Was homeless in tent

Posted by crzeeace1 on 2012-05-04 19:58:15

A fire was caused by a kerosene heater, and I lost everything I had. All personal things like clothes, shoes and food are given here at places I can go to. Good thing is with the 15% burn on my arm, I am receiving Section-8 housing. just need a little to help stock up non-food daily items. There is also the medical bills. The VA paid the majority, because the one here could not accomodate for 2nd and 3d degree burns. Anyway...this is a shot in the dark for me. All will be appreciated, ever so much.

saving for furniture

Posted by supernurse on 2012-02-03 16:58:53

I finally moved into my flat last year after being homeless. Only this winter I found out the flat has a huge damp and mould problem. The local council are taking ages to fix the problem, it has left a lot of furniture ruined and I have had to take up carpets due to them being wet and smelling. To make matters worse I also have no heating and can only afford to switch on a small electric heater for a couple of hours a day. I work hard as a nurse, but my money doesn't go far enough to buy new or used furniture. I am desperately trying to save, any donations no matter how small, will be grateful! Thank you xx

Hello .I am not going to beat around the bush . I am 55 a single dad . Financially I am strapped at the moment . I am so broke I had to use the free program on here .The 9 year old son and I have been living in this old run down home ,wasn't much be we called it home . well my daughter came home after a nasty break up with he cheating husband . Well the house was so old and drafty that it was impossible for me to heat the house . That wasn't so bad for us but my grand baby my daughters son 9 months old it was impossible to live in . So i took what little money i did have and rented a house that has a heater and running water . This took everything I had saved , now I'm so broke it hurts . Thing is i have no money to buy Christmas gifts for my 9 year old or grand baby . I would like to get my grandson a snowsuit and warm clothing for the winter because he has none and his cloths he has is beginning to get small on him and are summer cloths ,he is growing like a weed . Then I have my 9 year old son . Is is a bit physically slow due to asthma unable to play the same games physical other kids play I would like to get him some cheap computer or note book . Though his physical condition poor his mental capacity is great an all A student . I am very proud of him .

I am not use to begging and usually a proud hard working man , but my age and the way the economy is going I tend to be falling behind trying to make ends meat . Anything would be deeply appreciated and am willing to pay you back as I get it or even if you can send winter clothing for a 9 month old or even a ten month old or bigger and any kind of used electronic notebook or computer would be great and make me and my kids very happy in these hard times . If you wish to send a gift my sons name the 9 year old is Timothy Grabitz and my grandsons name is Joey . My address is; 2115 Clark Street Detroit Mi ,48209

Would like to thank you all for reading and hope the best for all of you in life .

My home is turning two months behind as of the Dec.1.and they tell me payment needs to be made on one of the monthes before dec.10. I work a full time job and hold insurance for my children. I provide them with food but things are so bad I sold about everything I have to pay for my vehicle, and kids lunches, and exterminator. I can not sell the vehicle because I do not live on a bus line and the kids are in cardio club, and basketball.(Which the car payment is behind one month.) I have nothing for my children for christmas and keep on praying for a miricale but no answers yet. I recently went through a bed bug problem in my daughters room, that I think it came from school. I pay for childcare while I'm at my fulltime job and cant afford to get a part time job because daycare prices are so high and a pt job only pays so little. My heat is shut off and I am heating a house that is only 10 yrs old with a cerosian heater because I don't have the 278. to pay the old bill. This stinks. Please help me figure something out. I have an elementary school, middle school and a high schooler that is to young to get a job still.I feel like throwing my hands in the air and saying just take my kids to a warm home and put me in jail. I feel like I have let my children down. I am a devoted mother and super hard worker. ( Receiving Clerk) I have never been so low in my 38 years of life. Please help and pray if you believe in prayer. Thank you.FYI, I have asked the school for help and they say and so does states assistance I make to much money. but, they want the kids to have no transportation and no car insurance which in kentucky is manditory. and they tell me to move. Also tell me to drop health insurance on them for awhile.(Who would do that) My home payment is 855. a month cheapest none roach infested apt is 750 a month. Yes hundred dollar differnce but I have 10 years invested in the home. I know things will get easier if I could just get caught up. Anything will be apprecaited.

I am a single mom that just makes it each month. I have 3 kids at home and work hard o give them a place to live, food and clothing. I rent a house that is "as is". I did not know all the problems in the house when we moved in. We went through a summer in Las Vegas with no A/C and are facing a winter with no working heater. I had to pay over $700 to have a pipe fixed and now have a huge water bill because of it. I have to pay $262.58 by 6 pm tomorrow or we will lose our water. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. I cant believe I;m begging online. I expect no response to this, but view it as a place to vent. Good things just haven't happened to me for a long time. Here I go anyway... I am writing because I am in desperate need for help. I am a 35 year old single dad with a 9 year old daughter. Let me begin by explaining my situation. My former employer, in the building supply industry, went out of business a few years ago. The economy has not rebounded making building industry jobs scarce. I have since then put myself through schooling to become an emergency medical technician as I stand a chance at getting hired by my local fire department if the economy improves. I am aiming for a career change to get back into the work force. I had to change careers for economic as well as health reasons. Shortly after my company went out of business, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, a debilitating disease affecting the digestive tract. The disease caused me to lose 75 lbs (30% of my body mass) in 8 months. I have been proactive in drastically changing my diet and getting the proper medical care and medicine (Thank God for Medicaid).
Even with medical care, I am still sick every day but I am making the disease more manageable. I applied for disability and received a response back that my condition is indeed disabling, preventing me from working, but would resolve in a year. Hopefully it does, but it is classified as an incurable disease that leads to repeated surgeries in 75% of the patients diagnosed with the disease. On the flip side of that statistic is a growing hope that alternative therapies may work… but take time to custom tailor to the individual. They are also expensive and not covered by Medicaid or private sector insurance. I have spoken to a disability attorney who is ready to represent me if necessary. I am only seeking disability as my “Plan B” if all else fails. I want to become a productive member of society again. I do have a “Plan A”, but I have a LOT of obstacles ahead of me.
This has all had a devastating effect on my finances. Last summer my gas was turned off the day after my daughter’s heart surgery. The gas was turned back on based on medical necessity. As of this week, my gas is turned off again and LIHEAP cannot assist me. I can’t seem to ever have the “Timing” right to get assistance. My electric is also on the verge of being shut off. My home is in foreclosure but the bank has agreed to work with me if I can find employment fast. I have just received a job offer that I graciously accepted. I start in a week. Just before receiving the job offer, while biking with my daughter, I had a mini stroke which caused me to go unconscious while riding. I crashed, broke my ribs, clavicle, hurt my spine, bruised my brain and lung, received several stitches, etc.. I pray that my health stabilizes to allow me to work. My daughter lives with me in this house. I would like to save it from foreclosure mainly for her sake. It’s where she has grown up. It’s a few blocks from her school where I want to keep her. My adopted 9 year old daughter, who I love a lot, has a very difficult speech impediment and learning disability. She already has special education and speech therapy in place with professionals that have worked with her for many years and know her needs. It would be very difficult to have to move away and have to make her start over in another school. I love my daughter a lot and will do anything to provide for her a life that she deserves… with my own limited resources. I say all that to illustrate “in short” that I need help. I have asked relatives and friends for help throughout the year and they are “Tapped”. My church is also in the same situation. I have sold most of my possessions to afford my phone bill, auto insurance, and auto fuel. My daughter and I currently have Medicaid and SNAP food assistance.
My goals are to:
1) I need to rebuild my professional wardrobe. I have lost a lot of weight and consequently have been working on buying dress clothes for my new job. I am to wear solid black suits. I am a 44L with a 38” Waist and 34” Inseam. Size 14 Black oxford shoes. I will graciously accept presentable used items. I can buy 3 inexpensive nice black suits for $80 each. $50 for shoes.
2) I have to keep going to my doctors and maintain and improve my health. I have just been referred off for advanced level care. The travel expenses are going to be very high. I will have to stay overnight in a hotel somehow for some procedures.
3) I will have to afford to drive to work. I will have to keep myself insured and afford the initial cash outset for my first 2-3 weeks of work. I am traveling far to work and it will cost me about $125 a week in fuel. $60/ month in insurance.
4) I have to get my gas turned back on. I am looking at having to come up with an impossible $5000 to get it turned back on.
5) I just bought and installed an used electric water heater and dryer. I have no way as of yet to heat my house this winter.
6) I have to catch up on my $1500 electric bill. Hopefully I can do so or I will have to abandon my house and give up hope. I may have to move to a different state with different utility companies.
7) If I can accomplish the above goals in a short amount of time, I stand a very strong chance at getting my mortgage modified and staying in my home. I can then only have to worry about the basics of life in addition to my health and my daughter’s heart and special needs.
I am facing some tough challenges. I cannot do it on my own. I have nowhere to turn. I would appreciate any assistance or advice on where to go for assistance.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I appreciate your help.

Family Crisis

Posted by Cougar on 2011-08-29 19:58:07

Hello and thank you for reading my post and hopefully considering helping.
I am not asking for help for myself but rather for my daughter and her family.
My daughter is a single mother of 5(Two are her sisters but...) and helps take care of her disabled sister who suffers from frequent grand mal seisures. She also cares for her 9 yr. old Autistic son. She is unable to work because she is the sole care giver to her sister and Autistic son.
Problem: She and her family live in a 1970s dilapidated 3 bdrm mobile home. "The home has holes in the walls, the front and back door seals are bad so when it rains it as if it's raining inside! There is no insulation and due to electrical socket overload? She can only plug in one electric space heater to warm the home.
Please, I am not asking for myself and would not make this post if all other avenues had not been exausted. I am just trying to come up with enough money to help her get into a house that is in better shape. Her sisters',her sons' and her income is enough that they could pay $700.00 a month for rent as well as utilities. She currently pays: $650.00,Ren,$426.00 Electric, $70.00 water & trash/sewage, Cable & Internet through Cox is 160.00, household cleaning supplies and personal hygeine needs run about 70.00 per month for a total of $1436.00 (Not including Food). Her household Income is $1898.00
Sorry for being long winded but wanted to explain as fully as possible.
Thanks and God bless

Hi

I have never had to beg before in m life. I can't believe I have to resort to this tactic at the age of 55 years old. Exhausting all my savings.

Here is my story.. In April 2008 I was laid off my Shop Manager job for a construction company after 5 years employment.

Shortly after I was only able to secure a Desk Clerk job at a old run down former Holiday Inn, here in Salina, KS.with a room as part of the compensation. After 2 years of employment there they had a infestation of bed bugs and the owner wouldn't do anything about it and I was really ate up by them, didn't know why I had bites all over me until I visited the emergency room. Upon returning to work I asked the owner to pay the hospital emergency room bill of $380. He said he would but still hasn't done so after presenting the bill to him.

I was able to get $106. a week unemployment though which put me living out of my 1989 Jeep pickup that I had. I built a box on the back that I cared my positions and slept in a Wal-Mart parking lot. I put ads on craigslist for house painting and got very few jobs but once in a while I could get a room so I could clean up and get some relief from the heat that summer sometimes hitting 106 degrees.

Finally August 5,2010 I found a job at a Car Detail shop and was able to get a cheap motel room. This is hard work now for a 55 year old man, but I persisted even though finding out the owner was a drunk. I came in on pay day one day in September only to be fired because he didn't have the money to pay the help. Even after filing a complaint with the Kansas Labor board he has managed to avoid payment.

Then I meet a man that had an old house for sale that was willing to help me out and I was able to make a deal to buy the small home for $2500. , $500. and $100. a month till paid for. No gas , No electric, No Water, it was a wreck none the less a shelter for the winter coming up. I put a ad on craigslist to sell my truck so I could make the deal and within a week a couple had purchased my truck and I was able to make the down payment and moved the few things I had left in and make a bed. The neighbors were nice people and insisted on running a electric cord through the window so I would have lights and I had a little electric heater to stay warm.

I was still running the ad on craigslist for painting and through the grace of god got a pretty good painting job that netted me $1300. After waiting 4 weeks to get paid for that job ( the company said the check was buried under paperwork on his desk when I called the day before Thanksgiving wondering why I hadn't received the check) right..

Any way I paid the payments up till February 2011

In November the city heard I was living in the house with out electric, gas and water and sent me a notice and posted a notice to vacate the premises with in 30 days or be fined $500. I called them and said I was working on it and they gave me till December to have it up to code and inspected for $150 city fee. I didn't know what to do but kept applying for jobs and praying for someone to call and have some painting done. A friend of mine was a electrician and came over and told me what I need to pass the electric inspection. I called around and there was one company that would do all the inspection so I scheduled the inspections and passed the electric December 24 2011 and I called to have it turned on and they couldn't do it till the 26th, all gone for holiday. The gas line was a different story, the plumbing company spent two day correcting the problem and left me with a bill of $1400. that I have only been able to pay $40. on.

A 50 year old man I had made friends with Russ, while working the motel told me he had to quit work because he
was dying from hepatitis and didn't know what he was going to do, he had been homeless while I was for a while, so I told him he could move in 2nd week of February 2011, he was waiting on unemployment and should be coming in any time now, But the motel wouldn't let him stay with out paying.

He did get a good size unemployment back payment and 2 days before the utilities were to be disconnected we got the utilities and the house payment caught up.

Because of the unemployment he was getting SRS has cut off his and my food assistance and he has been denied disability and has to get a lawyer to handle it. I have been applying to every job and submitting my resume to every job online and in the local paper with not 1 interview. I do have a company that said they will call me as soon as they get some work themselves.

Russ my roommate will get to were they have to extract the water that builds up around his organs. The Dr said he has anywhere from 1-2 years to live and I would like to make him as comfortable as possible. I cook all the meals and take him to Dr appointments and to pick up his medication.

The gas is all ready going to be shut off this next week because we missed a payment on the cold weather agreement and now owe $689.35

I do have a PayPal account where you can send assistance it is edwardahopkinsjr@gmail.com Mail to: Ed Hopkins Jr 331 N 11th St. Salina, Kansas 67401 We still have a cell phone 785-201-2347 if you would like to call.

Thank you in advance for your generosity,

Ed & Russ

P.S. I belive in the Pay It Forward System and will help at least 3 other people if you help me. I did donate $1. to BegsList I had $2. in my PayPal account. But I can't afford the $9.95 for the spotlight ad.

Quickly losing the battle to keep a roof over my families heads

Posted by Nuitari1974 on 2011-06-01 03:58:15

I was layed off from my job of 6 years in 2005 due to budget cuts. In order to keep up with bills while I looked for a new job I started a computer repair business that managed to keep us afloat for a couple years, along with tapping my 401k. During this time the local economy took and even bigger hit and even with over a decade of experience I was unable to find sufficient work without a degree. As a result I decided to go back to school in 2009 to get my degree. With fiancial aid, the remainder of my 401k, money from the odd jobs I could find, and my wifes wages we managed to stay just ahead of our bills.

However in the last year the economy has gotten so bad that I was actually losing money repairing and building custom PC's, my wifes hours have been cut wo less than 10 hours a week, and any job that I have applied for I am not eligble for either because I am still finishing my degree so am under qualified, or because I am over qualified due to the schooling I have completed so far. (That's right I have been told I am overqualified to flip burgers at Mcdonalds, not sure how that works.)

Because of our reduced income we have been late on a number of bill payments for utilities and the house. I have sold my boat, my guns, and various electronics to get were we are and am to the point I have nothing of value left to sell. Aside from the monthly bills I have repair bills racking up on the house and our remaining vehicle.

The to top it off we got hit with a flood that took out our water heater, washer and dryer, and did significant damage to the rest of the basement.

Current bills include:
Cable $185
Cell $195
Mortgage $850
porperty taxes $200
food $600
gas $250
misc expenses for kids $200+ (8 year old daughter, 17 year old son)

repairs
replace water heater $1200
replace washer and dryer $500
engine and transmission work needed $2400
replace flooring and wall paneling $7500

Current monthly income
Wife: $600
Me: $800

Even with the financial aid and some other assistance we are almost $600 a month short just for the basic bills.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

help with stub-standard living conditions

Posted by jacy867 on 2011-05-13 20:58:57

I am medically disabled, and am able to squeak by on regular monthly expenses. But I am living in a 'fixer-upper' that has not been fixed.

1/2 of my flooring is ripped up due to mold. I can't replace it, so cracked concrete is what I have to walk on. The rest of the carpet is disgusting from what the prior owners did to it.

I cannot move, as my mortgage is really low.

It costs 10K to renovate one of these 30+ year old units (condo) (800 sq. feet) not including things like the A/C (also needs replacing) and the stove.

In the 6 years I have lived here I have managed to save enough to replace the water heater when it rusted out, and the disposal for the same reason.

Otherwise, if this were a rental unit and I had a landlord, he'd be a 'slum lord' as these are not proper living conditions for me and my precious dog.

Trying to avoid being homeless

Posted by Wingbiker on 2011-04-19 21:58:02

Hello,
I hope you can help, in Nov. of '07 I got injured in an accident and had to quit working for a while, and then in May of '09 my wife was diagnosed with melanoma/lymphoma cancer and had to have three surgeries. she then became disabled and we were able to get a little relief from SSI.
Even with that it was not enough but we were just barely getting by paying the electric and water bills, but not the rent, so I found a part time job (I am still looking for full time work)that helped a little, but still not enough.
Then in Oct of '10 we were told that she had about six months to live and things became really dismal for us as the bills kept piling up and her health was declining rapidly. We stopped trying to pay the medical bills and concentrated on just paying for her drugs for pain and suffering.
Then on Feb. 13th this year she passed away at the age of 49, a week and a day short of her birthday. That makes my situation even worse, by her passing, the cost of the cremation was close to $1200.00 and the SSI that we were getting stopped, leaving me with a mountain of unpaid bills and no full time work available in the area.
I have sold just about everything of any value to try and keep the water turned on, but I haven't had electricity since the first week of March. With my part time job and the odd jobs I do for my neighbors, when I can get them, I am able to keep some food in the house and some gas in the car, but with gas prices at almost $4.00 a gallon, I can't even get enough ahead to pay the deposit that the electric co. wants to turn the lights on.
So here I am, this is my situation, I am seriously in debt to the tune of about $85,000.00 in medical bills and back rent, my car is a P.O.S. but at least I can keep it running with a little bailing wire and bubblegum, the landlord is chomping at my heels for money that I don't have, cold showers really suck because the water heater is electric, and I am just about to my wits end, and I think I am too chicken to commit suicide to end my short term troubles with a long term solution. I really hope that there is someone out there that can help me out. May God bless you and keep you.
Thank You,
Steve
P.S. I would like to donate the $9.95 to showcase my story, but I can't afford that because my checking account is overdrawn by $425.75 for the last two months.
Thanks anyway,
Steve

DOWN ON LUCK BUT TOMORROW IS A NEW DAY(I HOPE)

Posted by oldsofty on 2011-02-08 13:58:58

I've been in a slump for a while but I hope to pull out of it soon. For now, I could use a little help. I've been out of work for several monthes(no unemployment benefit). I am behind on rent and utilities. My phone and internet are lifelines for finding work and they are in jeporady. My truck needs tires, shocks and a heater fan(not critical but it would be good to keep windows clear). The icing on the cake is a water pipe broke in the cold(35 below) so I need to fix that and some floor damage as well. There's more but
ENOUGH ALREADY. If you can spare a few dollars(or 1) it would be a big help and much appreciated. Good luck to all and hope for tomorrow.

My boyfriend and I are living in a tent! Need money to rent room!

Posted by violetskies on 2011-02-05 17:58:58

Things have gone just horribly for my boyfriend and I this winter. It has been an absolute NIGHTMARE so far.

FIRST, the truck we rely on for transportation to our jobs and school needed it's engine replaced due to a blown head gasket. When we put in the new engine (well..used, from a part's truck), it worked great, for a little while, then the transmission started... and we had to shift back and forth between drive and second gear on the highway....this didn't work out to our advantage for long and it now sits in a driveway of our friends uninsured and unregistered (we lost our jobs because of this!!!!! Paying for school AND the new engine took pretty much all of our money)... We both had to stop going to school... we could no longer pay our rent, so we moved into a tent in our friend's yard and other people who COULD pay moved into our home of 2 years... It's been only 3 months now...and has felt like TEN YEARS. I don't know what to do anymore. My boyfriend REFUSES to go to a shelter and I don't want to leave his side. We have a propane heater that keeps us warm and many layers of clothing. Occaisionally we are able to stay at friend's houses, but I just moved here so I don't really know many people. I feel like I am going to have a nervous breakdown sometimes. Some days I just cry and cry.. All this trouble because of our CAR and not having much money in the bank!!!!! Shows how quickly things can change!

PLEASE HELP! We will be forever appreciative!

Sincerely,

Sincerely,
Jennifer

Everything is going wrong at once.

My basement is filling up with water, (it put out the water heater pilot light yesterday) and the water is rising at a dramatic rate. We've had the roto rooter guys out three times and they said last time that we would probably have to replace the pipes going from the house out to the main line... that's gonna run a couple thousand at least.
On top of all this the car needs new shocks, struts, brakes, and rotors... as well as needing insurance so we can get new plates in november.
The bills are also piling up...
We are very low income... weekly income averages only $180 a week after a garnishment for a car that was repossessed ten years ago, and we just got a letter saying that the check is getting garnished again for old student loans...
I don't know how we're going to pay all this... I need to find at least $5000 to do all this at the very least... so that's why I'm turning to here.
I'm begging, literally begging, if someone out there could please help me.
I don't have paypal... my address is Herbert Dustman, 1207 Francis Ave, Muskegon, MI, 49442.
I would greatly appreciate any help I can get... whether it be money, services, or just advice how to do all this....
Thank you.

My wife has been out of work on disabiliy for (5) years.
I'm several months behind on our mortgage (+ owe back taxes) and recently was declined a government backed modification.
Over the last several months I've had to get my transmission repaired, replace my water heater and get my furnace fixed (not to mention the $1,000.00 we will have spent this year on oil)

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Thank you ...

I am so much more than a little embarrassed to be writing here, but I genuinely need some help. I am a very smart 58-year old woman who lost her job in 2006. Since then, I have exhausted my savings, my unemployment benefits and my 401K account while working at whatever jobs I could find.

I am unmarried and have no family to ask for help. My 86-year old father lives out of state, but I have to do for him as well as myself -- I am an only child, and we have no other relatives.

My rent is past due and I have no heat (I can't afford the cost of gas, so I am using a space heater). I am having to make the choice between electricity and food, but doing the best I can with what I have.

I am not disabled or illiterate. I am still trying to earn a living, and just don't have enough money. I need some help to make it a little further. Thank you for even considering my need. I can be reached at this email address: gmcfit@yahoo.com.
