I am finally getting serious about paying off debt that includes a hefty student loan, credit cards, and medical bills from a serious car accident that I was in last year. Right now I am behind on my phone bill and barely making rent. I am in need of a 'hand up' rather than a 'hand out' in order to get moving with this plan. I am 57 yrs old and retired on disability. My roommate moved out and now I am stuck with everything. The electric company has informed me that I now need to switch the bill into my name BUT they are requiring a payment of $976.24 to do so; this includes a past due amount and a security deposit. I am a bit sad to be on this site, but I have no other way of coming up with this small amount of money to get by. I pride myself on limiting frivolous expenditures and working to get what I want. My small family includes my wife and my 19 month old son. I know that Im lucky in many ways because I still have them, but it seems as though everything has been falling apart over the past 6 months. I have always said there's work out there if you want it. I have been a roofer since I was 20 years old. I love roofing (believe it or not) 6 months ago I injured my back and found out I have a bulging disc.
