Student Loan Debt, But Not Defeated Yet

Posted by English_Lover on 2011-10-01 12:58:44

In these hard times, you need more than just life experience to get ahead or even stay afloat. My problem began when I was working full-time at a non-profit agency. I enrolled in a university to finally get a degree and an opportunity for advancement. This of course seems like a good idea, but it didn't turn out that way.

Because I was working full-time I didn't qualify for financial aid so I relied on student loans. After just a single semester and despite getting excellent grades I realized I was getting in over my head financially and would not be able to afford this degree. At that point I was forced to quit my educational pursuit. I knew right away that loans weren't the way to go but without any savings it was the only choice and the advisor really didn't leave me feeling like I had any other options. I made a mistake by accepting the loans and I have been paying for it since then. Er...actually I haven't because I defaulted. Now I owe $4464.50 and climbing every day due to interest. I feel like a terrible failure for allowing this to happen, but I haven't given up.

I know at this stage of my life that a degree is not likely until or unless I can save some money and now working odd jobs and with costs climbing that just isn't possible. Since making this terrible mistake several years ago I found something I excel at which could help me earn a living, and I feel strongly that I can get accepted into the accredited program. The problem is that program costs $2500.00 which I do not have. It also requires a month-long stay in a major city which will cost roughly $900 and a plane ticket which I can surely save for if I should acquire the other funds.

All together I need roughly $8,000.00 to pay off my loan debt and obtain a Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) which would set me up to continue teaching English with credentials students can trust.

I take full responsibility for getting myself into this mess but that's not enough. I have to pay it back in order to fix my credit and start again. I am determined to succeed at the very demanding CELTA course and I will use the knowledge gained to help others succeed as well.

See my girlfriend

Posted by crazyinlove on 2011-09-25 17:58:50

I met the girl of my life while I was in another country. Now that I'm back in the US, and she's still in Europe, I cannot see her. We talk on skype all of the time and we always write emails. I always tell her how much I love her and how I dream about seeing her in person very often. She didn't used to dream about me, but she recently started! I'm a student and she is, too. We both study Spanish and we talk in Spanish when we speak, which I really like because It's neither one of our native languages. WE are in love, she feels the same way about me as I do for her. I really want to see her for Christmas but flights start at $800, half of which she will pay, which leaves $400 for me to pay. If you know what love feels like, you'll understand me. Thank you for your consideration. I'll even work for it if you have anything I can do.

Start Up Enrichment Center for Children

Posted by hlokitten on 2011-08-20 20:58:51

I'm 41, have 2 kids and very involved in my community in CA. Especially in my kids education. With education cuts, I'd like to start a viable enrichment center to further education for kids in languages, arts, sciences, music, etc.... Because of the financial downturn, my credit is shot and my family gets by month to month. To get started, I'd need $50,000 ... This is for space and needed start up equipment. Any amount you can afford to give, will add up! PLEASE help the kids in our communities get the education they deserve!

Do you believe in true love? I do, and I may always believe if bestowed the proper provisions.

She was the only thing that saved me from a life of crime and possibly worse, and she came all the way from Argentina to do so. I was, as I am now, a poor student in Colorado and a "lucky bum" who finally got a break by love finding him. Currently I study foreign language, ie; Spanish, French, German, Russian, and Latin. As impressively smart as one would assume i'd have to be to study so many languages at once, to the contrary I was terribly stupid where it matters most, which is at romance. In short because of being a total " fat -head" and ingrate, I let her get on a plane out of my life without saying goodbye. Its been over a year.

Since then, my nights have been like torture without her, and each new romantic fling has been as hollow and meaningless as the preceding. The good news is however, that her and I have keep frequent contact via SKYPE.COM video calls.(thank God 4 skype!) She is in the same position as I am, realizing that she too cannot find closure to our love, and therefore we have decided that we want to be together, except forever this time. So I decided to move to Buenos Aires, Argentina indefinitely to be with the only girl for me.

However it is not enough for me to just get a plane ticket and rush over to South America and live happily ever after, I will also need a job, as well as a room or a hostel to stay in while I job hunt. ( Quite frankly, I am not trying to be unemployed, broke, and living in her mother's house in S. America, no thanks!) Therefore I am also hoping to earn/receive enough money to enroll in a program called ITTO or (International Teachers Training Organization) in Guadalajara, Mexico to receive my license to teach English as a second language(TESL) before going to live in Buenos Aires.

Target date you ask? I am trying to get out of here by early september or october of 2011. As it stands I am basically homeless, out of school for vacation, (meaning no financial aid) and have been doing temporary labor jobs which barely keeps me fed on the weekly basis, let alone permit me to save money for the provisions necessary to go on this life altering journey to find the truth of true love.

All together, I estimate with the cost of a round trip ticket to Argentina ( round trip, because non- citizens are not permitted with one way tickets) as well as the cost of the fore mentioned ITTO course and travel to and from Mexico from Colorado, plus the survival money I will need once ( god willing) I arrived in B's A's, I stand in a financial need of about $5,000.00 or slightly more.

I realize there are people with more important matters that can use money, and I truly hope they receive charity just as I would like to. However this is a petition for those who understand what it is like to let the perfect one get away and could do little or nothing about it, like a child who drops their ice cream off the cone and sadly watches as it melts on the side walk. By donating to this cause, you can be the "adult" who walks up to that kid, fumbles in his pocket for some spare change to present that poor kid with a new ice cream that takes the tears from their eyes. She is my ice cream, and I don't want another flavor for my whole life. You can help make this possible, by aiding me with an airline ticket, or even check out the ITTO website and if you feel generous enough and pay the tuition of the program. I would be more than happy to correspond with each and every donor to update you on this story with letters and even pictures of what became of your generosity.

I'd like to thank any donors in advance, as well as any one who took the time to read my story and had it in their heart to give but wasn't able. Together we can prove that there is a such things as second chances at a good thing, chivalry is certainly not dead, and love stories aren't just for the story books, in fact...it can happen to you!

Thanks and warm regards,

James McDonald

Please Help With My Dream, I Promise to Give Back

I am a 19-year-old student of sociocultural anthropology who also has a strong interest in ecology and the environment. My life's dream is to one day start my own ecotourism company that employs local people in developing nations, encourages responsible and environmental-oriented travel, increases cultural awareness, and gives back to the community. In the past I've been lucky enough to participate in several overseas tours with such companies; I financed my most recent trip by working the night shift in the dairy and frozen foods department of a local supermarket for several months. However, the one nation that I have always dreamed of working in is Zambia: a landlocked nation in southern Africa brimming with diverse landscapes, breathtaking natural beauty, and friendly people. Unfortunately, poverty remains an ongoing problem in some rural parts of this nation. My ultimate goal when visiting Zambia is to communicate with some of the local people in their own languages (I've been studying Bemba and Nyanja) in an attempt to better understand the social, political and economic climate of Zambia, support local lodges, hostels and safari guides, and learn more firsthand about environmental issues in this beautiful and fascinating land. Of course I always prefer to work hard for such travel and research opportunities, and will be perfectly honest when I say that there are many people on this website who need cash donations for reasons far more vital than mine. For a student who is currently unable to find work, I am unsure of how I'd pay for a trip to Zambia at some point next winter. I will continue to search for work and strive towards once again earning the money myself, but if anyone wishes to supplement the costs of my travel with a very small donation, I will certainly be thankful! If I can find 2,000 people who can each give just 50 cents, I will be well on my way towards realizing this dream. Thank you for your time and support!

Need Ł100 to tie over to the next student loan

Posted by studentinneed on 2010-08-20 07:58:58

Hi there. I'm a 20 year old languages student in Cardiff, and have fallen on hard times during the summer. My part-time job was in the firing line for cutbacks and so have had to go into my overdraft which unfortunately won't last until September 27th, when my next loan comes through.

ÂŁ100 is needed just to get by and to importantly get back to Cardiff to start University Year 2.

Thankyou.

WILL YOU HELP ME AS I HELP OTHERS?

My name is Jacob.
I am a disabled U.S. Army veteran and also an ordained minister of the gospel. At seventy-two years old, I support my wife and myself on a small fixed Social Security Retirement income and 10% VA disability compensation. So you can see that money is not my strong suit at this time, But Faith Is.
In my lifetime I have seen and experienced much human suffering and lack, and I have also seen evidence that human lives and situations can be changed for the better by helping when, where, and how help is needed. Oftentimes money is the needed help.
I have developed the “Power in Giving” plan that will enable people to help and be helped one dollar at a time. It is based on Old and New Testament scriptures and Title 26 of the U.S. Code of Regulations. The plan teaches the biblical attitude toward the use and acquisition of wealth according to God’s word and the legality of tax free gift giving and receiving. This plan teaches how to plant a small monetary seed ($1.00) into the body of Christian believers and receive a return of several thousand dollars all via the internet. The seed planting program is called Spiritual Agriculture and emphasizes good stewardship over God’s resources.
I need money to initially fund this ministry and teaching. The money will be used to print and publish books and literature, and for website development and hosting. In line with GodÂ’s word I am asking for donations of any size. The teachings will be translated into other languages.
Your donation can be made via PayPal to ufia@juno.com. UFIA means United Faith In Action.
I thank you in advance for your shared concern, your prayers, and your donation. And I pray GodÂ’s continued blessings upon you.
