I’m going to be a little blunt, because I'm tired and I want to give up so bad, but I can't. I'm better than that and my kids are my motivator. I am a 35 year old educated, ambitious, head strong woman. I have owned my own business with my soon to be ex. I know what hard work and determination are. I went to private school and I am educated. I value my community and have always given back and will continue to do so. I also know that I have the drive and determination to get myself back on track. I'm not ASKING for a handout, I'm asking for help up! I also know what loss is. I don't have the business, a house or EVEN the car anymore. We lost everything. He bounced back , I didn’t. All I have is HOPE, that someone or some program can help me carve a path back to self sufficiency.
It's gone continually downhill.I am amazed at the allotment of programs for both housing and employment for all different walks of life. However, what about those that are just struggling. No hang ups, no record, just struggling and are LOW INCOME. I'm not writing this to make you feel sorry, I'm writing this because I have exhausted possibilities that I have researched both on my own or been given the information to do the work with.
There are people who struggle everyday through no fault of their own. They don't want a hand out, but help up would be a relief. Society doesn't need band-aids they need solutions.
Not every county, city or state program fits everyone's needs.
First of all Section 8 has been closed since BEFORE I left my marriage so that idea could never work. The list has been closed for years. Because I have limited time with my children, I do not qualify for CALWORKS. I have tried getting assistance in every way possible. I had very little unemployment left since I have been struggling to find work. I was delayed for about 3 months because they needed verification and I had to appeal and request a hearing. I have won my appeal but will only receive $91/week and for a short period of time.
I took a project management class through WIA in 2011, and I was able to get CTB benefits. I NEED HELP. I have hit the absolute worst point in my life and still refuse to give up. I have been looking for work and am now HOMELESS.I am in week 3 of staying in an extended stay hotel (paid for by my mother back east, who makes maybe $26,000/yr in PA) I recently sold my car because I needed to pay bills and rent. I have maybe $75 to my name.
The fact that they say there are services for low income/ homeless is frustrating. I say this because there is no category for me. I'm not a drug addict or in recovery. I don't have a mental illness. I wasn't in prison, I don’t' even have a RECORD. I can proudly say I've never been arrested or even in the back of a cop car. I'm not a victim of domestic violence and I do not beat my kids. Why aren't there programs in place for single parents struggling to make it? Everyday people that are responsible and respectable. I understand the need to assist those that may not have the capacity to take care of themselves. However, I have a huge problem with the fact that Santa Clara County & all programs (private, govt or state funded) will rehabilitate and reintroduced felons into the community, but if you're poor, homeless, no record, are looking for work, have high intelligence; sorry, you can't get help. This sounds extremely cynical and jaded, but I am a little after going through all I have.
I have been told constantly “I wish I could do something but we don't have any programs to help you.” My favorite reply is: "Yeah and you have done everything. I'm surprised you even knew about all the programs you did"
I have talked to employment counselors, program coordinators, program advocates and case managers, volunteers, just about anyone. The bankruptcy is hindering my chances of securing housing, even if I had employment.

The icing on the cake has to be with food stamps and General Assistance. I qualified for Cal-Fresh. However, at the time I had a car worth $2200. So I wasn't able to get General Assistance. Fast Forward a year later, I HAD to sell my car to pay bills. Now this month when I went for General Assistance, I qualify.

It's a never ending cycle, a constant push down. I can take public transportation to work, but to get around and see my boys and being able to transport them would be extremely difficult, not to mention financially stressing. I have scoured employment books, read articles, searched the library, spent hours online trying to find a job, program, a company, anybody who could be a resource whether for low income assistance or employment.
I can probably tell you about a plethora of services this county (Santa Clara) offers for both income assistance and job services.I am registered with CALJOBS; I know all the career sites and have my resume there. I get interviews, however I am starting to think the bankruptcy from loss of business is holding me back when employers do background check.
I also could teach the business writing class or the resume writing classes they offer at Work2Future, I practically did when I took them. I could do the same at Sacred Heart. I've been to InnVision and EHC. I’ve talked to Sunnyvale Community Services. Boy he was a treat he sounded older then my 80 yr old grandma. When I said I need housing and employment help, he gruffly told me to check the newspaper and hung up. I've called St Josephs in Gilroy. I've talked to a program coordinator at West Valley Community Services. I called the Sobrato Organization hoping they had ties to something and one the employees just by grace of god happened to pick up and take my call. I was able to talk to someone at HIF (they couldn't help)

I am responsible, respectable and just want to work, have a place to live, and be able to have my children 50/50. I have no police record. I am not in recovery, nor have I ever had to be in a program
I want to work and am attaching a compilation of ALL my work skills. I would not send this out otherwise, I would tailor it specifically to the job I am applying for.

I used to volunteer as much as I could I like being active in my community and helping others. I'm still about that I believe in PAY IT FORWARD. I believe the good you do comes back to you tenfold and that no matter what is going wrong in your life, someone else is struggling just as much if not more; so be thankful for what you have.
I attend church and was a hospitality volunteer for that as well.
I just need help getting on my feet. I have no family, other than my children here in CA.
I do not want to move back east and be far away from them. I want to work, I want to live again. I want to smile and mean it.

I hate what my life has become and know that I am SO MUCH BETTER THEN THIS.
Please help me : money is fine, but it's only a temporary fix, please help me find a program that can assist me in getting on my feet, direct me to employment, and most of all afford me the opportunity to have my children much more consistently so I can be a mom again.

hi please help me since i left school age 16 iv been employed as a road worker im now 24 and have had in all that time 4 days off work total. I work 6 days a week 7.00 til 5.00 and i work to the best of my ability never causing trouble to make sure i can afford the important things like food rent heating and have never asked for a handout but just before xmas i started experiencing trouble with my breathing and get a bad cough. I couldnt afford to take time off work as i dont get sick pay and any medical visits our also none payable so i jsut fort through the trouble and it started to get better until last weekendf when my breathing trouble got a lot worse to the point that as my fiancce drove me to the hospital i was unable to talk and was close to passing out due to lack of oxygen on arrival i was russhed into a and e and into the medical assement unit where i remained for the next 4 hours i was then moved onto a ward and told that i had pnemonia and that i would be required to stay in hospital for 3 days and then would have to rest at home for a further 2 weeks meaning i would miss 15 days of work and 15 days of pay. Unfortunatly i work in a company where alot of workers would abuse the sick pay benefit so it got written out of our contracts years ago. i was never one to do this but if i wanted to keep my job i was forced to sign this contracrt now im worrying if i dnt go back to work now i wnt be able to afford rent food heating but also if i do go back i may make myself worse and end up back in hospital its catch 22 please if you can give anything i would be grateful. thanks you in advance

My name is Chis, I am 19 years old, and will be twenty on may eighteenth, and live in the town of Sharon Wisconsin. Within the last three years, I have filled out more than two hundred job applications. After all of that, I have only had success (extremely limited) with temp agencies. I have until June first to be steadily employed, or I will lose my home, my vehicles, and any possessions I don't walk out of the apartment with. I'm not looking for a handout, I'm looking for an opportunity. I will do any work for any pay.

To whom it may concern,

Stated Goal: $2,000.00 (by March 21st, 2012) for tuition, books and some new pants to get my academic career going... Breakdown of $1,288.33 for tuition/fees, approximately $400.00 in textbooks/supplies for the quarter, and the remainder for some pants and necessary travel expenditures for the first month of school.

I know you have many options with where your hard-earned money goes - some may make you feel GREAT about shedding a few pounds in the wallet, and others will leave you feeling downright dirty. I know this, because I was once in your shoes; money in my wallet, left only to my vices as to where to spend it. I never felt right about just handing it over to someone who, in my opinion, would merely go drink it away, drug it away, etc. It's funny how life throws these things all back into your face sometimes, and as such I find myself in need and hoping that the right person(s) will have the faith to invest in me - that's right, I said INVEST.

I don't believe in a handout, but I DO believe that sometimes we fall a bit harder than we are prepared to do and as such are put into situations that we neither expected nor are comfortable with. I opened a business that was going rather well for its first 7 months of operation. Then, through an anonymous post from someone online that "appeared" to be from my company, me and my business partner got black-balled from the industry (VERY political/bureaucratic in that particular industry). When this went under, though, it took me and everything I own with it - my vehicle, my home and much of my personal belongings. Prior to that, I spent 11 years on active duty military status in order to protect and serve this country. Yes, I've earned the G.I. Bill and fully intend to use it for its designed purpose. TheMy defining issue, however, is that the Bill pays for school on a month-to-month basis, at the END of each month of training. For example, my school begins this April 2nd so I cannot claim my benefits until the end of April, which will cause my first G.I. bill payment to get sent out in early May. The school, however, requires payment up-front and as explained above, I currently do not have the capital to get started. Once I've started, the Bill will sustain me, therefore I merely ask for assistance in getting the first quarter of classes paid, including books. I have a great academic history, and this is truly where I excel. My purpose is to some day acquire a PhD in pharmaceutics and do research to find new and improved medications for the benefit of the masses.

As for the pants, I have two pairs remaining and both have holes in the legs and crotch. While these DO technically work for all intents and purposes, it gets a bit breezy on these cold days and nights, and is probably unsightly (at best) to any of my would-be professors who may not appreciate an instructor's-eye-view of these things. As such, I figure I might like to buy a couple of pairs prior to matriculation.

I was denied unemployment benefits cause he lied about the job. I was offered a job (Im an LPN) @ the VA but they need my transcripts which I cant get cause I got behind and now owe the school 1800. I've applied at other places and they all want my transcripts which i cannot get without paying off my school. Sometimes you have to take 3 steps back in order to jump 4 ahead, correct? It seems as though I've been jumping backwards and have yet to come forward.

I've made certain decisions in my life that were for the best for me and my two sons. I knew that my financial situation would change once I divorced my husband, but I didn't think it will ever get this bad. I have always help my family friends and strangers in need of a place to stay, food, ride, money clothes ect. Well due to a move, divorce from an abuser and surgery, I thought things were looking up when I got my career moving for a non profit senior resident center, then after a year offered a great position in management for a nursing home but this is a rural community and I did my job well. Due to the economic environment I was let go and my old job already replaced me. Im on unemployment. If I can move to a bigger city, like near los angeles (I have a free place to stay) then I will never be without a job. Currently I volunteer my time with hospice and driving seniors to their doctor appts and errands. My car is old but paid for I need auto repairs in the amount of 2,000; dental work 800; Relocation expenses to move to California 6000; and a job masters degree in healthcare in san fernado valley California I have a paypal account or you can send the money directly to the vendors in kind to me. My dad is a retired veteran from Vietnam era, he works for above minimum wage and I live with him currently. He gets his retirement too but he needs a new fence for his house, I helped with all thee renovations but being unemployed I can offer the labor but the materials are about $2500.00 or $4500 installed he would never ask for a handout but he also needs extensive dental work and replace his implants front teeth from 40 years ago from accident his smile means everything to me. Hello everyone Im a 53 year old single mom in PA with two children, very amazing children. My daughter is 21 and works hard serving coffee and donuts, My son who is 19 years old does the same type of work, and also goes to college. I am disabled and at home, I have diabetes, no cartilage in my right knee, almost lost my life twice with two pulmonary embolisms. I am currently on warffrin for life along with other meds that are keeping me alive. I am stressing out because, being a mother, I am worried about my two kids, they work so hard, I cannot help them now, and I am feeling stressed about it, we all live together in public housing, and we are barely covering our bills. We are just getting by, and my wish is to help my children, I am not asking for a handout, I am just asking for a stay at home job I can do on the computer so they can spend more money on the things they need than having to chip in for the rent. My kids are really good kids doing the right thing, it is unfortunate that they have to live in these circumstances. their father, he lives in another state,and, well he feels his obligation is over, and is not helping them at all anymore. I am basically alone in finishing raising my children. I have typing skills, and good phone skills, I just cannot stand on my legs too long. Unfortunately I can't drive or own a car. My son has a car but it is not in the best of condition,he needs a new car so he can go to work and to school, and my daughter is getting married, she deserves a nice wedding, I want to help them both, and feel really stressed about it. My goal is to find a work at home job, so I can help them with their goals. These kids are my life. I want to see them happy because, that would make me happy. I could use someone's help out there. It is a hard position to be in right now for my 10 year old son Roy and me. My name is Nicole and I am a single parent of an awesome kid. Unfortunately, I am unable to pay our monthly bills due to being hospitalized and current recovery time. Although I am no longer in the hospital, I have been off work for over 2 months now and I have long run out of vacation leave with my employment. As one may imagine my income to support my family and to pay our bills as dwindled away and the bills have been juggled and are now stacked high. I am grateful to friends and family for donating Christmas dinner and regular groceries and toiletries which have eased some of our burdens.

I do not expect my medical issue to continue for too much longer. I am hoping to be back to work earning a regular bi-weekly paycheck soon. Unfortunately, we are set back big time on the bills and I have no way of catching up on my own. I do not receive child support because I would rather have my son safe that see any money from a kidnapper. I have spoken to the utility companies and they seem to have had enough of helping me by putting me on payment plans and pushing back due dates of the bills. ALL donated funds will go to paying the household bills. i.e. electricity, gas, phone, water, and I would like to be able to give my son Roy a happier Christmas.

Some extra info: Roy and I live in the great state of Kansas in the USA, we are not scammers, we are a legitimate family in need of help. Tax season is not a good time for me because in order to safe our home I had to file bankruptcy 2 Januaries ago to save our home, and I have been claiming 9 all year long in order to help supplement the $700 that comes out of my check every month that pays back the mortgage company among a few other creditors. Because of claiming 9 all year long, I see no tax return. I have NO credit cards, my car is paid off, the only dept that I have is from my bankruptcy and the money that has been owed to the utility companies. If we don't receive the kindness of others giving we will continue to be in a bad financial situation. I've been poor before and I know I will be okay, but my son, if I cant pay the bills he will have no heat, no water, small Christmas etc...

Roy is a trooper, he is a great son to have and I have always considered myself truly lucky to have him in my life, he tells me he feels the same. He understands that money is tight, we have had the "mommy doesn't have allot of money for Christmas" talk a couple of weeks ago, in which I cried and he was totally understanding and okay with it because "at least I have you" he said. No Joke, he actually said that to me! I am hoping that through this experience of asking for help, when this is said and done, that I can share with him the true gift of people giving and he and I will donate to others once we are back up on our feet.

I do wish there was a better way for you all to understand that this is a legitimate need, a financial emergency. My monthly bills are adding up to about $1400.00 which they are usually not that high but I owe some for last months bills too. If some of you reading this could donate any amount small or large, $1 goes a long way right now, I will truly appreciate it. I am making a donation goal of $2,000.00 which with luck and a prayer we will see half of that by Christmas time. $1,400 of it is for bills and most the rest is for Roy's Christmas and I have been sleeping on a broken bed for 6 years now so 200-300 of it will go to a new bed, but that's only if we make the total goal.

Just to get it straight, I am not looking for a handout, just a helping hand of strangers in a time of need when I had to learn to swallow my pride. It is a hard position to be in right now for my 10 year old son Roy and me. My name is Nicole and I am a single parent of an awesome kid. Unfortunately, I am unable to pay our monthly bills due to being hospitalized and current recovery time. Although I am no longer in the hospital, I have been off work for over 2 months now and I have long run out of vacation leave with my employment. As one may imagine my income to support my family and to pay our bills as dwindled away and the bills have been juggled and are now stacked high. I am grateful to friends and family for donating Christmas dinner and regular groceries and toiletries which have eased some of our burdens.

I do not expect my medical issue to continue for too much longer. I am hoping to be back to work earning a regular bi-weekly paycheck soon. Unfortunately, we are set back big time on the bills and I have no way of catching up on my own. I do not receive child support because I would rather have my son safe that see any money from a kidnapper. I have spoken to the utility companies and they seem to have had enough of helping me by putting me on payment plans and pushing back due dates of the bills. ALL donated funds will go to paying the household bills. i.e. electricity, gas, phone, water, and I would like to be able to give my son Roy a happier Christmas.
