6 months ago we responded to an ad on Craigslist. It was for property managers in Fl. We accepted the position sight unseen and in good faith. With my wifes health getting worse and having a hard time working. This seemed like a good thing. We took our savings and left for Florida. Well when we got there it turned out to be a scam. Lesson very well learned! We ended up in south Ga with her sister. I recently started a job that requires travel. our car is up for repossession due to our payments falling behind. I have tried to make payments when I started working and they said it was to late so I am using the car till they come and take it. We have financed 2 other cars with them and always on time. I wonder if the people that work in those places ever fell on hard times. I am not sure if that is the right thing but I honestly did try to catch up. When they take my car I will not be able to travel. This job is not very steady but it is work till I find another. I am looking for work in the Albany Ga area. If anyone from this area reads please consider me. I have a good work history and can provide a resume. I have posted many resumes and have responses from many scammers. The true definition of hell is not a lake of fire where you get stuck by devils with pitch forks and get all burned up and such ! Its holding a sign that says {got wife @ 3 kids} in the very very rural N.GA mountains. This is the true original birth place of the word REDNECK. Try to imagine dodging beer bottles, old ladies giving you the finger, people screaming get a job with so much force and volume that you would think they would strangle to death on their own vocal cords. My family and I are going through a challenging time. In October 2010 our car was repossessed and I began to walk to & from work 6 miles each day. I didn't much mind because whatever you have to do to make a legitimate living you do hands down. Unfortunately I developed high blood pressure. That coupled by a chronic pain condition caused me to resign from my job. I did not qualify for unemployment because i quit even though I explained I had no transportation and the job required field visits which I couldn't make without a car. My husband had been trying to find work for two years after his job literally closed overnight with no notice. In May of this year we figured things were looking up. We've borrowed from family members, sold our dryer, jewelry, handbags , etc to our local pawnsmart. My husband got a job in May only to be laid off in August because a coworker made a costly mistake that cost the company their contract with delta airlines. He went to apply for unemployment and was told he wouldn't qualify until october when dept labor begins to look at the april/may/june quarter. Then we received a notice that since he didn't have that many wages for that quarter he'll have to wait until november and reapply. We don't have a car or any, so each time we need to go to dol we walk the 8 mile trek there and back. We have no family in GA where we live and friends seem to exist when you are not in dire straits. We spoke to our leasing company and said we would be late with our October rent. we've contacted one social service agency at the beginning of the month. My husband was interviewed and approved by the worker who said her boss had to sign off on the paperwork. when my husband checked back week later, he was told do not come back to the office we'll receive an approval or denial in the mail. now we have nothing. We've had to ask our local library for toilet tissue, scrape change for soap which is used for both body, dishes and clothing. we are both college educated, no criminal history, hard working adults. To ask for help is really difficult. Our rent is 550 a month. Iam really scared that at any moment we are going to be evicted. A donation of any amount would be appreciated. I've been out of work since the 3rd wk of march 2007. I have a wife and 3 kids ages 12-14-15 {boy-girl-boy} theres no work in extreme N.GA at all and i have had my life threatened and dodged beer bottles on several accounts while holding an aweful humiliating sign ! Lost truck to title pawn, filed for disability, behind on rent, bills, kids need winter clothes and i really legitimately need help. I used to run a small corp. for the people that owned it and we went under with the construction crash. I been hanging in there for a long time with help and faith in the good lord. Its no picnic holding a will work for food sign in the heart of "REDNECK U.S.A" Just use your imagination and you will come close to understanding what i mean ! I'm afraid that our family bonds with one another are getting strained to the limits unless something happens soon. I've like millions of others got caught in the crosshairs of this economic decline. On top of that impact I was left to save my home when wife of 17 years left;within a year i got deathly ill and was at local hospital ICU a month and a rehab Hospital a 2nd month, both in Ga, A spinal infection precipitated 4 minor stokes which in turn cost me my fulltime employment as a college instructor. I had served in Viet Nam and returned injured only to lose benefits due my new found anti-war position.
Like everyone else i finally got SSI and very small disability stipend.
Now each month my country dream home becomes a smaller prison as I struggle against the foreclosure monster. My mortgage equals my SSI so electric bills, medical bills, car insurance. (1985 Nisson) get juggled if im well enough to earn extra.
It's a long story but they all are.
I have a couple of creative projects with potential but my fear and day to day struggle drain me. I ve written most of a unique stage play/rock musical working title "God died in 66". An investment in the work would be considered{was in 1969 Chicago cast of Hair,as well as movies such as LeoFrank on GPS tonite }.
I am however begging for your help at this point. $2000 will dig me out of this financial grave

We will be homeless August 31, 2011. There are 2 adults, including myself. We have a 12 year old special needs son which makes it difficult to get full time employment or any employment.

My husband has cancer and has a difficult time with every day living. And does not qualify for disability nor does our son qualify for Social Security. We don't qualify for TANF either only foodstamps.

We are flat broke, the last bit of our money, which was going to go for the rent and utilities was stolen.
If anyone could help us we would appreciate it. We both want to work but can't find work.

Please help us before we are out in the street. How do you tell a child who has Aspergers Syndrome he doesn't have a home any longer? It just breaks my heart this is our last few days here unless we get help with our rent and utilities.

We tried all the charities and churches, they are all out of funds right now.

Another sad update: my husband and son drove 600 miles to FL on Thursday and it was dreadful, the car was packed to the max. We have a small car it it was totally over loaded. What else was he to do? Our son has Aspergers, the only way he can survive a crisis such as this is is some sense of normalcy, meaning he needs his things, things that mean a lot to him even if they seem trivial to use they are not to him. So we loaded up the car with books, games, dvds, what have you.
Well, they get to my husband's mother's house in South FLA and instead of a loving welcome they get the worst from her. She is all over my husband and calling him all kinds of terrible things. She's down on her grandson, all over him. These 2 came 600 miles away and this is the welcome they got. Needless to say they are leaving FLA and returning to GA. Out of shear desperation. We will have to go into a shelter. We have no where to go. Noone has donated a dime to us. Just advice. Advice is nice but it doesn't pay the rent or utilities.

Does anyone even read these posts besides us who post them? I would love to hear from success stories that came from here. It would be a huge confidence boost. Rescent success stories within the last 6 months to a year.

My faith in God has increased within me, however my faith in humanity is failing.

We are no different than most of those also posting on here. Our needs are no more in demand. We all have a common bound, we are desperatly trying to keep our families together, through this crisis that seems to keep getting worse.

My cell phone is a pay-as-you-go, I only pay 25.00 a month for 300 mins, unlimited texting & net usage. 25.00 is an awesome deal if you have 25.00. I don't have it. So now I can't even talk with my husband to find out when he's coming to ATL (my service will be over September 7) or even post on here or check my paypal if some kind soul donated anything. We didn't really have it last month but we figured it was worth it, especially since we haven't had a pc for years. This is our only link to the internet - this and the library.
Some would say a cell phone is a luxury, not if you don't have a landline, we haven't had a landline in 2 years. Its become an absolute nessisity.

We don't smoke or drink, take illegal drugs or spend money on frivilous things. My clothes are beging to get shabby as are my shoes.

If anyone can donate a cell phone card of 25.00 it would be most welcome. I feel terrible asking but its my only link to my family in FL. Without it I have no phone. Forget the net I can live without it but not to be able to call my husband is terrible. its scary not having a phone.

My husband has a Safelink cell phone - a Welfare pay-as-you-go they only allow one per house hold. He gets a set amount of mins for free a month, you can chose to roll over your mins too on some of their plans. So mine is the only paid cell phone.

My husband is fighting for disability payments. He is paralyzed on the right side and unable to speak due to strokes. He has been to two hearings, but has yet to be approved. The judge keeps sending him back to doctors for more tests. My husband is unable to do any kind of work at all. Every day, I see his health getting worse. I don't know why the judge won't grant his disability benefits, but we won't give up. We are trying to get by on my small disabilty payments, but it is impossible to do so. I have serious back injuries and have had surgeries that left me in constant pain, so I am unable to work either. My husband worked his whole life as an auto mechanic and deserves his disability. Until he does, we need financial help. We are about to lose everything we have and we have no where to go if we lose our home.I am truly afraid my husband will die if he doesnt get approved soon, because he cannot get to the specialists or get the medications he needs because we cannot afford it and they tell us there are no programs to help him without disability. Hello my name is Lisa and I am asking for alittle help. I know my problems are nothing compared to some of you but to me they are big. After 5 years at the same company my husband was laid off. We lost our house and our truck. He is diligently looking for work and so am I. We are living off his unemployment and that takes care of our rent each week and we have alittle to buy groceries. We are living in an extended stay hotel. I never though I would be in this position to have to beg for anything. But here I am. We have a 1995 Toyota Avalon that barley runs. It needs a started and 2 tires and brakes. We just dont have any extra money and if we dont get it fixed we will not have any way of looking for a job. I'm a current undergrad student at the University of GA needing some extra money to help pay bills. Although Georgia's HOPE scholarship is paying my tuition, I am funding the rest of my education myself. I have taken out student loans, but with rent, utilities, books and various fees, my part-time job barely gives me enough money to get by. I have been unemployed for past year, living with friends until I exhausted friendships. I have decided to create my own job by starting a gluten free restaurant. During this year I discovered I was a celiac and looked into gluten free foods. Currently, restaurants offer very little for celiacs. I want to remedy this. It will be located in Atlanta, Ga and possibly elsewhere in the future.

My husband needs an accounting job. We live in middle Ga and I would like for him to have a job in that area. Right now he is commuting to atlanta and the gas is over 200 hundred dollars a month and he only makes 8.75 an hour. He works at an entry level job that is only paying half our bills. We have two special needs boys and they are school age but I have to stay home with one of them a lot since he has a lot of health problems. I have health problems of my own which makes it difficult to work plus my son with the more severe special needs(he is 15 and has Downs) needs constant supervision so when he stays home from school I need to be there. But I'm going to try to find something part-time next year. He is 57 but would like to work until retirement age. He lost his past accounting jobs due to layoffs. He has great references. Our family and dear friends “Lindsey Mlekush” & Amanda Hein have been donating food, time, medical supplies, under ground fencing, blankets , pillows, tarp everything you can imagine a helpless animal needs to numerous rescues throughout Georgia for quite sometime now. We are always looking for the best way we can help these helpless animals.

After some excited brainstorming we came up with the idea to open our own not for profit rescue. Hence the name “Kandi Boo Rescue” came about.

Please allow me to offer some background into what inspired us to open Kandi Boo Animal Rescue.

We were informed, through corroborated stories of animal rescue volunteers of many unspoken tragedies that were suffered by the less fortunate animals at the local humane society. Notwithstanding the tireless endeavors and good intentions of the animal shelter, the fact remains that these facilities are unable to handle the increasingly heavy caseload of animals that are being rescued, abandoned or
relinquished every month - and unfortunately, the only option that many of these animals face is euthanasia.

After being made aware of the heartbreaking plight of these homeless animals, we feel
committed to do something to assist these no-kill animal rescue organizations, which are committed not only to educating the public about the issues of animal overpopulation, and offering of spay and neuter services to help address this problem, but also to finding foster or permanent homes for homeless animals, in lieu of euthanizing them. Our goal is to help defray some of their ongoing rescue-related costs: e.g., imminent medical care, food, sheltering, and follow-up vet visits (which include prescription costs).

Over the past few weeks, the media has given coverage to the heartbreaking plight of homeless animals – people are abandoning them left and right as they struggle to make ends meet.



The situation has become acute, and although taking measures to help
control the overpopulation of animals is important (through spay & neuter programs), our hearts lie with alleviating some of the current suffering of those animals already born that are unable to help themselves.

As a frequent donor to numerous charitable causes myself, I am sensitive to the fact that during this time of economic recession, it is most important to reach out and lend a hand to those less fortunate than myself, including the animals.
I myself own 4 former rescue dogs, Lindsey owns 2 former rescues and Amanda fosters animals from other No Kill Rescue Centers until they get adopted into their forever home.

Our last former “rescue”, who came to us, a very sweet, but timid guy, who rarely wagged his tail, and was too shy to display much affection. Now – “Sebastian” “referred to as “Mr. Wiggles” by some of his female fans) - is the estate’s ambassador of love, and a huge hit with our guests – especially the children.

It would be wonderful to offer a second chance at happiness to many more of these helpless animals who want nothing more but to be part of a loving home.

And so the dilemma begins.

We lease a 3 bedroom home on a very nice property…however the owner of the property will not give us permission to build kennels for the animals in the high kill facilities. And we are not in a position to buy a home as all of our extra income goes to care for these animals.

That is where you come in, we are graciously asking if you can donate a 3 bedroom mobile home and possibly a spot of land in the greater Savannah, GA area.
Either or is great, but if you could donate both we could get started allot faster in the building process.

Everything we receive is through donations, we don’t ask for cash donations in any way, shape or form. Materials for building the kennels, dog food Veterinarian vouchers for animals that need medical attention so on and so forth.

We are the parents of a 15 year old son with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and we also have full custody of our 6 year old grandaughter who was born with fetal alcohol syndrome.

Once we are up and running with the rescue we plan to incorparate Autistic children as well as children with other handicaps into our program.


Twice a month we will have the children come to the rescue and spend time with the animals, these 2 issues are very near and dear to our entire family and community.

We were informed, through corroborated stories of animal rescue volunteers of many unspoken tragedies that were suffered by the less fortunate animals at the local humane society. Notwithstanding the tireless endeavors and good intentions of the animal shelter, the fact remains that these facilities are unable to handle the increasingly heavy caseload of animals that are being rescued, abandoned or
relinquished every month - and unfortunately, the only option that many of these animals face is euthanasia.

After being made aware of the heartbreaking plight of these homeless animals, we feel
committed to do something to assist these no-kill animal rescue organizations, which are committed not only to educating the public about the issues of animal overpopulation, and offering of spay and neuter services to help address this problem, but also to finding foster or permanent homes for homeless animals, in lieu of euthanizing them. Our goal is to help defray some of their ongoing rescue-related costs: e.g., imminent medical care, food, sheltering, and follow-up vet visits (which include prescription costs).

Over the past few weeks, the media has given coverage to the heartbreaking plight of homeless animals – people are abandoning them left and right as they struggle to make ends meet.

control the overpopulation of animals is important (through spay & neuter programs), our hearts lie with alleviating some of the current suffering of those animals already born that are unable to help themselves.

Our Mission Statement:

Our mission is to protect the welfare of the animals we come in contact with, and to promote the humane treatment and well being of these animals by:

Providing shelter and medical care for stray or abandoned animals in the Greater Savannah, Chatham County, Effingham County and Liberty County area's of Georgia.

Responding with personal commitment, humane sensitivity, compassion, and technical skill to the needs of these animals, actively promoting suitable adoptions of the animals.


Encouraging the spay and neutering of dogs and cats to ensure the numbers of unwanted animals be kept to a minimum; and helping to prevent cruelty to animals by promoting animal welfare legislation and education.

Local Rescue Groups only succeed in partnership with the community. Partnering with the Animal Care professions, local businesses, supporters, members and many hours of volunteer time make this work. Can you help us take care of more dogs and cats?

The Community Veterinarians who discount their services help CARE save many lives yet even then, the cost of surgery and post operative care adds up quickly.

Taking care of Rescued animals is something we do best.
We know because we do it and have surely passed the test.

The animals we bathed, the food we have fed, the vacuuming we have done, and all to watch a frightened soul, sit dreaming in the sun.

We know they understand this, for in their eyes we see the love that we have given them come shining back at us.

Some people think we are crazy, some others think we are great.
But very few can understand what really is at stake.

If we can love and help an animal to find a better way.
Our lives are much richer, we look forward to each day.
