help with family of special needs kid

Posted by specialneedsmom on 2012-05-16 16:58:00

Hi I am a mom of 3 children, 1 a special needs child. I work as a nurse assistant but it only covers about half of our needs. I work hard and do my best every day and try to keep a smile and a good attitude but sometimes your best just isn't good enough. My special needs baby is 8 years old and is speech impaired, deaf in one ear, severely asthmatic, and has ADHD. Medicaid pays for most of the meds and specialists but not all. I pay for some of his meds and specialists and then there's the gas to go to and from. All in all I'm spending about $800 per month that medicaid is refusing. I haven't been able to get an answer why as of yet. I've applied for social security for him but have been denied twice and now am awaiting a hearing which I am told could be anywhere between 18 and 21 months just to get a hearing date. I only make about $1500 per month so simple things like even a trip to the laundromat is a challenge. Apart from my son's problems I also have 2 baby girls aged 9 and 6 to take care of. Thanks be to God they are healthy. All of my family has passed away due to various forms of cancer so it's just my children and my husband and self. He is out of a job presently and has been seeking work since being laid off from his last job (about 7 months). I have applied for a pell grant and registered for LPN classes at the local community college to try to help myself but it will take about 15 months to finish school let alone get a job. I've managed to pay rent but am 2 months behind on the internet bill (used for school) am 5 months behind in car payments and am at risk of a repo any day. If I lose my car then how am I going to be able to go to work, school, take the kids to school, take the kids to the doctor, grocery shop, do laundry, or anything else? I currently do not have auto insurance because I can't afford it.(was cancelled for nonpayment 2 days ago.) I managed to pay my water and cell(about $100) to keep that going. I am almost a month behind on my electricity but have managed to keep it going by paying about half the bill per month. As of now, I have a balance of $150. I don't know what to do. If anyone would please help us I would be forever grateful and appreciative.

desperately seeking money for last semester of college

Posted by journey22 on 2012-04-27 18:58:46

I am desperately seeking some kind of financial help for my son. He is a senior in college and he/we have exausted all means to pay for his last semester. when he first started in 2008, we tried to pay for his tuition but it was taking everything we had. Eventually i filed for bankruptcy which entitled him to get more financial aid money. Now in 2012 he has one more semester to go which will include his internship and one class. We found out that he is not entitled to anymore student loans under a bachelor's degree program. He is not eligible for Pell because our income is just a little over the alloted amount. We have exausted all other means. He needs $2800 to pay for his last semester. The money needs to be paid by May 21,2012. I am trying everything possible to get this money. We were depending on some funds from a WIA program but found out only 2 days ago that was not going to pay. Now with May 21 being only 3 weeks away, we have no idea where the money will come from. My son is 22 years old and will be the first out of my family to recieve a bachelor's degree. He is the youngest of my mothers 9 grandchildren and the only one who will have a degree. He has been trying to find a job and was only able to find a job through a temp service that lasted only about 3 months. If you are not able to donate and know of any other funds available please pass it on to us. Any amount that anyone can or will donate will be appreciated and i am sure you will get a blessing.

Bad times

Hi, my name is Marcy. I am currently a student, enrolled with FAFSA (Pell Grant) to afford schooling. My mom and I share a car, and our house. My mom is a realtor, and we all know how the housing market is doing. We barely make ends meet sometimes, and her realtor fees are astronomical. My dad passed in 2008, left a little for us, but not enough to keep going sometimes. When Mom does have a closing, she usually has a lot she has to pay for. So I am asking those that are giving and can give, to help me out a little. Not much, but just a little so I can help Mom with bills and such. I would get a job, but schooling is all I can handle at the time. Thank you!

money for school

I am a single nurse ready to go back to get my Family Nurse Practitioner Degree. The only problem is that I used up all my financial aid and Pell money when I was in school the first time and I only have enough to go to school and live for one semester and I need to go 4 semesters to get my degree. The cost is $10,000 per semester so I am looking for $40,000 total. I will work in any rural area when I am finished to pay off loans. I will work on weekends while in school. I will be in the Savannah area. Please help!

Help Send Me to College

Posted by Laain on 2012-02-04 22:58:59

The college I want to go to is pretty much my dream college! It’s so
awesome! It has the best Vet program in my state if not the only
program in my state. It’s most likely the only college that offers
actual vet Med and not just the per-requirements in my state. Their vet
program is what first got me interested in my sophomore year of college.
I got to looking at it and it became the school I most wanted to go to.
It just seems like a really good fit for me. I would really really love
to go here! It has everything I would need. i cannot for the life of me
find another college I would rather go to, but even if I did I would
still need to do this to raise money for my college fund because as you
all know tuition prices are rising every year and it’s getting more and
more expensive to go. I’m 22 now and would really like to get started on
my college career. I’ve been to community college with the help of a
pell grant, but that just isn’t going to cut it. I really have to go to a
university to further my career. I don’t want to be waiting around too terribly long to be
graduating college or even really getting started good. It would mean
the world to me to get to go to college sometime in the near future. My
mental health also rides on going. I’m depressed because I’m not going
and I see what others in my high school graduating class have
accomplished and well it depresses me too because I’m no where near
getting close to getting a job in my field of study. Where as they have
finished school and working in their field or is in the internship
phase. Either way I’m ready to get started on truly accomplishing my
dreams and getting a career. I do not want to end up like my parents and
grandparents and have no college degree even though I want one. I want
to do something they didn’t and what they told me to do if I could and
If I wanted too. If you click the links you can help me get closer to
this goal well dream really.

Well anyway the cost of the college is $25,000 a year, but this doesn’t
include professional costs which will be closer to $40,000 for Vet Med.
Though I’m only looking to get $25,000 for right now. I’ll just want to at least get to go for one year.

Tuition and fees for year are $8,698, Books and Supplies
would be around $1,100, Room and Board will be around $9,992, Other that
they charge will be around $5,166. I should get a pell grant, but I’m
not sure I may not but that will most likely only pay $2,000 if I’m lucky $3,000. I’ve applied to scholarships, but I don’t stand out so I’ll be lucky to even get one if that. With my luck I won’t get one. So I’ll still need a good bit.

So as you can see it will be very
expensive. I will greatly appreciate anything you donate to help me
afford to go to college. I know I most likely won’t get the amount I’m
going for, but I hope to
get most and try to keep from having to take out huge loans.

I don’t to have a huge debt coming out of college if I can help it.

Just one dollar will help.

The college I’m planning on going to is Auburn University and I have been accepted.

Need money for College

Last semester (Fall 2011) I was given a Pell Grant for the amount of $2,775. Last week, I called my school to make sure my loan was covered for the spring semester which starts soon. I was told that I was mistakenly given the Pell Grant that I received last semester. My school did not notify me of this mistake until I called them. Now, they are telling me I need to pay back the grant money which I do not have. I have this semester and next fall semester until I graduate. I have no job and would not qualify for a loan. I need to pay this money back, so I can go back to school. They added the $2,775 to my bill for spring and now I have a hold on my account because the bill is later. Please someone help me.

Desperate for tuition money!

Yes, I am begging, I don't want to but i need to humble myself. I have 15 credits so far and a 4.0 GPA. I am working on another 3 credits, but I am short 311.00 to finish paying for it. I also had to drop my next class, because i do not have the money. I left a full time job when my husband transferred back to his hometown. I have not been able to get employment. We had to file chapter 13 (have to pay his child support), so I can not get a loan. Stafford loans do not cover it all, and I did not get a pell grant. The course I gave up costs 1242.00 for 3 credits, plus books. I am trying so hard! Please help if you can. Thank You!

Not much to tell here...my husband of 15 years left me and moved out-of-state. I couldn't afford a lawyer, and had no recourse. I'm currently working TWO part-time housekeeping jobs and searching for a third, but my hours are not enough keep up with my bills, which are only rent, phone, electricity, and gas.

I recently applied for a Pell Grant, since I want to learn a skill that will help me keep a roof over my head, but in the meantime my power is about to be shut off, I have little gas to get to my jobs and back, and my cats are going hungry because food stamps don't cover cat food.

I know there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, but right now, it's pretty darn difficult to see that light. 8(

The Grasshopper and the Ant
A Classic retold by Joseph the Beggar King
Part One

Once upon a time, not so very long ago, there were two friends, the Grasshopper and the Ant. Why these two became friends is a bit of a mystery. The Grasshopper was a dreamer and a drifter. The Ant was a believer and an achiever.

In school the Grasshopper would look out the window without thought and only learned the subjects he found interesting. Sometimes he would fall asleep in Math class, other times when a angry teacher would jump him with a pop question he would give the correct answer in way that would confound them.

The Ant was a teachers dream, he soaked up every subject the system taught him, gave the correct answers in the correct way and got straight A s. He would delight his Math teacher by doing compound interest in his head. The Ant believed that what they taught him would help him succeed and was very completive. After graduating High School the Ant got an Academic Scholarship and the Grasshopper got a Pell Grant.

Within four years the Ant got two BS degrees in Business Management and Engineering. The Grasshopper dropped out after the first year. He went to live with the Rainbow Tribe for a few years. On the way to the bus station he found an old fiddle in a trash pile along the road and when he got station he was able to panhandle his bus fare. That was the Grasshoppers first beg.

The Ant took the College like a fish to water. During open Rush some Greeks invite him to be a brother in their Fraternity. He earned his dues by being the Frat Houses Accountant and made beer money by writing term papers. One day while visiting the Tri Deltas he watches the girls play volleyball and is amazed that even though they are playing a vigorous game not one of them breaks a sweat. It is there he meets the girl of his dreams, Polly Fishbane.

While the Grasshopper was living with the Rainbow Tribe he never meets the girl of his dreams, but it does not really matter too much because they believe in Free Love. So free, in fact, that after what you might call the Honeymoon he found himself getting a little bored with it. From the Rainbow Tribe he learns to live off the fat of country and from his new friend, Buffalo with Runs, he learns to live off the land. Buffalo with Runs was an very old Indian that was adopted by the tribe. He taught the Grasshopper what wild plants were safe to eat or use for medicines. He showed him how to set traps and hunt small game. Then, during one winter Gathering four people froze to dead because they were too stoned to come in out of the cold. The Grasshopper became very sad and hopped away.

The Ant is recruited by a Aerospace firm even before he graduated college and goes to work on the Apollo Program. He and his new wife Polly loved the Florida sunshine and settle down to start the American Dream. They decide to have two and half children. Even though the third kid looked a bit odd the Ant loved him as only a father can. With easy money down and mortgage tax deductions compliments of Uncle Sam, they get a house with a two car garage. Next they get two cars and the Rat Race is on. The Ant loves it! Working on the Apollo Program is more than a job, it is being part of history. Polly loves it! Raising their kids and Keeping up of with the Jones. She starts selling Avon products on the side. The Ant buys the best bass boat in the neighborhood, but only uses it once a year because he too busy working. He sets up his retirement funds and a small stock portfolio. Life is Good!

After leaving the Rainbow Tribe the Grasshopper panhandles his way across the country. He sets up in parks and subways where he pretends to play his fiddle while selling jewelry made of deer anthers and beads. The noise he makes with his fiddle sounds like a cat being killed and people give him money just to make him stop. Before the Cops run him off, the Grasshopper usually made enough in one day of begging to cover his needs for the week. When he is hungry he goes to a Soup Kitchen and when he needs clothing there are the Sharing Centers. Every now and then he lets some good hearted woman try to save him. Life is Good and he hops away.

The Apollo Program ends and the new Shuttle program does not start for a couple of years. The Aerospace company were the Ant works at does not win any of the new bids. They offer him a job in California at 20% less of his salary. Polly and the kids are in a rage. Nobody wants to move and leave their friends. The Ant sells his house at a loss because the real estate market in flooded by the laid offs. The one car and the boat are reprocessed. He sells off his stock portfolio for the down payment on the new house in California and even though money is tight the Ant decides to take the family on a short vacation to Key West to uplift their spirits. He finds the Grasshopper selling deer antler jewelry at the Front Street Market. While Polly and the kids go shopping, he and Grasshopper catch up and have a couple of beers. The Ant tells his friend about the laid offs and the move. The Grasshopper asks him - Are you Happy - ? The Ant says - Yes -. His friend says, - Good - . They watch the sunset and see a green flash on the horizon.
To be continue.

Anything would be so greatly appreciated.

I am 19 years old and I am currently 6 months pregnant with my first child, I am full-time student thanks to the Pell Grant and I hope to one day become a nurse. I am unemployed and have no support, I eat maybe two meals a day, and have been moving from place to place. I am truly miserable I know that I have put myself in this predicament but I need help getting out. I can barely afford gas to get to and from school which is less than a mile away, other than that I sit on a sofa all day looking for jobs on the internet, and applying but knowing that with a giant belly and only three months til delivery no one wants to hire me! I forgot to mention I put quarters in my car for gas to get to doctors appointments and I was supposed to go back for the Diabetes test but can not get there, I am grateful to have a car, but it also has so many problems that I could never afford to fix. I still need books for school, gas to get there, maybe some food, for now and am terrified at the thought of also needing to find a place for me and baby to live. It is the worst feeling to feel disabled, dependent, and stuck because you have no money at all. All I can do is pray, it feels horrible to beg and stoop to this level, but I am truly stuck. I just want the best for my baby when she arrives!

Hi, my name is koko. I am trying to attend my previous university but I have no money. My mother filed me on her taxes this past april even though she didnt even financially support me for the yr 2010. I walked to my entire senior year of high school. She would sometimes withold my medication for my brain tumor. She would kicked me out one time because she didnt support my decision to go out of town to see my grandmother, needless to say, she makes/made so much money that I was only ONLY given a 200 dollar pell grant from the goverment which is nowhere near the amount of money I need for this semesters tuition and fees. I was able to take out subsized and unsubsidized loans but they only let me take out a small amount b/c my mothers income. My mom didnt support my decision to go to my university. She wont help me pay for my education and she is refusing to help me get a loan. She also didnt even give me any money from her tax return, or anything. Need Money for Out-of-State Tuition

Posted by alextraxinger on 2011-01-22 15:58:58

I will be attending the University of Arizona in the fall, and since I am an out-of-state resident, the tuition is very high (expenses are reported to be between $24,000 and $34,000). I have filled out my FAFSA, and am only getting $3800 from the Pell Grant. Please help! I don't want to graduate in debt.

College student in need. Trying to make a future for myself.

Posted by LMarie on 2010-12-18 12:58:58

Hi everyone. It feels so sad for me to be here, but I almost have no other choice.

My name is Marie. I'm 19 years old. I live in Puerto Rico. Today I'm at my second year of college. It's being a real struggle for me. My mother is a teacher, so I don't qualify for federal aid like the pell grant. Yet she doesn't make enough money to pay for my college expenses. She works at school all day and tutors some kids in the evening.

y tuition is about 2,000 dollars a trimester. That is about 8,000 a year. I have taken 2 student loans and my mom has helped me with the rest.

I don't have a car and there is no real public transportation system here. So when i try to looks for jobs that I can go walking, employers say i don't have enough experience.

I'm studying a bachelor in graphic design. I had find freelance jobs where i would work for less than 3 dollars an hour designing flyers and bruchures. I did them with free software and the employers computers. Slowly i gained enough money for a laptop. And then 2 weeks ago it was stolen from my small apartment.

I usually go by 1 meal a day, mostly junk food cause it's the cheaper i can get. I have 4 jeans in my closet, 6 shirts and 2 pairs of shoes. I don't have a celphone for emergencies and I live alone in a small apartment near the campus that pays like 300 dollars a month. My mom is at home 2 hours away.

I'm too young to get a credit card here. I must be 21 to qualify. And my mom has bad credit so I can't afford my new computer. If i had my own computer i could do more graphic design freelance jobs at least enough to eat.

Now my brother is out of highschool and my mom can't pay for his education because of me. That makes me feel so bad.

My dream is to make an honest living and be successful in the future, so I can give back to those in my position. I want to work and be productive but without an education or experience it is impossible to get a job.

Please help me make a better life for my kids

I am a single mom, boy 3 & girl 18 months, who is working full time and going to school full time.
Between my pay check and my Pell Grant I am still coming up a little short for basic needs for my family. As is I have no money for Christmas for my kids and will not have enough funds to get to school and still live in a home.

Please help me make a better life for my kids.

electricity and etc..

I am 36 years old Deaf mom of 3 preteens 11, 10, 10. Two of my kids have adhd.I work with my kids on daily basis to help them improve themselves and learn to handle their adhd issues, it can get very tiring after kids don't listen or get in trouble when it is easy not to get in trouble in first place. I had decided to install fake dummy cam to fool the kids to stop kids sneaking around or go in kitchen in middle of night to snack or drink. It worked great til my son decided to cut the wire which he thought was connected to dummy cam which happened to be wireless, he cut two wires up on the roof on a/c and heating unit. That caused my electricity bill to hit the roof at almost 500 a month, and now heating don't work due to the cut wire. I live in rental house. Wish could buy my own home but that has to wait, the landlord has not fixed anything in this house which made it more diffcult. I bought three heating oscialating fan for my kids so their bedroom stay warm during cold nights. this month, I couldn't pay electricity when one of my kid stole around 200 dollars beginning of month. I pay for food as my kids are growing into teens, they needed lot of food so i had to make a choice. it would be awesome if able help out. I wanted to go back to college to do medical billing/coding but that cost $2500 to get certifcate and to be able get the job, pell grants and education loans denied due to my one education loan which i did graduate in 2006 in pyschology but wasn't able to get job in that field as most companies changed policy now requiring Masters. the job i got laid off was techinal support for communication equipments and I was also a computer hardware tech which i did build custom made computers and i do clean up and fix computer (virus removal and such).
let me know if can assist in anyway, thank you very much.

My name is Melissa O'Bryan, I am married with 3 children and I just graduated with my Associate of Arts. I applied to Dental Hygiene school and was accepted it is a 2 year program. I will be taking 18 hours which is well over a full load. My husband is working 2 jobs. I have to drive over an hour everyday to class and I will not be working and the student loans and pell grant I recieved were just enough to cover my tuition and books. I am asking for any amount that anyone can donate. I am trying to make something out of my life and am tired of living from paycheck to paycheck. I need approximately $8,000 in order to help pay our bills and gas to go to school. I am doing everything I can to raise money. We are having a yard sale this weekend and a car wash next weekend. If anyone has extra and can help it would be greatly appreciated. My paypal address is melobryan@yahoo.com
