I am a single mom struggling with the needs of a disabled child. The father is a deadbeat and I am without financial or emotional support. My son needs some medical/exercise equipment to help manage his Sensory Processing Disorder and I just can’t afford it. To work a second job would mean I am away from him when he needs me and the majority of my pay would go to childcare anyway. I see no other solution. I am asking for help meeting the goal of $20k. I'm a struggling graphic designer in need of a new desktop Machintosh. I'm aiming to raise $1300 to buy a new iMac computer so that I can start designing to complete my portfolio and start applying for work. My last computer failed on me during finals in school. Thanks to my school's computer lab, I was able to finish my work and graduate. That was back in NYC. I couldn't afford living there on my own and had to come to a smaller town to live with parents. I worked minimum wage retail to gain some money, but the physical stress forced me to stop working due to muscle weakness problem I have. A medical affliction caused by a tumor that has been affecting my energy and skeletal/muscle strength for about 7 years. It was hard getting through school with my condition. It was twice as hard having to work on my feet for hours in a retail environment.

Double my misfortune, I live in a place where jobs are hard to come by. A small town which has a lot of developing to do and jobs are far between. I need a car to travel to the nearest grocery store and can't depend on parents to transport me everywhere. This is why a job is so imperative. I'd like to feel fulfilled knowing I'm doing something for my future and earning money to buy my needs. I wish I had the equipment to start looking for work.

I want an iMac more than anything in the world. If I had my iMac, I could update my portfolio, do some online freelance work and help my parents with some bills. I could start applying for jobs from home and not have to rely on my neighbor's iPad to browse the internet. Whenever my family goes to the mall in the weekends, I pass by our local Apple store and I see people walking out of the store with large boxes containing their brand new iMac's, Macbook Pro's or expensive iPad's...and I get angry.

Yes, I know it sounds terrible and I know not everyone buying a computer is a rich business mogul or an overpampered kid whose parents can buy them whatever they want, and they never have to worry about whether they could afford it or not. But it hurts me to know I'm in such a position, that although I am an adult who should be paying her parent's bills, I can't even help myself because I'm unemployed. No thanks to my stupid weak body that can't take a lot of physical strain, no thanks to ending up in a town where I can't get anywhere without having to walk at least two miles, no thanks to not having my computer...

I know Mac's are expensive, but they are the industry standard in what I do. I would like a desktop because they are durable and longer lasting. I have received a scholarship for school but due to illness, I currently need seven classes to complete my education. I am currently on disability but would like to earn my own way of income. I have gastro paresis and have been in and out of the hospital at least every three weeks. I have nerve damage to the nerve in my stomach. I have had to leave school for the last year and a half. I started the year of 2011 taking twenty different medications and ended 2011 only taking seven medications now. I have worked hard this last year and intend to be more aggressive in 2012. I believe that each day gives a person a chance to take one step forward and one step is still a forward motion. I realize there are days that one step seems impossible, but I think it is up to me to take that step. I appreciate the advice along the way, but it is my path to walk. I have come to the conclusion that sometimes we need to reach out to others. I am a giver and I feel uncomfortable about asking for help then it occurred to me that maybe some of those people I gave to have been waiting for an opportunity to give back. Hi, and thank you for reading my plea :)

Last year I was declared permanently disabled by my doctor. ( I was on short term disability before that at work but they cut me off at 4 months instead of the year my seniority had earned). This sudden cutoff started my financial downfall into a spin. My job didn't "fire" me or "let me go", they just kept me active (out for medical issues), until I was no longer able to qualify for unemployment. If I had quit, then I would not have received any medical benefits any longer! In the mean time, I started the Social Security process, (which also does not allow unemployment claims) well. it takes 2 years to even see a judge, but somehow I am supposed to survive with no income until then! Ahhh but you are not allowed to work because then the judge feels you shouldn't be filing....( I mean, I am willing to lick stamps or something!) but strangely enough - I would be allowed (if doctor permitted something) AFTER I am approved, up to a certain amount of money. Whacked, right? So, here I am. I am supposed to see the doctor at least once a month for court purposes, but they don't really say how you are supposed to be able to afford to see him, if you can't have any income! My family has been so awesome helping me the best they can, but my parents are in a fixed income and elderly...my sisters have full families and their own struggles. I am so frustrated, I am not used to feeling like I can't take care of myself! I am sure you realize what kind of financial things I need help with..basic living. I am allowed to have food stamps - so thank goodness for that. I need assistance please with things like electricity, water, garbage, doctor, medication and gas for my car occasionally to get to the Dr...I do not have TV (about 1 1/2 years now) as it is a luxury, my parents offered to pay for my internet connection, which I am extremely grateful for...this is how I am able to post to all of you. Hello. I am a teacher and mother of an adorable little girl, who happens to have a language delay and sensory processing disorder. I am 53 years old businessman from tiny island of Sri Lanka. I started my business in 2007 after retiring from a leading solid rubber manufacturing company (Trelleborg Lanka PVT LTD Swedish own company) where I worked as the manager procurement for good 13 years. I am B.Sc graduate and diploma holder of rubber and plastic product manufacturing.

At the beginning my business, natural rubber processing industry was a success. I even renovated whole plant which was more than 50 years old and purchased two trucks to transport raw materials and finished goods to and from my facility. My trouble started in latter part of 2008 due to global economic down turn. Prices of our finished product, processed natural rubber ( Brown crepe ) declined rapidly in a space of few days thereby incurring heavy losses. Somehow I did managed to dragged my business till 31st march 2009 despite heavy losses. I provided 55 direct employment for very poor peasants in rubber growing area in Sri Lanka.

Due to heavy debt and pressure from my creditors I had to close down the factory and sold it out at very low price to settle my workers dues and some debt. I even had to handed over my vehicles to leasing company due to my failure to settle due installments in time

Ultimately I ended up with Rs. 8.5 million loss ( Approximately US$. 85,000) . Now I lost whole my earning for past years. Some of my creditors filed court cases against me. Some are putting pressure on me to settle their dues. They even posing death threats . I have been mentally and physically abused by my creditors everyday since closer of my plant. Police at the complain of my creditors may arrest me for default. Now I am in dilemma. I need police protection for safety of my life from death threats. At the same time police want me to settle my creditors debt as some cheque issued to creditors were dishonored.

I do not have any saving except my provident fund. After toiling hard for last 30 years, I earned around 3.5 million rupees ( approximately US$. 35,000) . At maturity, when I turn 55 it will be Rs. 4 million. I will get around Rs. 1.5 million as inheritance after selling of my parent properties (House where I live now. My share is 1/6 of the total value). Those wealth can be accessible only after another two years.

As I do not have fixed income nowadays, I am unable to overcome my difficulties without help of charity or donation. Legal expenses and my medical expenses aggravate my misery. My life now totally depend on sympathy of my age old friends. One provide shelter and the others provide meals. Now I am like a beggar although do not beg on the roadside.

I wrote several letter to relevant government organizations for compensation or bailout package, but nobody looked at it as government in short of money for that kind of compensations. I wrote to parliamentary ombudsman as well. All were in vein. Local red cross society replied to my request saying that they do not have mandate to give financial help to individual although my case is worthwhile to be considered.

Although I have taken all the insurance covers needed for our industry, like workmen compensation, fire. Flood, storm and tempest , burglary, personal accident, consequence lost cover could not be obtained due to nature of our industry. I put forward claim for US$. 75,000 but was not entertained due to nature of our industry.

I am looking for a help to settle my debt and restart a business. I can offer my EPF and inheritance as security. But those would be matured only after 2 years. House can be sold out only after flood situation due to unplanned development is permanently arrested by local government in our area. Otherwise a buyer can not be found.
