I have been without running water in my home for about 18 months. I have a water bill of about $1000. I had a massive leak in my plumbling and got it fixed but by then the bill was too high.

Just two weeks ago we got the word from the Feds that my daughter would have to begin paying off her education debt to the tune of $1,533.00 per month. This is to bring down a total debt amount of $200,000 + dollars.

Yes, that's $200,000 dollars!! What??? While they are working to determine if this is actually the amount owed, she still has to pay this money back starting on May 28, 2012.

Unfortunately, she is not a doctor, attorney, or any other vocation that allows her to have this kind of money to pay this humongous bill. She is a social worker who makes about $33,000 per year. Although she could seek to get another part-time job her current job does not allow her to do that. Her working hours are 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. many nights (with no overtime - that sucks!!). Last night she did not get home until midnight only to have to be back at work at 8:00 a.m. this morning.

I so want to help her but I am unable to do so at this time because I am retired and am receiving a very small fixed income. I am looking for work myself so that I can help out. In the meantime however, the first payment is due May 28 and I'm (we're) desperate to get some help.

So please, whatever you can share to help her in this dire need would be most appreciated. And, if there is someone who could pay one or two months forward on this, we would surely be forever grateful and thankful for your generous gift.

I will be adding my two cents worth just as soon as I get a job. In the meantime though, whatever you can send to help her pay this bill on Monday, May 28 would help to take some of the pressure off.

You see, if that money is not in the bank by then, they will garnish her next check which means that she won't be able to keep her place to live and her car to get to work. No car - no work. She lives in a rural area and has to drive to get to work. There is no public transportation available and the beat goes on. If she has No place to live - she then becomes a social worker in need of services herself. That would be messy and wouldn't allow her to keep her job. So whatever financial help you can provide will be very much appreciated.

My husband is a disabled, retired Army veteran. About 10 years ago he purchased a camp in Maine that he planned to fix up and move into for his retirement. Unfortunately he has suffered flood damage twice, once he had flood insurance, or thought he did, but the insurance company refused to pay saying they hadn't processed the payment on the day he opened the policy and the flooding occured over the weekend so he was not covered! The second flooding FEMA came in and didn't bother going under the house so they only gave him $800! Both times the flooding destroyed all the insulation and a great deal of work. He now has to jack up the house, have a foundation put in, then level everything in the house. He cannot live there. He applied for an equity loan from the bank as the property is valued at $139K and there is no mortgage. But we have moved to Nevada as I was offered a job here that paid better than back east. We want nothing more than to get this house fixed up in Maine so we can either sell it or possibly retire there. Right now if someone was willing to give an equity loan of $40,000, we would take that instead of begging. Please consider helping us before this Maine house gets flooded again and we lose everything there. With much trying and hard work my mother fixed up her credit and we are now much closer to buying a house. We found the perfect one however we have no money for the initial 1,000 because we need to pay to stay at the hotel and my hours have been cut bad. On top of the at the end of May the rates for the hotel go up to 200 a night. My mother is beginning to think maybe we shouldn't be doing this now but know if we don't then we wont ever move forward. We have had the worst luck with bills, no home of our own, and our family has turned their backs on us with living with us and helping us out financially. I have no idea what to do anymore. My father left us a few years ago so its me (19), my sister (20), my mother, and my little sister (8). For months after my family stayed at a Days Inn trying to get back on track but it was a failure. No matter what we did we couldn't get out of our slump. Because of this we were forced to move into our cousins house in Brooklyn in late October to help catch up. This was bad because my sister and I work and go to college in New Jersey and my little sister goes to school there too so we were forced to drive back and forth every day. My mother works with the Board of ED in the city so it wasn't that bad. My cousins are truly terrible people for they non-stop pestered when we would be leaving and basically kicked us out a week before christmas because and I quote "they needed room to put up their tree". After we went back to New Jersey and stayed at a hotel in point pleasant which is where we are now. My name is Ann. I live in a small town that is in the flood plain, I lost my husband in 98. In 97 I had 14 inches of water in the house. Had flood insurance that helped get the home back in living condition. In 2003 I was in an accident that caused me to quite my job as a firefighter paramedic. I have only worked part time for three months this year, My credit is bad. I live on a fixed income but have been able to pay off my existing mortgage. But now my home is falling apart. The foundation has shifted and the floors and walls are sinking in. I am in need of help getting the house I have torn down and get another home elevated above the flood plane. I am desperate I do not know what to do. My home is no safe. My family is not able to help so I am asking for any and all help that I can get. I have lost several jobs in the last 3 years, most of which were layoffs. Each time I lost ab job, I got a little bit further behind in my bills, and I owe a lot of money. I am at the point right now where I can either pay rent or get my car fixed. I currently live in Pittsburgh but have been trying to move back to California where my son and friends are. I don't care if I get all of my debt paid -- all I want is enough money to move back to california to be with my son.
