Musician / Songwriter Needs Your Help- Will Give Something Back!

Posted by bingobrown on 2012-04-22 17:58:39

Hello,

I am a UK-based songwriter and musician and am struggling badly to support a family with partner and 2 kids. I have become overwhelmed with debt, bills to pay etc. I am basically drowning. Although I have a part-time job, it doesn't pay much (the job is all I could get) it's still proving very difficult to make ends meet and the trend is dispiritingly downhill. I'd like to propose a genuine offer to hopefully encourage some donations:- I have made several solo albums of my songs, which are available on iTunes. My proposal is that for anyone who donates some money to me via Paypal, I will reply to your email address with a link which will enable you to download an album of ten songs in return, for whatever you can afford to donate. I would really appreciate any help and will be glad to give something in return. It's basically all I have to give! Thank you so much

Young couple in love. Out of options. Completely exasperated. Scared.

I moved in with my girlfriend 2 months ago. I left Boston to come be with her in NYC. My work had run dry until April. She had just been evicted from her apartment by a slumlord landlord who stole her belongings. We were living from paycheck to paycheck. Supporting each other as best we could. We didn't have enough money to get an apartment of our own, so we got a one month sublet, which ended up being a nightmare-living in a closet with our 2 cats, and dealing with the scum of the earth roommates who made us feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, and awful. During that first Monty, we spent our savings just living. We both work in the creative fields, myself a musician, an she an actress. Work was spotty at best. We borrowed money from friends and family, feeling terrible about ourselves every time. Mid-month, I decided to file for unemployment. (something i had never thought I'd ever do)
The money we were expecting from that would have paid her union dues, giving her a pay bump by about 400%. This would have enabled us to not only survive, but get on our feet and pay back our friends/family. About a week and a half after filing, my boss calls me and tells me I can't file, or he'll go out of business due to the fact he's never paid insurance on his employees. He convinced me he'd cover my unemployment pay (totaling $4,343) if I agreed to recind my claim, thus saving him tens of thousands of dollars in back-taxes. I agreed. As soon as I'd done that- he tells me his lawyer advised him not to do that, and that he never agreed to that in the first place.
I have now been playing phone tag with my unemployment agent for weeks trying to restart the claim, and have the state go after him for the money he owes them.
Meanwhile, at the end of January, we had to move again. We couldn't find a place in time, and ended up staying in a motel in Stamford for a night while we made appointments to see a few places. We awoke to the front desk and housekeeping ladies banging on our door, telling us we have to leave or they'll call the cops. We are still fighting Hotwire.com for charging us for that.
Luckily, we found a place that night. The expenses of having to move though, totaled over $500. (rental car, motel, storage)
The apartment we are in now is shared with 4 other people. It's a two bedroom. There are 3 people sleeping in the living room. There are cockroaches. We once again have to move out, by March 7th. We have applied for foodstamps. (they have yet to be approved)
This time around, we have no money to move with. Our resources have been tapped. We are out of options. Work is still spotty, and we have borrowed from everyone we know.
We have a week to come up with rent, cell phone bills, and moving expenses. Nevermind money for food to ear everyday. (as I type this, we are preparing to go out and sell some things for food money)
I have never been this scared in my life. I doubt that writing this is going to make a difference, but I have to try everything.

If anyone reading this wants a specific number that would get us out of this- its $5,000. Here's the breakdown:
$1,000 rent. (not counting a deposit)
$1760 my girlfriends union dues (which means she makes enough to get us on our feet)
$175 storage fee
$250 cell phone bills (it's a month late, an we're on the same plan)
$130 car rental to get our stuff out of the apartment
$40 rental car gas (they charge $9 a gallon if you don't fill the tank when you return the vehicle)
$1,000 for food for the two of us and cats' supplies. (food, litter)
And the rest would be to pay back some of the people who've already been there for us helping us along the way.

Please. Please help. We are a young couple in love. Scared. Trapped. Out of options.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you will find it in your heart to consider helping us.

Musician: lost job(of over 5 years) now amp needs replacing

Posted by MisfitsTimmy on 2012-01-02 21:58:00

I lost my job in July 2011 that I had for over 5 years and haven't been able to find work. I'm basically a freelance musician until I find something. I play guitar in a band that plays for money. However, my guitar amp just decided to fry. I am looking for donations totalling $500 to buy a new amp so I can continue making music and work with my bandmates towards our dream of being full time musicians. This is my livelihood right now. I need this to continue making music. Check out our music at reverbnation.com/creeplist

Help with rent while I study Bible, write music

Posted by ssmcmahon on 2011-11-03 19:58:09

Hello everyone -
I've recently moved to Brooklyn where I intend to create a music ministry and fellowship community from scratch.

Most of my time for the next few months will be devoted to Bible study, sermon/theological writing, and composing worship music. I have not yet found music students, so I am asking for help to pay my rent while I do this work. Consider it a contribution to a good cause, or just help for a struggling musician/writer. Thank you all.

I have an 18-year old daughter, busy with her final exams in order to go to university next year. She is very talented and gifted in playing piano and saxophone. She would like to become a professional musician. As I don`t have the money to send her to university, it will be unfair to witheld her the opportunity. If anyone is interested in donating something, it will be appreciated, and upon request, I will let you have her CV. If possible, and you have a list of friends or a list of companies to which you can forward our NEED, we will appreciate it as well - maybe someone will help.

Funds for University

My daughter is Shimonè, and is very talented and gifted in playing piano and saxophone. She would like to go to university next year, but unfortunately my application for a loan failed and therefor she won`t be able to fullfill her dream in becoming a professional musician. I did not tell of the rejected application yet, as it will make her very sad in knowing that she won`t be able to attend university.

This is a situation I did not expect, and I know further that I cannot blame other people for my problems, but please, help getting my child to university. Any donation will help.

Thank you very much.

I'm a 30 year old new orleans musician, married to fats domino's former drummer, with a 2 year old son. Fats is no longer performing and my husband has been unable to find work, even pushing baskets at walmart, due to his age and lack of ged or work experience besides drummer. I was working full time but became disabled due to spinal injuries. I just was denied disability and am appealing, but was told today this will take at least 6 -12 months for a hearing date. Our water will be disconnected on my husbands birthday, friday. We have no way to pay our october rent and will lose evrrything if we are evicted. Family has helped as much as they can, but are in debt themselves. Our rent is $625. If you can help at all, we'd greatly appreciate it and can offer an autographed pic of fats. Thanks for reading.

Aspiring Artist

Posted by Aspiringartist on 2011-01-28 20:58:58

So I'm not going to sit here and lie about having daunting heart problems or am homeless. I'm just a normal 16 year old who lives in the suburbs and needs a new guitar. It's been my dream since I was about seven years old to be a musician. I have simply run out of money to take lessons. After I've divulged so far into learning how and what music it is, I've come to appreciate it like none other. I just can't afford to chase the dream. A spontaneous gift would touch my heart and put the gift of music back into my hands :) Even if you can't afford to donate anything I appreciate your time you have taken to read this. Theirs alot of people in this world who are more fortunate then others. Even if you decide to donate to someone else, you really can better someones life with the click of a button :)

I was in a bad accident and ended up in the hospital for 2 months. I broke my back, 5 ribs, my pelvis, punctured and collapsed a lung, ruptured my spleen, damaged my spinal cord. First I was not supposed to live, then I was supposed to come home a paraplegic, but my spinal cord healed up close to normal and with determination and a baby at home I fought back. I came home with a walker, in a body cast with a fused spine and metal rods in my back. I was that way for a year, then the day I went back into the hospital to get my rods out my 10 year old broke his arm in two places. He was traumatized when I went away the first time then again with him being in so much pain I had to leave him again. Finally got the rods removed with another week in the hospital, and came home again in a body cast for another year.
At the time I had a 9 month old baby to take care of and my 10 year old son. My husband stayed a year after it happened and finally left because he couldn't deal with it, I haven't seen him since. We had a rocky 14 year marriage anyway, but the accident was the breaking point. My 10 year old son took on so much responsibility after the accident and my baby barely had a mommy.
I have been trying to recover financially since this all happened. I have always held on to two jobs. I was delivering newspapers at night and restocking magazines in the grocery store during the day and delivering flowers part time. I was just starting to get my life back together. I got a credit card and financed a used car. I had lost most of my teeth due to being sick a lot from the migraines I have, so I had the rest of my teeth removed because of the pain. I was starting the process of getting a new set of teeth with implants to hold them in place.
Then last year I lost two jobs within a month of each other. It's hard to find jobs with the physical restrictions I have and now, it's hard to get a prospective employer to hire me. With the way I look with no teeth, just makes it harder. As if things can't get worse my doctor told me I have liver disease from the transfusions I received in my operations on my back.
My boys are so great. The oldest went from high school right to massage therapy school so he could make a living while going to the university. He graduated from the university and now is applying to medical school. It costs so much money just trying to get in. The application fees, the airfare to the interviews. I wish I could help him. My youngest is going to a culinary high school and wants to be a musician. If there is anything positive in my life it's them and the hope that they won't be like me and they will have a better life.
I filed for disability 5 times since the accident and finally last year I qualified to receive $795 a month and food stamps. I am looking for a legitimate on line income but it's hard to distinguish the scams.
I am trying to get a concession trailer so I can have a job again and get back on my feet. I ran an ice cream truck for 11 years so I have experience in running a concession business. I figured if I can't find a job, I'll make a job. I bought an old trailer for $600 and I am slowly re-building it. I just don't have enough money to get the rest of the equipment to finish it.
I need money for getting teeth so I can eat right to keep my health, and look better to find a job. I need money to finish the trailer so I can support my family again.
Please, if you can help with anything at all, it would help so much.
Thank You

DISABLED, DIVORCED, DEPRESSED MUSICIAN

Posted by elgato13 on 2010-07-12 07:58:58

I'm 43 yrs. old and cannot walk without the use of two canes. I have suffered damage to my knees and lower legs due to venous insufficiency caused by complications from a severe staph infection I contracted about three years ago.
During this same period I caught my wife cheating on me which led to a divorce and the loss of my job. I spiraled into a deep depression, became addicted to opiates, nicotine and food. I gained a lot of weight which severely complicated my illness and all aspects of my health.
I am finally slowly digging my way out of this deep hole. In the last year I have quit smoking, conquered my drug addiction, have healed about 95% from the staph infection and have made great strides in battling depression and losing weight. However, I am still currently disabled and subsisting on the meager $700/month our fine government believes is more than enough live on. I have been a musician most of my life and I'm now physically up to using that skill again to earn some extra money, but because of my illness I was forced to sell every last bit of my equipment and instruments to pay for my medical bills. I am asking not only for cash donations but I would also love to receive any donations of old guitars electric or acoustic, amplifiers, bass guitars (acoustic, electric or upright), mandolins, fiddles, harmonicas, keyboards, microphones, PA equipment, speakers, power amps, cables, eq's, compressors etc., mic stands, recording software, computers, anything I could use to play out or record a demo to get gigs. Of course cash is always best. At the moment I don't have a PayPal account, but I will remedy that shortly. Thank you for your consideration and prayers.

DISABLED, DIVORCED, DEPRESSED MUSICIAN

I'm 43 yrs. old and cannot walk without the use of two canes.
