Disabled vet needs help with home

Posted by emr428 on 2012-05-23 10:58:48

My husband is a disabled, retired Army veteran. About 10 years ago he purchased a camp in Maine that he planned to fix up and move into for his retirement. Unfortunately he has suffered flood damage twice, once he had flood insurance, or thought he did, but the insurance company refused to pay saying they hadn't processed the payment on the day he opened the policy and the flooding occured over the weekend so he was not covered! The second flooding FEMA came in and didn't bother going under the house so they only gave him $800! Both times the flooding destroyed all the insulation and a great deal of work. He now has to jack up the house, have a foundation put in, then level everything in the house. He cannot live there. He applied for an equity loan from the bank as the property is valued at $139K and there is no mortgage. But we have moved to Nevada as I was offered a job here that paid better than back east. We want nothing more than to get this house fixed up in Maine so we can either sell it or possibly retire there. Right now if someone was willing to give an equity loan of $40,000, we would take that instead of begging. Please consider helping us before this Maine house gets flooded again and we lose everything there. If each person who reads this can only give $1, it wouldn't take long to reach our goal and then we could give back in the future!

At my wits end...please help!!

Four years ago our house was paid for. The only debt that we had was $13,000 for a camping trailer.

17 years ago I worked for a Fortune 500 company. I got sick at work due to chemicals and they fired me. My doctor said that I can only work from home. I can’t find a company that will allow me to do that. My husband had a good job as a union truck driver but the company closed his terminal so he also lost his job.

Before my husband lost his job the FMCSA made him get an exemption to drive. He was off from work for 9 months. Then he had to have 2 hips replaced and was off again for 3 months. During that time we had some major expenses like a new well and furnace. Two weeks after my husband lost his job our home was flooded and our insurance didn‘t cover anything. I also lost my car that was 11 years old. I now drive one that’s 15 years old and my husband drives one that’s 12 years old. My husband did get another job 3 weeks after he lost his but he makes 1/3 of what he did.

During the time that he was off from work and since he lost his good job we wanted to keep our bills paid and our credit good. We were forced to use our home equity loan. Now we are almost at the limit of $100,000. With the housing market falling our house is now worth about half of what it was. We owe way more than what it is worth. I’m am afraid that we are going to lose our house. This has caused marriage problems between my husband and I. I am depressed and anxious most of the time.

My prescriptions alone are $1260 a month. The year before last my husband made less than $28,000. This year he did make over $30,000. We make just enough that we are not in poverty. So, we do not qualify for any assistance. What kind of help is available for the poor working middle class that is trying to keep their bills paid?

please need your help you are my last hope in saving my houses

good Morning
I jsut can't get refiniace or get modification because of this bank just want! I througt we are suppose to be protect from bad lener like this BUT NOT!
I have been asking for help from this predatory lender Rochester Home Equity which no one heard of this company. I have filed a complaint against RHE with Department of Financial Services and the reply was I can not get any help from them because my case is in court yes I know that it's been in court for 2 Years and i am not getting anywhere, I know that Jay Gelb the owner of Rochester Home equity is a millionaire, I just can't bet this lender and it's not fair that Mr. Gelb is going to take my houses and won't do a modification, and it's so sad that Mr. Gelb from Rochester Home Equity taking advance of low income people, I just want to know how many other victims is out there and couldn't get any help from anyone to help them before it was to late and everything they work for is GONE. My problem is I am being counsel by my lawyer but again it's has been a on gowning problem with Rochester Home Equity, all we been asking is for Rochester Home equity to TAKE my mother house off the lien that didn't have any mortgage on the 48 Homewood Ave my mother left me and my brother and do modification my house on 43 Twiller St. Rochester Home Equity is just giving us a hard time. As of right now I am debt with my lawyer for $10,000.00 that money I don't have because going to court and trying to do modification and we are not getting anywhere with this lender. I am so tried that Rochester Home Equity want reply to any thing that my lawyer is asking. I just want RHE this predatory lender just take my mother home that she left me and my brother off the lien that didn't have any mortgage on the home and work with my home that is worth $136,000.00 I brought the house I live in for $130,000.00 and my rate is 12.5 percent don't you think that a very HIGH rate. Yes I am bennig counsel by a lawyer as i stated my lawyer is not getting anywhere with this Rochester Home Equity. All I am asking you for help and step in because what RHE is doing is wrong and like I stated NO one cares what happen to me and other people that the lender is doing to us and hurting people too. Now I will be going into Chapter 13 because I don't want to lose my homes, and RHE this Predatory Lender just don't care ONLY wants both houses. So can you PLEASE step into this matter! It's a big problem as you see what have happen to me. Me and my lawyer just want Rochester Home Equity is take my mother home off the lien and work with the new modification and redo my loan, but that's not going to happen so that is why I am pleading with you ASAP to save my houses. Again Please take a close look at me statement again.
I am also going to email you all the my document to you. And hope you can find out that i have been taking advance of all i am asking if you can take your time and read what i am sending you, and again i am just asking for this lender to take my mother house off the lien and let me do modifcation as i been trying to do. I have got sick with CHF i ask the lender that i am not making money because of my health can they do a modification on my home and again the answer was NO.Please look into my case PLEASE.

Thank you
T
I have hit rock bottom. My father's service was Friday, and I can't burden my mother with the truth, I am 3 months behind in my mortgage and am afraid I'll lose it before I can sell it. But what then? I need prayers and some kind of help or everything I've worked for will disappear and my children will have nothing. I need a hand up, not hand out - and I will do anything to stop this from happening. I am heartbroken that I have failed them so, and this is a last ditch attempt to salvage something. I am educated, well groomed and attractive - not that the physical matters except that I feel I have honestly done all I can and yet feel like digging a hole and hiding. I am not afraid to be alone, but would like to believe I will find someone to love me again...but have this sick feeling everyday the time for that is running out. I will do anything, provide documentation, security in the form of equity, whatever is necessary. Please help me help myself - the fear that my son senses how hard it is for me not to give up and is frightened too.

Desparately Need Money for New Business

BE THE GENEROUS ONE TO HELP ME START A NOVEL (similarities with Yoga) NATIONWIDE (with potential for Global) EXERCISE SYSTEM! Please Email me with question: info at relaxationstation dot biz

Hi, my name is Glenn, I formally managed a small nationwide business that unfortunately wound down in 2009 - it had run its course. Since that time I've been nearly homeless.

I've conceived of a new business concept but have zero money to launch even the first phase. The biz concept is a new exercise system somewhat akin to Yoga (as it is taught today) but utilizes western, scientifically based modalities along with complementary enhancement technologies. I firmly believe, the system I have conceived could very well supplant contemporary Yoga.

I need Money to:
1. Hire an expert from the primary Modality (four synergistic modalities) to assist in fine-tuning my sequence.[Have an expert in mind, she worked for our former Company.]
2. Hire a videographer
3. Produce a simple Video
4. Hire a Model to Demo the sequence to Angel Investors
5. Miscellaneous Expenses.

I've calculated the first phase could be done for approximately $12,000 I live in San Francisco, CA and it would be launched here. If the terms were very comfortable, I'd be more than happy to commit to repayment w/ moderate interest + a reasonable equity option.
THANKS MUCH FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

Little Room At The Inn

Posted by difference on 2012-01-25 16:58:28

I am 32 years old, married with two children and like many others I am sure we are struggling in the recession. My husband and I both work full time, we have no holidays, drive old cars and have little luxuries and due to the negative equity we have in our property we are stuck in the small house that we live in. We have been saving hard to start building our own extension as we cannot afford a builder to take the job on, so my husband has agreed to try and do the work himself. We know that it will take so much longer but we do not have any choice. We are already on an interest only mortgage on an extremely high interest rate due to our negative equity so we cannot reduce our biggest outgoing at all. The reason we need to extend our house is that my daughter's room is so small that we cannot even buy a single bed to fit in the room so we need to get her out of her baby bed and into a normal size bed. If we could afford to move we would but we would owe the bank money if we sold up and that is just not an option. We need help to allow us to stay here as we are really running out of ideas. I feel very nervous and a bit weird doing this but we are doing everything we can from buying most of our food in the reduced aisle and I am selling the kids old clothes just to make some money so that we can start building our extension as we will be staying in the house for a lot longer than we planned. I understand that there are many people out there with very worthy causes and that we are a normal family with big money problems and that you may feel that this is way down the list of priorities, so I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this and for any help that you may be able to give.

Sailing around the world.

Posted by sailingaway on 2012-01-03 14:58:20

In 2007 I purchased an old 1982 O'day 25 sailboat on Ebay. It needed a lot of work and I went about fixing it up and outfitting it to sail. I'll post some pictures in the future or email you some to show you. I re-launched her in June 2009 under her origional name; Shadubie. The plan was to sail around Buzzards Bay out of New Bedford, Ma until I was confident enough to sail or cruise longer distances until one day I would venture away for ever. It's sounds foolish, but it's my dream and slowly it has been coming true. As of 2009 I've sailed Buzzards bay and Narragansitt Bay and out to Green Port, Long Island. I'll be sailing all the Islands in the area for another year or two, But money has become an issue. So much so, that I may be forced to sell the boat, or even abandon it to rising marina costs. I am looking for funds to keep her sailing. This is a real great boat and it is strange to say that I've developed a love for her akin to having a girl friend. Anyone who has ever had a boat, and put in a lot of sweat equity into it, should understand. Any way, Please Donate what you can to keep Shadubie and me sailing. A buck for luck?
With your help,Some day we'll be sailing away, and around the world.

Need Help Please - Lost Home and Husband To Suicide

Posted by YoungWidow on 2011-08-06 16:58:53

There is no easy way to tell this story. I know that this letter is long and I wish it were a simple matter, but it is not. 3 days after my husband and I lost our home to foreclosure, I lost my husband of almost 16 years to suicide.

Joe and I bought our home in 1999. We had rented it for 3 years since we had gotten married on June 1, 1996. We were a happy couple and in love and we created many memories there, happy Christmases, a lot of laughter and a growing togetherness that at the end, rendered Joe and I not just husband and wife, but best of friends. Joe was my best friend.

We both worked, but the layoffs began in 2007. For years, we struggled and worked hard to make ends meet. In 2009, we were working with our mortgage company on a loan modification program. Still, bankruptcy had to be filed in late 2009. But, in October, 2010, Joe was laid off again. For the next six months following the last lay off, we worked with the mortgage company in trying to find a buyer for our home to possibly rent it back to us. Ultimately, the mortgage company auctioned our home for $98,000. All of our equity was gone and we had no home. Both of us were out of work and Joe was receiving unemployment benefits.

During that time, I watched Joe change. He had always been an optimistic person. One of his favorite things to say was, 'it doesn't have to be this way'. He was the life of the party, he made everyone laugh, and he was a good person. Joe was a genuinely sincere, loving, sweet, hardworking man who cared about others.

Even strangers. Once, driving home from work, he heard a girl screaming from a deserted parking lot behind Safeway. He pulled over and got out of the car, as two men ran by him. He said he wanted to chase them, but did not because he felt he needed to check on the girl. She had been beaten. He stayed with her and comforted her until the police arrived. They thanked him for stopping. He said he told them, 'Of course. Anyone would'. They assured him that was not true. But, that was the way that Joe thought.

I watched Joe struggle more than I had ever seen someone do to take care of our home and of me. Sometimes he would still laugh, but those times began coming fewer and farther between. Sometimes, he would cry. He would sob in my arms. It tears my heart out now to think of it. I will never in this lifetime get over this or recover completely. Joe had been in my life for a total of 18 years, 16 married, almost (this last June 1, 2011 would have been our 16th wedding anniversary), he was a good man, and he was my friend. He was my life.

Joe and I lost our home. We packed our home of nearly 16 years into a storage building. (I have since lost that building and all of our belongings).

3 days after losing our home, Joe committed suicide. He jumped off of a bridge. Despite a hospital stay and efforts to save him, he ultimately died.

The buyers of our home have turned it over or flipped it already in this short time. I sometimes go by it and look at it. I see Joe tinkering in the garage or I look through the front window and picture us having dinner together. I see where our Christmas tree stood. I look at the front door and remember when we first walked through it, when we were engaged and looking for our first (and only) home. The very first thing that went into our home, before furniture or belongings, was a small statue with Jesus and a little plaque that read 'Bless Our Home'. Joe hung that in the hallway. I still cannot comprehend that this happened. Joe was always a positive, happy person. Our wedding song was 'You're The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me.' by Gladys Knight. I can't listen to it now. I know you don't know Joe and he's a stranger to you, but he was my life.

I lost my husband and my home in a period of 3 days. Joe's unemployment checks have ceased and there is no income. I have applied for dozens upon dozens of jobs, everything from picking up trash at a park to a waitress to an errand runner. I have not been hired. I have few skills and he was always the major earner. He had years of experience in various outside sales. I am not a college graduate with few skills and what I have to offer is very limited. I cannot afford to go back to school. Social Security will not help because I am not old enough. Joe and I couldn't have children so often, public assistance cannot help. New creditors are coming after me, such as the homeowners association for the house we lost, his time in the hospital in their efforts to save him (due to circumstances, there was no medical insurance, however by law they were required to treat him), the ambulance and rescue team that pulled him from the water and the list and cost is too measurable to detail here. I do not know where else to turn. I am alone. So, I am turning to you.

Joe used to say, 'sometimes bad things happen to good people.' When he said that, I never imagined this. Can you please help? I am lost.

Thank you.

All My Best,

Christina

Help me with my mortgage

Posted by Quattro on 2011-05-30 05:58:17

Hi my name is Susan Felton. I have a £155,000 mortgage and my worry is that I am going to lose my job this year. I work for a human rights charity and due to the recession donations are well down. At 60 years old it will be difficult for me to find another job (shame cos I dont look my age and am still regarded as attractive! - look me up on Facebook). I am also very arthritic due to using a keyboard for many years. I was also born with mild disability in the hips and knees and I now have mobility problems.
I have worked all my life, studied hard for a degree and have never had to stay on welfare for more than a few weeks ever in between work.
I got this loan some years ago when I was in better health. Now I am very worried about it. I am a single woman with no family but I do have younger relatives two of whom are mentally ill and need my help. My home is not large enough to have lodgers. If I sell up and just rent the outgoings will be the same. Rents are just as expensive in the UK as mortgages. The equity in my home is not enough to live off.
I am hoping to raise enough money to pay this mortgage off fairly soon.
I worked out that if 31,000 people donated just £5 each that would clear it - or 15,000 people donated £10.
If anyone out there can help they will be my friends for life!
Everything I am saying can be verified if need be.
I really am very very worried!
Please give what you can.

Stuck on couch, 3 children, no insurance, need surgery.

Posted by slgroft1 on 2011-04-01 03:58:29

Never did I think I would be posting something like this, but like many others in this time I find myself in need of some assistance. My husband, who has worked extremely hard top provide for our family, has found himself short of work. We started out own company 15 years ago and had done very well until the market crashed. During the crash we were in the process of building ourselves a home which we now live in but we lost a lot of equity in the sale of our old house and find ourselves in a tight situation now.

I have a college degree and have been looking for a job for 2 years, but because I have been a stay at home mom, home schooling my dyslexic son, the workforce seems to believe I am not qualified for even entry level positions. I have taken a job cleaning houses for $10.00 and hour. The little bit of extra money I am making is helping with everyday needs such as groceries and gas, but it does not go far. In addition to working part time, I am responsible for three children, my son, and my niece and nephew who live with us. I am also watching my neighbors little girls in the afternoons for some extra cash.

My immediate concern is that I injured my back in March of 2010. I have ruptured a disk which is sitting on the nerve to my leg causing excruciating pain. I was doing very well and was almost better until last week when I injured my back again, worse than the first time. I am unable to work my job or to watch the girls and now we have lost what little money I did make. I now have to have surgery, it is no longer an option, but because we are short on money and run our own business, we do not have any health insurance.

The hospital wants $5600.00 up front, the surgeon, $1600.00 and the testing for pre operation adds up to about $550.00. I can cover the $550.00 but as for the rest of it…

I have been tough for as long as I can, trying to avoid the surgery, but at this point the only way I can function is to take a lot of prescribed narcotics which then prevents me from driving.

I hope that someone out there could have some compassion for my situation and offer some help to me. The children are suffering and missing activities, my husband is stressed from working and taking care of my responsibilities, and I am feeling sad and useless.

My husband and I are constantly helping others who are less fortunate than us (i.e. my niece and nephew), but this time we need the help and only hope someone can reciprocate the favor. Thank you in advance for considering to help and I wish you well in all your endeavors.

Please help, family in need of help. I've been without work for over a year, debt stacking up, truck is being repoed, trying to hold on to our house. I am having a hard time doing this, You might be thinking what makes my family worthy over others. I cannot tell you, I can only say I've worked hard for over twenty years and when the housing bubble burst our retirement investment property was a casulty. What equity we had built was lost due to not being able to find tennants in a ultra competitive market, finally we simply gave the duplex back to the bank, loosing around fifty K of equity. A year and a half after that my job was lost due to lack of work, I've been taking anything I can find, but it hasn't been enough. I am doing this only to pay down my energy bill, taxes ,and to get my house payments current need 38,492.00 Thank You. anything helps.

Help me Rehab my building

Posted by Jorodryn on 2011-02-20 09:58:56

In 2007 I purchased a small commercial building in Ishpeming, Michigan. My goal was to fix it up and set up a business inside. Unfortunately around the same time I found myself out of a job. Flash forward to 2011. I am working now, but I do not have the funds to do the rehab myself. I do have some cash set aside for the project just not enough. I have also not been able to secure a loan for it either. I am hoping to raise enough to get a good start on the project and maybe even use that equity to secure the loan to do the whole project.

The building needs a new roof, new windows, new doors, a boiler, and the plumbing and electrical needs to be checked out and repaired as necessary.

thanks for any help.

I thought I was the only one going through this
till I found this website and started reading some
of the sad storys. I once was married and when
my wife left I was left with all the debt I was able to
work overtime to cover the bills than the overtime
was cut because of the economy.I used up all of my
credit cards hoping my home value would go up so
I could get a home equity loan but my house is still
20000 less than my mortgage in value.with no where
else to turn I could sure use a helping hand anything would
be greatly appreciated .hope I soon see a light at the end
of this stressful tunnel.
