Please help Ava!

Penny Foundation. Ava is a rescue dog from Mexico. She has filled our
lives with joy and happiness. Ava turned one year old in February. She
is a very active, playful pup who is full of life. A month ago, the exuberant Ava was playing in our backyard. She slipped, and ripped a
tendon in her right hind leg. Upon initial vet exam, she was deemed
fine. However, the condition persisted and she refused to play or go
for walks (VERY unusual for Ava). We took her to a different vet a week
later, and the diagnosis came in â Ava would require surgery. There was
no other option. The injury would not heal on its own. The vet told us
that Avaâs breed is prone to this type of injury. We were very sad to
hear this, as Ava is so young and the surgery would require two months
of recovery time. The surgery is also expensive â $3000 minimum. My
husband and I are not rich people, and are therefore trying to raise
some money to go towards Avaâs surgery. Any amount will help. We want
Ava to make a full recovery, and get back to her normal, fun, playful
puppy lifestyle. The vet told us the prognosis after surgery is very
good, and that Ava should return to full function. Please help Ava.
Thank you!

Puppy Needs Medical Attention
Posted by cher on 2011-09-12 20:58:27
As compared to some of the really sad and trying requests on this site mine seems so trivial. Unfortuneately I still need your help.
I sold one of my puppies last year to who I thought would be a wonderful home. I was wrong and my puppy has had to pay the price for my bad choice.
I do have a 100 percent take back on all my dogs regardless of age. Her owners just had a new baby and were not paying attention to her (Bella). Bella contracted a unrinary tract infection which they did not do anything about.
By the time they called me her temperature was 106 degrees and she was staggering. I drove two hours to pick her up at 10pm at night and took her to the Universtiy Vet Hospital close to my home. We arrived there at 3am.
It was a $2000.00 bill when they finally released her. If the owners had done their job it would have been $160.00 and 10 days of antibiotics. I have insurance on my guys but these people had nothing and they do not want to pay.
My husband and I are undergoing a seperation right now and I just don't have the $3000.00 this is going to come to when it is all done.
Bella is doing wonderful right now and I am looking for another forever home for her. She does have kidney damage and we are still testing to see how bad and if she is going to fully recover. Each of those visits is $150.00 and she needs to go once a month for a minimum of 6 months.
Please help and I thank each and everyone of you for reading my request and God Bless.
Regards
Cheryle and Bella

DOG WITH SERIOUS HEART CONDITION
Posted by LUKE on 2011-07-03 14:58:28
Myself and a friend gave donations to help get Luke neutered and heart worm tested so a rescue organization would hopefully take him and find him a home as he only had a couple days before being euthanized. I kept in touch with the shelter he was at only to find out when they put him under to be neutered he actually died on the table and they brought him back. They then found out he had a congenital heart disease and no rescue organizations would take him.
I went and got Luke last September because I did not want him living out the rest of his days in a cage. At the time I was told his treatment for this condition would only cost about $50 a month. We had a multitude of debt already from Bully's chemo treatments, but I figured we could handle the $50 a month. 9 months and many, many bills later it turns out Luke's heart condition in quite expensive to treat. He had a complication in May when he got digoxin toxicity from the digoxin he takes for his heart. He was very sick for a couple of weeks and now we are having to have his chest tapped to remove fluid anywhere from every 2-4 days. He does not mind the chest taps and he feels like a puppy after their over but the tap alone is $255 and that doesn't count the office visit that goes with it or his numerous medications he's on. Weâve spent over $4000 in the last two months alone and the credit cards are quickly drying up.
I have a job and work every day, I hate to ask for money, but anybody who is willing to give, I promise you that each and every dollar will go towards Luke, his medical expenses and all his medicines. For everyone, giving or not, please remember Luke every day in your prayers.
Thank you for reading this.
Nearly Destitute

Here is where the story gets ugly. My mom had paid my auto insurance but she lost her job so I started to pay the premiums. I told my insurance agent to automatically deduct the premium and I gave her my bank information. So I was under the impression I had insurance. I did not. The agent only charged me for one month's premium and never set up the automatic deduction. Great. But there seemed to be a silver lining...the two other vehicles involved in the accident drove away before the police arrived. I did not get a ticket, I was completely sober and cooperative, and the police were surprised two victims of an accident would just drive away. Both parties got all of my information, they drove away before I got theirs. At the time of the accident I wasn't worried because I thought I had insurance.
When I called my agent I was informed that my policy lapsed because I hadn't paid my monthly premium.
I was curious if the fact that both of these people drove away would take the heat off of me. The police thought this was possible, after all, how can they prove they didn't smash up their vehicles further after they drove away to get more insurance money?
It gets worse. I left my job a few years ago because I had a job all but promised to me in Denver. Obviously, I didn't get the job in Denver. Not sure why, I aced the interview. So with no steady income (I was used to making about 42k yearly) I held hope I'd land a good job and had no choice to but to survive on a credit card for food and gas. That good job never came along. I ended up working overnights as a nurse assistant in the mental health unit. I've been drowning in debt, I had to get a car from what some consider a predatory lending car lot. I lost the hospital job in April for 'misconduct' (I worked nights and someone reported that I was sleeping, I wasn't but they didn't believe me so now I don't qualify for unemployment.) So, no income to pay for that vehicle and it got repossessed. But the best part is I got a letter in January 2011 stating that I owe one of the parties involved in the accident around 5k. I don't have it. If I had the money I would write both of the drivers involved in that accident fat checks right now, but I simply do not have the resources. The letter from the state dept of transportation stated that my license would be suspended unless I came up with the money. So I called the agency, and from my conversation with the state employee it sounded like my case would be reviewed. Nope. A collection agency sent me a letter saying in total I owe nearly 35k for the two cars and my credit cards.
In February I was on my way to a friend's house and I was pulled over because my temp tags were expired. The officer ran my license and I was handcuffed and taken to jail. I have never been arrested, and my driving record is excellent. The officer even thought it was silly. Regardless, now I have a court date in early July and I have the public defender taking my case. He said I either need to pay $1000 fine, or spend a minimum of 2 days in jail. So it looks as if I will be in jail at least 2 days because I have no money. Being without a vehicle is no picnic. My job search is limited to places on a bus route close to my home in Kansas City. I have no friends or family with that kind of money. I am not a drug addict, or a criminal. My career tanked, and I've kept falling through the cracks. I stay positive and I love life, but the anxiety and absence of pride in my life are making me isolate more. I can't afford to do anything. Luckily my brother is letting me stay in a spare room at his place or I may be homeless. I am a hard worker, I have a bachelor's degree, and I am a pleasant person to work with. But I have no car, no money, horrible credit, and bleak job prospects. Please do not think I feel sorry for myself. I've made stupid decisions that got me where I am. I take responsibility for putting myself in situations where these things happened. And especially for not paying attention to my financial obligations (the insurance premium). That being said, all I can do is look forward and do the best I can to get back on my feet. At this moment I feel like a wet puppy who is trying unsuccessfully to jump out of the tub during a bath. I need help. I don't know who to turn to. I've wanted to volunteer at some places to meet people and network but without a vehicle and a suspended license I can't even volunteer at most places. Please, if anyone can help, contact me with suggestions. I desperately need to file for bankruptcy but that costs around 1,800.00 and I can't afford that.
I also have around 27k in student loan debt. That debt along with the approximately 35k in unsecured debt leaves me with a very large amount of money that I have no realistic chance of paying back. The student loans will not be affected if I file for bankruptcy. Which is fine. As a matter of pride and doing what is right I don't like that my debts can simply be written off, but that is seemingly my only option. I would love to volunteer for a charity of my debtor's choosing to start to contribute something, but that proposal often times ends up sounding like a mutated version of indentured servitude.
I apologize for the rambling. This is the first time I have ever written all of this down at once and I feel better.
Thank you for your time.

Every Boy Should Have a Dog
Posted by ProjectPuppy on 2010-07-05 16:58:58
For a loooooong time, Ive wanted to adopt a puppy. We couldnt have one when I was a kid (allergies, parents, etc.), then for a long time I lived in the city. I know, I know, there are plenty of city dogs and its quite possible to give them wonderful lives, but I just wasnt sure my lifestyle would allow for that. Personally, for my ambition as a dog caretaker, I resolved not to seriously entertain bringing home a canine companion until I had a fenced yard that he could enjoy and relax in without being leashed or strictly supervised. Just under two years ago, I moved into my very first house, with a great big yard and a nice tall fence. Perfect, right?
Seemingly, yes. At first, the house needed a lot of work. The previous occupants had kept dogs, but were not terribly responsible about it. So, there was a lot of rehabbing to be done to floors, walls, woodwork and carpet. I really wanted to bring a puppy home, but I had to do it right. Have the infrastructure and resources all in place, really set us up for success, yknow? The plan was to adopt near the beginning of summer vacation (Im a teacher), so wed have plenty of time to bond, and train, and acclimate and play and socialize and... you get the picture. Things were looking good, and then... I lost my job.
Again, not wanting to leave the door open for failure, Project Puppy had to be postponed. I have a second (and now a third... and half a fourth) job, and some savings and other resources, so its not like Im in real danger of becoming homeless. BUT, taking on additional, non-elective expenses right now wouldnt be fiscally responsible. Unless, of course, I have help; thats where you come in.
It occurs to me, that oftentimes in the community of dog lovers, that when someone has a litter or finds a stray or has to move, and looks to place their pooch in a home rather than abandon them to a shelter, they reach out to their networks of friends and fellow-dog-lovers. So often Ive overheard the phrase, Ohhh, Id love to, but... dont have the space/money/time for another dog, the wife/husband/landlord would kill me, Ill ask around... I know that many donate generously to the ASPCA and various rescue organizations, on top of whatever is spent providing furry friends with toys and treats galore. I thought that perhaps, some of these dog lovers who have already filled their own homes to capacity with paws and leashes, might be willing to contribute to keeping at least one pup out of the system and in a comfortable home; and Project Puppy was born.
If youve got the dime, Ive got the time. The house is in order, the backyard is all set, Ive done a fair amount of research and dogsitting. Ive got a small network of dog-friends to socialize with and a reliable de facto sitter if I should ever need to travel out of town. The last missing piece is the available fundage to provide food, equipment, vet care, etc. I figure if I can scrape together $1000, that should be adequate for a years worth of normal care. Maybe a little more, considering the initial outlay of bowls and a leash and a bed. If you support the cause, and care to throw a dollar or two in the pot, Ill squirrel these funds away specifically for this purpose, and every little bit helps. Like child support, except this child is kinda hairy and has really harsh breath and I will never ask you for a paternity test. If you cant afford to donate, but know someone who would, maybe youll forward them a link so they can come read?
Thats about as far as Ive thought this web plea through. My owner taught me not to beg, but Ive a feeling that if enough people just read this site, I wont need to. Ill keep the site updated with how close we are to the goal, and hopefully once we succeed, pictures/videos/updates on the little guys progress. Thanks for your time, and your generosity!
