I am the 2%, or My Life as a Teen Mom
Posted by educatedsinglemama on 2012-05-14 02:58:09
I was raised by a single parent and grew up in a town where most families were on some sort of government assistance and could barely make ends meet. I was always taught to value what I had and that hard work will always bear its fruits. My high school was filled with kids who didnât care about getting an education. I was a introverted ânerdâ who took Honors and AP classes and saw education as a way to get out of a town that didnât have much opportunity for growth. While I valued my education, I was also bored to death, even in my âaccelerated classes,â so I stupidly acted out and started to party as high school kids do. I ditched class to drink and dabbled a bit in drugs because there was nothing else to do. Even as I partied, I still managed to remain on the honor roll for all 4 years. Fast forward to the beginning of my senior year, our class had 250 kids and throughout the year approximately half of the student body dropped out at one point or another, giving up on their 14 year investment in their education. I made it to the end, but while everyone was excitedly responding to college acceptance letters, I had to throw all of mine out. Why? I was pregnant. I fully accept responsibility for my actions, but sex was not talked about in my household. I had no idea I had access to birth control or condoms and foolishly made a mistake that would change my life. I went to my prom and graduation 3 months pregnant without anyone knowing aside from my family.
The summer after graduation was spent brainstorming options and finding a job to help support my unborn child. I decided to keep the baby, thinking I would give it up for adoption. I was too immature to take care of myself, and now a baby? No way. As the months progressed, I fell in love with the baby and decided to keep her and raise her with the help of my family. I was excited but deep inside I was depressed. I really wanted to go off to college and live the life of a student living on campus, making new friends, staying up late to cram for midterms and possibly travel a bit. I couldnât do that anymore and the thought of experiencing college in any other way didnât entice me. I also knew if I didnât get an education, Iâd be stuck in a cycle of dead end jobs all my life. I knew I didnât want to struggle like Iâve seen my family fight just to put a decent meal on the table and keep the lights from getting shut down.
I started college two months after my daughter was born. She was perfection and an incredible motivator. Iâve always thought that she deserves something better, beyond what I can give her but I decided to try my best to give her an amazing life. Since I just had a baby, I wanted to explore the opportunities I had outside of a traditional classroom in college. Luckily, the local community college offered online courses which only required me to be in class on the first day, at midterms and during finals week. I did this for a year and a half until I took every online course possible. Then it was time for full immersion into college. Here came daycare and having to balance college life with working and a small child.
My average day in college looked like this: weâd have to wake up at the crack of dawn so my daughter and I could ride a 45-minute bus to school. Unlike most of my classmates, I had to dash straight from work to class or go to work right after class so that I could pick up my daughter from school at a proper hour. I was very fortunate to land a job in a small office as an office assistant during college that would later prove invaluable. The pay was ok, but I was allowed to tailor my schedule to be compatible with my changing class load every semester. After our day was done came another bus ride. Once we got home, Iâd have to make dinner, pack us lunch for the next day, prepare her backpack with extra clothes plus wash and prepare a dayâs worth of bottles for my daughter. After I put my daughter to bed was the only time I had for homework. Iâd stay up until about 2am every night doing my reading assignments or writing papers only to have to get up 3 ½ hours later to start my day again.
I did this every day for 5 ½ years.
Was it worth it? Heck yeah. I got my bachelorâs degree on my wall as proof. I am the first person in my family to ever get a degree. I have multiple relatives my age who ended up dropping out for various reasons yet I managed to graduate (with honors!) while juggling a small child and a demanding job. Aside from raising my daughter, this is what Iâm most proud of thus far. I read online that less than 2% of teen moms attain a college degree before age 30. Iâm stoked beyond words to be a part of that 2% (Source) I hope that this struggle and success will set an example to my daughter and show her that hard work does pay off.
After college, I worked a few jobs that I wasnât too keen on. Too corporate, too stuffy, too bureaucratic to evoke any change and make an impact. I wanted to wake up every morning and feel inspired to go to work. I didnât just want a paycheck, I wanted to engulf myself within organization so that I could kick ass and take names. I also wanted a 401(k), health benefits and life insurance so that my bases could be covered in old age. But mainly I wanted to wake up invigorated every morning and be able to pay my bills. After college, my daughter and I moved into our first home. I loved waking her up in her room filled with the girliest of things. I was a proud mamaâon my own, college educated and living life as an independent woman.
Independent but unfulfilled. That is, until I was introduced to the CEO of my most recent employer. We hit it off immediately and within two week was offered the chance of a lifetime. I was invited to join his multimillion dollar company and close-knit team as his right hand. Iâd learn all the inâs and outâs of running a business in a dynamic industry and receive a nice salary. After a bit of contemplation, I decided to resign from my stuffy job to join a company I was proud to be apart of. My job was great. It was flexible, nurturing, educational and insightful. In a few short weeks, I was in the trenches with my boss handling everything from sales to contracts to finance to HR. That is, until the company suddenly went out of business. I wonât get into the details but I was told Iâd have a month before we were all let go. This was the job I wanted to settle in and dedicate years to, not just a job really but a mission to which I was dedicated.
I was laid off in March with no severance pay as the company had nothing. I had a small savings which I tapped into as I began searching for a job. I had to file for unemployment for the first time, which was hard as Iâve prided myself on not having to use government resources to pay my bills. I have almost a decade of solid work history and yet Iâm struggling to find a job. Places are hiring but theyâre scarce and donât always offer pay that can support a family.
My bills are piling up and I have family and friends that are in no position to help me out. Unemployment can only pay so much and it isnât enough to put a home-cooked meal on the table or keep everything paid. Iâm in the process of starting up two businessesâone that peddles vintage finds and another that provides folks with stellar resumes to land their dream job so that I can increase my cash flow, but in the meantime, Iâm asking for any donations to my cause. Iâm willing to offer any services in return for a donation over $30 via paypal. Thereâs a button below where your transaction will be processed safely and gratefully!

Recent college grad, trying to get on his feet
Posted by PoorWriterGuy on 2012-05-09 12:58:34
Pretty soon here, I'm going to have no money. My friend wants rent money by June 1st - $400. I can't afford to eat and pay him rent at the same time.
My beg is for any money you can possibly spare - just enough to get a meal or two would be nice enough. I've applied for over 35 corporate positions in the last two days, and countless minimum wage positions.
Work is also acceptable. I am a published writer, and I would be happy to edit/proofread/write documents for you in exchange for money.
Thank you

A light at the end of the tunnel?
Posted by doomed1 on 2012-01-30 02:58:37
I've worked very hard and instead of being out there in the world stealing or making babies I can't afford I got a good job, car, and bought my first home at age 20. I'm the kinda friend you know has his own issues and he don't wanna bum you out with them but you can say "Hey James, I can't make my rent, can I borrow this.." or "James my house burned down can I come live wit you?" or "my boyfriend is about to be deported can you buy his old car so we can afford the lawyers?" and my answers are as follows; How much you need?, how long Can you stay + here's $2000 come buy a co-op in my building I'll put in a good word for you, and will it pass inspection?? All this before I was even 25 and these people were older than me! Grown men coming up to my desk at work tell me "I'm hungry" or even just a simple "Feed me" while perched atop my cubicle like a starving pigeon and we'd laugh and joke and sure enough I would buy or bring in something good to eat. I'm the kind of friend that for your birthday from me your most likely to get something we saw in a store window months ago, just to surprise you and make you happy cause it was meaningful to you. Also very kind to those I don't know who seem to be in need, even when we didn't speak the same language, they were drunk and I didn't know if I was walking into trouble.
Somewhere between then and now my life has turned completely upside down. The weight of what I had previously survived (praise God) and what I am now going through don't balance anymore. I lost that home and car and job due to a disability and even though by now you must think me a generally upbeat, diligent, resourceful, praise his name in wrong or right soul I'm lost and I need to rebuild. My entire support system was slowly picked off by my family and close friends life circumstances. I hate telling people how it all happened because to me it sounds like I'm saying I'm cursed and horrible things just keep happening to me. I accept my responsibility for my end and do self checks constantly. Even when thrown into situations far beyond my years, or no one should expect and try to deal with careful thought, civility and grace.
The one last thing I had to hold on to, that was keeping me strong and helping me grow as a person was the love I thought I had but apparently I did not. Lying, fear, cheating, HIV, emotional abuse, sneakiness, poverty, hurt, uncertainty, finding out the person who was the love of your life gave him HIV on purpose but still didn't want him!, cancer and treatments, severely persistent and mental illnesses, self-centeredness, the loss of friends and family acting shady and all that was just my relationship with my EX! So of course me being me for the most part stowed my problems.. "as usual" even if it left me in a bad spot financially, emotionally or physically and I was there! Loving and Supportive even after I was almost attacked. It's a fine line between being a damn fool and doing the right thing, I know but now I'm all on my own. I'm on medicare but the co-pays and deductible are killing me, I can't stay where I am, I'm fat, unhappy and depressed but still thanking God for all the blessing, some time's I feel like asking for more would be an exercise in futility But I'm here. I recently learned that it's ok for me to ask for help. What I'm begging for is to please, please, say a prayer for one another and me! be good to one another and if you could please help me reach my $2,000 goal to a new begining of self sufficiency so I can stop being a broken person and go back to helping others, me and kitty would be forever in your debt and pray for you as well. Amen
Please help me fund my dream!

I recently started up my own opera company and I am looking to fund our inaugural production of Cosi fan tutte. I am seeking funding within the region of $6000 in total but all assistance is most appreciated.
The action has been updated to modern day Italy, we have our whole cast and venue up and ready to go. But the dream will vanish if we cannot get the money behind it.
You can find out more details about the project here:
http://www.pozible.com.au/index.php/archive/index/4727/description/0/0
We have a performance target date of March 18 2012 for the venture which is why we are looking for the money immediately. This is the best date to tie in with our venue, the beautiful Makers Market at Abbotsford.
Funds include costuming and props, set design, hiring chamber orchestra and instruments, publicity, payment of director and music director, buying rights to specific images and creating posters and programmes. The artists, including myself, are NOT making any money from the venture and are giving up their time for free.
I am a highly motivated self-starter with extensive experience in both the practical and administrative side of the arts. In return for your valuable help I am able to assist you to get your own business projects up off the ground in areas such as data entry, copywriting, editing, proofing and the creative process. Or if you are a creative organisation or individual needing a hand, whether it be through performance or administrative matters, I would be happy to help you free of charge.
Additionally, my wonderful troupe of singers can perform at your next corporate functioning or gathering - we will even travel as a special thank you!
This is an exciting new initiative that you and/or your business can get involved in from the ground level. I guarantee that this venture will make money - so if it is difficult for you to get involved as a donor, we can organise a repayment scheme.
I can't tell you how grateful I am. Thank you so much for your time.
Please help me achieve my dream!

I think everybody should just sent her some money, rather than judging her. I would like to get one million people to donate $5 each, so that she can have 5 million dollars to take care of her kids. The cyberbeg is for her and her kids.
She might be irresponsible, and inarticulate but she needs to raise the kids. Hating on her is bullshit.
Look, GE pays no taxes, no federal taxes, no state taxes, 'earned $14.2 billion in profits in 2010,...In fact, GE got a $3.2 billion tax benefit.' (http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oG7lxGM.xOpxQA71BXNyoA?p=GE+pays+no+taxes+scamming+the+system&fr2=sb-top&fr=yfp-t-701&type_param=). In fact, GE got a $3.2 billion tax benefit.' A tax benefits also known as corporate welfare. The CEO of GE works with President Obama. Ge is exporting jobs out of the US, and has it's money outside of the US. But no public outrage about this.
Why do people have less outrage for GE's irresponsible to pay taxes, and more outrage for a women trying to raise 15 kids?
Stop being a corporate ass kisser, and help the woman raise the 15 kids.
I dont know what to do any more

What's Ryan need money for? Moving, credit cards he's already maxed over the summer, food, rent, and gas. The normal expenses of life to last me until late August, at which point I can resume living on loan money. My federal loans were maxed during the normal terms, so my options are to either get a paying job or find some other way to come up with the money.

Help me realize my Dream @ USD 600,000.......if you can do miracle like Angels.
Posted by Unlucky1 on 2011-01-11 08:58:58
I am a young man aged 25yrs,living with parents or rather at their mercy.I completed my education by securing a Master's Diploma in Advanced Biotechnology and was previously employed as a Business Development officer with a Pharmaceutical concern. But things had never been easy with me.
The company I worked used to exploit my abilities vastly and I was paid only USD 1800 a year. They also delayed every incentives that was earned by me,eventually this led to a aversion for the job and the company I worked for and I did Quit it a couple of months ago. They are yet to pay me my dues........
I always had a dream to become a big entrepreneur someday and always had thought I would develop and venture the family business into new arenas where there would be lots of revenue. But my Dad never consents to my ideas and treats me as if I am a retard. He always challenges me to begin a business on my own and generate revenues greater than him in order to prove myself.
Hence my financial freedom is at great stake now........even after being educated and having been honest in the way I lead my life I have lost the basic essence of living a life being separated from my financial freedom, career and the Entrepreneurial dream which is now desperately begging your help.
My idea of Business: my nation of stay is a large agro-based economy. The major percentage of its revenue comes from agriculture. The most needed product in the agriculture industry is Fertiliser. But the Government is now encouraging the use of Biofertlisers more. Many big corporate houses has already ventured into this market and earning the profits. But as is the way,in the very competitive market of our country two things say the final word : Money and Hard Work.......the market demands and the supplier has to deliver, quality and high price doesn't finds the buyer nor does smart ideas.
Now for such an Industry, money is needed of all things even to step out a little and so long I have found no concerns that is ready to lend money without some conditions like:
1. Mortgage of Property:I don't have any,I am a little more than a slave for my parents.
2. Credentials form a past Business: If I really had a Business of my own,I wouldn't have went to ask money from a lender.
3. Smart Business plan: I have made many plans but none of them seem to satisfy any investors who always looks for whats in it for them........I am tired convincing them honestly and I have no money to build a flawless project report from experienced consultants.
Hence,my last resort is here,to grab a pan and beg a fortune.Gentlemen,I know the amount I ask for might be enormous except for the lucky millionaires and billionaires who spends such an amount overnight partying or buying an expensive vehicle for their near and dear ones........but it is also true that this amount can change an unlucky man's life forever.
I am not the kind of person who would login every other day and spam the net with heart breaking stories and ask someone else to pay my bills for eternity.........
I am someone who wants to take control of his own life that had been massacred by misfortune.
For that,I need your help now.........any benevolent person who had been blessed with wealth and opulence please help me take control of my life. For me it would be a miracle and as my last resort,I would be convinced that there are kind souls still on earth for whom money is not everything but greatness is.
I have no Paypal account as of now, please find me at this email address here : don2028@gmail.com,if you think you can help this beggar here.
May the Almighty bless you with all luck and prosperity,
Regards,
Unlucky1.
Please help start a small business full of big dreams!

I have been managing a corporate salon in the Rockville MD area for about 3 years now and have built the most amazing team of stylists that this area will ever know. But! We have big dreams, dreams that a corporate environment just does not encourage. We love our clients and our community and we want to make community service a major part of our business focus because we have discovered that beauty absolutely begins on the inside. Also we want to be able to take on new talent and apprentice a new generation of beauty professionals that put emphasis on the highest quality hair services, excellent customer service, community involvement and a strong sense of pride and community.
Last, and perhaps most of all I want my two little girls to grow up knowing that their mom built something that is inherently good and something they can truly be proud of.
I need $50,000 to realize my dreams. Please find it in your heart to help, even the smallest donation is appreciated from the very bottom of my heart.
Thank You
Bad Patch

I have not had much luck with men. I have been out with a lunatic, a drunk, a manic depressive, an idiot and several cheats. All that changed when I met Max.
Max and I worked in the same company. I worked in Business Debt Collection (Call centre) and he worked in Group or Corporate accounts. Basically, a friend of mine gave me his name to use if I ever came across one of these accounts and I said "That is the name of the man I am going to marry".
We began emailing. 18 months passed, and in that time I went out with some of the no-hopes I described above. Anyway. I moved departments to Domestic accounts and all but forgot about Max...
...until the day I saw the login code M5200. I KNEW it was him, I remembered his login code. I called his extension and we talked for the first time. He was the sweetest guy with the sweetest voice. I knew we had to meet. So eventually, after 18 months of emailing, we decided to meet for a break. We had been working in the same building for almost 6 months without knowing it!
We met for a break and really got on well. After that I wanted to go out with him properly. So I mailed him (old habits die hard) and asked him what I should do as I wanted to see soccer (I'm English lol) but none of my friends could make it...he offered to keep me company. We did and had a great time. Even when he kissed me when England scored the only goal of the game!!!!!
The rest is history. We moved in together a year later, much to everyone's astonishment!
Then, 2 weeks ago, on our 4th anniversary, he asked me a very important question. He asked me to marry him and gave me a ring. I said yes. Of course!!!!!!!!!!
Now this is where my luck goes bad...we were out last night and my ring came off my finger. It was a £400 ring!!!! I felt ill when I realised what had happened and still do. Even worse, I now have raging toothache and need dental treatment but cannot afford it. :(
Please, please, please someone help me!!! I'm in despair at the moment and in pain, both in my heart and my tooth. Max said it doesn't matter but it does, it really does. :( I need the money in order to get a replacement but cannot get a loan out. :(
If someone could help me it would restore my faith in humanity.
Thank you so much for reading.
God bless you always. xxx

If Angels are out there They WILL find Me
Posted by pzen02p on 2010-06-29 13:58:58
First of all I have to say that I am sceptical of these online pleadings so I won't get my hopes up and expect miraculous results. But...if angels are out there, perhaps the will find me.
I am not here asking for money for rent, bills, food or to put cash in my pocket at the expense of others' generosity. If I had the extra money or means I would, and do always help others that need it. I simply want to do something nice for my family but have no way to do it.
I have been on unemployment due to a no-recall layoff for a year and a half now. Due to the economy and lack of employers in such a rural area, what few chances for employment would appear, were and are quickly scooped up. Three months ago a prayer was answered when I found work through a temp agency to work at a local auto parts manufacturer. This was a temp to hire position with an opportunity to be hired on permanantly with benefits after a 90 day probation period. When the probation period was up and I would be eligible for direct hire, you guessed it...I and a few others were let go. Good ole' corporate america for ya.
My wife has a job that she enjoys and excells at yet her pay is extremely poor (7.85 hr). She also is going to school full time to help advance in her field. Our three kids are outstanding. All A students and active with sports and other various activities. My oldest daughter who is 14, took it upon herself to get a part time job after school to pay for the dance and voice classes she loves.
My wife and I have just enough to cover our rent, food and bills with little or nothing left. We get by and that is ok with us.
My plea is for help to take them on a nice vacation to the shore this summer. We havent been able to do this in nearly ten years. They all work extremely hard and deserve to do something nice this summer. Due to our situation, I cannot afford to do this for them at this time.
I would like very much to get some money to take them to the Maryland/Delaware coast area as this is close and wouldnt be as bad on the fuel price. I hope someone can answer this prayer for me. All donations will be repaid as I am not a freeloader. Something along the lines of a repayment plan could be implied. A donation of a condo or hotel would also be ideal.
Thank you all for your time and help!
C.
