Disabled vet needs help with home
Posted by emr428 on 2012-05-23 10:58:48
My husband is a disabled, retired Army veteran. About 10 years ago he purchased a camp in Maine that he planned to fix up and move into for his retirement. Unfortunately he has suffered flood damage twice, once he had flood insurance, or thought he did, but the insurance company refused to pay saying they hadn't processed the payment on the day he opened the policy and the flooding occured over the weekend so he was not covered! The second flooding FEMA came in and didn't bother going under the house so they only gave him $800! Both times the flooding destroyed all the insulation and a great deal of work. He now has to jack up the house, have a foundation put in, then level everything in the house. He cannot live there. He applied for an equity loan from the bank as the property is valued at $139K and there is no mortgage. But we have moved to Nevada as I was offered a job here that paid better than back east. We want nothing more than to get this house fixed up in Maine so we can either sell it or possibly retire there. Right now if someone was willing to give an equity loan of $40,000, we would take that instead of begging. Please consider helping us before this Maine house gets flooded again and we lose everything there. If each person who reads this can only give $1, it wouldn't take long to reach our goal and then we could give back in the future!

Still recovering from flood
Posted by 6ewApp on 2012-03-04 18:58:16
I got over a foot of water in my house on September 8, 2011 from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee. I live alone and I had just bought the house (my first) the summer before. A foot of water doesn't sound like a lot, but when you have no basement and it's a ranch home, you lose pretty much everything you own. I have gotten the house to livable condition so I can move back in (I've been living with friends and I've been in their way long enough) but there is so much left to do, and I'm out of FEMA money. And, no, my home was not located in a flood zone at the time of the flood, but I have since purchased flood insurance because I am not putting myself in this position again!
On top of this, I have over $50k in student loan debt, which Sallie Mae only let me defer 2 payments due to the disaster. Also, bank of America (evil!) offered no help with my credit cards or mortgage. So, Now I'm back on my regular budget, and can hardly save any money for the repairs and replacement costs.
PLEASE HELP a girl realize her American dream - to own a beautiful home and to take some of the financial worry out of her mind after experiencing a tragic event!

Upside down on my house

We are trying to sell our house. We live in a flood plain and have flooded twice. The market of course sucks. We owe about 94K on our houre, but currently have it listed at 91,500. If we get that amount we're still going to need about 9K at closing. Taxes are coming back and we only have about 4K. We seriously need to get out of this house. Please help! I'm tired of being scared everytime there is a big rain storm. I can't go through another flood. Anything would be greatly appreciated!

Vermont single mother of four, flood victim needs new home.
Posted by nrtchambers on 2011-09-20 11:58:12
Me and my four young children have lost our home in Vermont to the flooding of Irene in August. We where able to save 90% of our belongings, but the mobile home we lived in is deamed unliveable. We have been moving from hotel to hotel for 3 weeks now. It is putting a large strain on my wallet and my mind. I got laid off 3 days before the flood, making matters worse. I need to find a place to live before snow flies and funds are very limited right now. I am a responsible mother who has always worked looking for a hand-up not a hand-out. Am I desperate? At this point yes! I have four children who need desperately to be back in a stable home, not wondering which hotel we will be in next. Please please help! Thanks so much.

I am in desperate need to find a lender or donations to save our home. Long story, my husband and children live here along with my parents. And my sister. We all pitch in to help. My parents moved here after a flood took their home. Our home burned a few years back, then 6 months later my husbands business partners voted to sell our business. We tried to do a new business which failed. Left us with more debt. Business partners from that business filed bankruptcy on us and didnt tell us untill we got a lein placed against our home. This forced our bank to want payment in full or forclose. Our credit is now not good enough to refinance and our credit cards were maxed trying to make a go at business. We have been trying to sell some land and trying to go thru a private investor to refinance for us which we gave been working with for 10 months. We are scared, dont now whete to turn. We could manage if we could get caught up. But we cant pay leins, or debts now. 3 families will lose their homes. Donations, large ones unfortunately. Or someone who can afford to be a personal banker. Fast, .we keep in conract with our bank which could not help us, but a lady that works there is great and is worried for us. She said dont give up. The lady that appraises for the sherriffs office, is going slow as possible. If we dont get help, my families christmas will be losing our home. And ive been homeless before. It school my family lived in small tents during hurricaine hugo in florida. I xan go without, we are not spoiled, but i gotta try everything to nake this work. Im sincerely greatful for any help.
Thank you,
God bless

Hello, I'm Sherice. While I am a hard working young lady who is use to working for anything I or my family need, life throws unexpected changes sometimes.
two years I started going back to school, since the school was a bit ways from me I used what I had saved for my first paid for by me car. I found a great deal online and was able to talk the seller down to what I could afford at the time. I paid 6,000 cash and didn't have to worry about any notes.
One year later and it was gone, A flood came into TN and damaged more than we could handle. I'd only had the car one year. The insurance I had did not cover it and fema only gave us 7,000 for everything.
I'm still trying to bounce back, I had to put school on hold, and even now jobs are hard to come buy and me and my family are living pay check to paycheck. The only jobs that seem to call back are at the least an hour away and not on a bus route. So I searched online and found this site. I am asking that you please lend a helping hand to me to buy another car so I am able to go further away to look for employment and hopefully find something to help my family.
I've searched online and found another car like the one I had at the cheapest price I could find. It's a 2007 dodge caliber for 7500.
I'm also open to employment that will pay well enough so I can just work for the money.
currently I have a part time job as a phone clerk that pays min wage, but it only lets me work 10hrs a week. on top of that our water was recently cut off due to us trying to keep up with the light bill so we are now trying to get that back on as well.

Quickly losing the battle to keep a roof over my families heads

I was layed off from my job of 6 years in 2005 due to budget cuts. In order to keep up with bills while I looked for a new job I started a computer repair business that managed to keep us afloat for a couple years, along with tapping my 401k. During this time the local economy took and even bigger hit and even with over a decade of experience I was unable to find sufficient work without a degree. As a result I decided to go back to school in 2009 to get my degree. With fiancial aid, the remainder of my 401k, money from the odd jobs I could find, and my wifes wages we managed to stay just ahead of our bills.
However in the last year the economy has gotten so bad that I was actually losing money repairing and building custom PC's, my wifes hours have been cut wo less than 10 hours a week, and any job that I have applied for I am not eligble for either because I am still finishing my degree so am under qualified, or because I am over qualified due to the schooling I have completed so far. (That's right I have been told I am overqualified to flip burgers at Mcdonalds, not sure how that works.)
Because of our reduced income we have been late on a number of bill payments for utilities and the house. I have sold my boat, my guns, and various electronics to get were we are and am to the point I have nothing of value left to sell. Aside from the monthly bills I have repair bills racking up on the house and our remaining vehicle.
The to top it off we got hit with a flood that took out our water heater, washer and dryer, and did significant damage to the rest of the basement.
Current bills include:
Cable $185
Cell $195
Mortgage $850
porperty taxes $200
food $600
gas $250
misc expenses for kids $200+ (8 year old daughter, 17 year old son)
repairs
replace water heater $1200
replace washer and dryer $500
engine and transmission work needed $2400
replace flooring and wall paneling $7500
Current monthly income
Wife: $600
Me: $800
Even with the financial aid and some other assistance we are almost $600 a month short just for the basic bills.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

My boyfreinds parents lost their home due to a flood. Their home was everything to them. Unfortunatly they were given very little help and too proud to ask for it. Things have just spiraled down since then for them. My boyfreinds dad was aid off by his job. He is 55 and having a hard time finding work. The trailer they had to buy cause its the only one they could afford has water damage where the walls are actually rotting and the floor have hole you can actually fall through. My boyfreind mother works hard to support her and her husband. Endlessly working with no hope of ever having alittle extra let alone things like a safe place to live and security of knowing the bills will get paid. I wish I could help them but I'm just starting out in life myself and just making it. Lucky for me I'm not towards the end of my life like my boyfriends parents. They should be able to have some security at this stage in their lives. Please I begging for some help on their behalf. They are two of the most hardworking and loving set of parents I know. Please help them out. Thankyou for reading.

Taught in the M.E for 4 yrs, returned to Australia with a failed marriage. Homeless with my 8yr old son till I had to pay 6mths in advance on rent to a real estate in order to secure accommodation - used the rest of savings on a cheap car. Forced to live on credit - now 6mths later, lost the car to Brisbane flood weather, insurance won't pay out though happy to right the car off...carless, but not careless.
Spiralling fast - can't manage the CC payments and 6mths rent paid is up and due to pay Feb 24 from my pocket...but, my pocket is empty and my level of desperation has forced me to look online for money...
I need an angel, dear universe! please help me x

Dear Sirs,
Beg your help to save my life
I am 53 years old businessman from tiny island of Sri Lanka. I started my business in 2007 after retiring from a leading solid rubber manufacturing company (Trelleborg Lanka PVT LTD Swedish own company) where I worked as the manager procurement for good 13 years. I am B.Sc graduate and diploma holder of rubber and plastic product manufacturing.
At the beginning my business, natural rubber processing industry was a success. I even renovated whole plant which was more than 50 years old and purchased two trucks to transport raw materials and finished goods to and from my facility. My trouble started in latter part of 2008 due to global economic down turn. Prices of our finished product, processed natural rubber ( Brown crepe ) declined rapidly in a space of few days thereby incurring heavy losses. Somehow I did managed to dragged my business till 31st march 2009 despite heavy losses. I provided 55 direct employment for very poor peasants in rubber growing area in Sri Lanka.
Due to heavy debt and pressure from my creditors I had to close down the factory and sold it out at very low price to settle my workers dues and some debt. I even had to handed over my vehicles to leasing company due to my failure to settle due installments in time
Ultimately I ended up with Rs. 8.5 million loss ( Approximately US$. 85,000) . Now I lost whole my earning for past years. Some of my creditors filed court cases against me. Some are putting pressure on me to settle their dues. They even posing death threats . I have been mentally and physically abused by my creditors everyday since closer of my plant. Police at the complain of my creditors may arrest me for default. Now I am in dilemma. I need police protection for safety of my life from death threats. At the same time police want me to settle my creditors debt as some cheque issued to creditors were dishonored.
I do not have any saving except my provident fund. After toiling hard for last 30 years, I earned around 3.5 million rupees ( approximately US$. 35,000) . At maturity, when I turn 55 it will be Rs. 4 million. I will get around Rs. 1.5 million as inheritance after selling of my parent properties (House where I live now. My share is 1/6 of the total value). Those wealth can be accessible only after another two years.
As I do not have fixed income nowadays, I am unable to overcome my difficulties without help of charity or donation. Legal expenses and my medical expenses aggravate my misery. My life now totally depend on sympathy of my age old friends. One provide shelter and the others provide meals. Now I am like a beggar although do not beg on the roadside.
I wrote several letter to relevant government organizations for compensation or bailout package, but nobody looked at it as government in short of money for that kind of compensations. I wrote to parliamentary ombudsman as well. All were in vein. Local red cross society replied to my request saying that they do not have mandate to give financial help to individual although my case is worthwhile to be considered.
Although I have taken all the insurance covers needed for our industry, like workmen compensation, fire. Flood, storm and tempest , burglary, personal accident, consequence lost cover could not be obtained due to nature of our industry. I put forward claim for US$. 75,000 but was not entertained due to nature of our industry.
I am looking for a help to settle my debt and restart a business. I can offer my EPF and inheritance as security. But those would be matured only after 2 years. House can be sold out only after flood situation due to unplanned development is permanently arrested by local government in our area. Otherwise a buyer can not be found. As such if anybody feel sorry for me and willing to help me , please contact me on my following e-mails in order to get my other details you need

Alot of Queenslanders have been effected by floods...My wish is to help raise money for the victims....especially those that do not have flood insurance because its too expensive....Its a heart breaking situation...Many communities have been devastated. Some families have lost everything.

Hi, I'm an 18 yr old searching for donations for a chance to do my church's 10 month internship. I just recently graduated and am trying to take an opportunity of a lifetime.
It's a two-semester, ten-month internship program. As an intern I will have the opportunity to minister to thousands of young people both locally in area schools and communities, as well as abroad through mission's trips to Haiti, Venezuela, Mexico, the Philippines, and other nations. Each week, as an intern I would help flood the schools with the gospel, ministering the Word of God to hungry students all over the greater Baton Rouge area. If not in a classroom ministering, as an intern I would be sent out to area communities where outreaches, evangelism, and mentoring take place.
