little fun again. Then again, family issues prevailed, and our friend had to leave, taking the car, and thus the business. We were stuck, not wanting people to drop computers off to someone living in an apartment in a colorful part of town. We ran out of funding again, and we made ends meet, but barely.

Now, we are in a real predicament. With no job, no house, no car, and nowhere to live, we can't do anything. We are stuck in between a rock and a hard place. We have applied to every local motel, trying to get room and board in exchange for the work, etc.. Trying to get a job as a server, to make those daily tips, so that we can afford a motel to get back on our feet. This is a really bad situation, but things are looking out, just really far off into the future. I was accepted to college, and I can get assistance with living expenses, but not until nearly September, and until then, we are stuck being homeless. Its not all that bad, just when it gets cold it really sucks. We need help with anything, be it getting a motel room for a while, to buying a van/rv to live in for this time, anything helps, and I appreciate those that have stuck to reading this so far.
