Unemployed-Trying to Keep My Home
Posted by rusearchin4me on 2012-03-31 18:58:29
In 2003, I got a job working from home doing bookkeeping over the internet. It was perfect because I only had to deal with people over the phone. I can do that. I worked at my job for 8.5 years. Then when the economy went bad, our company lost many clients. I was one of 3 full time people and many of the clients we lost were mine. My boss let me go as he felt I was losing too many clients. He paid me three months of severance pay but that ended in August 2011. I paid my mortgage up until that point.
That's when I applied for unemployment. After fighting with the Virginia Employment Commission for 7 months, I went to court on March 28, 2012 and was denied any benefits.
I have been looking for a job since May 2011 to no avail. Currently, I have 4.12 in my checking account. I am 9 months behind on my mortgage. I need to raise 10,000.00 in order to keep my house. Please, any amount would be a start. Thank You!
Young college grad facing hard times

My name is Carol, and I live in Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Science degree. I have struggled to find a job after graduation so I had to move back in with my parents. However, my parents live in a small rural town so the only jobs I could find were minimum wage with no room for growth. I took a risk and moved back to Philadelphia with the little money I had in hopes of finding more opportunities. I lived off of what I desperately scraped together and a tiny bit of accident settlement money. I finally found a great opportunity, but I just started and it is commission based, so I won't be getting a paycheck for a few weeks and my rent is due. I have nothing to my name and I have nothing left to sell. I want to stay here to see this wonderful position through. But I need to pay my rent in order to go to work. I would love to reciprocate someone's goodwill and help by paying it forward to someone else who needs help.
Nearly Drowning Thanks To Breakup

Steven: An Aspiring Disabled, Student, Veteran, and Divorcee

Thanks for taking the time to read my request. I'm 30 years old, still in college and living with my parents. I've made a lot of great accomplishments in my life with far less support than most people who make it this far. Of course, with that said I've also made plenty of mistakes.
I grew up with a single parent, and another parent who visited annually just to stir up emotions and make my life miserable. When I was 18, I decided to work really hard to lose weight so that I could join the US Air Force. I had a strict plan that I was going to follow to succeed in life.
Unfortunately my superiors in the USAF would not accommodate that plan to independence as they forced me to find my own way from the barracks to work (a 40 mi drive), so I had to immediately struggle to get my drivers licence and I had to buy a car on an Airman's paygrade.
My income wasn't enough to afford the car and gas and other living needs that I was expected to pay, so eventually I had to leave the Air Force before my term was up (under honorable conditions). I tried to work as a civilian. The transfer was tough and I was vastly uninformed about what to do and what my options were. I'm the first first generation college student of my extended family.
After some petty jobs that would each take more than 10 years to be able to earn enough to live independently, I finally found a nice nighttime custodian job that was at least simple enough for that kind of pay. I was the night time custodian, but I was also a guy to have on call at this retirement home where I worked. If people's toilets flooded or a nearly deaf resident left their tv on past quiet hours (once I could hear one through 3 floors!) I was the guy to send up to fix it.
Having my first satisfying job as a civilian, I was able to investigate community college during the day, so eventually I enrolled and tried taking a few classes while working full-time. College was my saving grace. I never felt like I belonged anywhere until I first started to take college courses in math, science, and philosophy. I found the tutoring lounge on campus, made a lot of friends there, and I spent many hours cramming and helping those in need.
This soon led to me finding financial aid, making arrangements with my parents (my mom and my stepfather) to let me go to school full-time while I lived with them, and putting in my 2 weeks notice at work to focus exclusively on school.
My counselors advised that I pick where I want to transfer to and then figure out the details of how to get there after I got accepted. I think this was bad advice. While I ended up choosing to transfer to a university that had my desired major, Biophysics, it was 60 miles away from where my parents lived. My car that I had bought when I was in the Air Force also eventually broke down from not being able to afford maintenance while I worked, and was towed away for being in the public street for too long.
Finally, I got accepted to UC San Diego to work towards a degree in Physics with a specialty in Biophysics. When it came time to transfer, I got as involved as I could on how and when I was supposed to receive the financial aid so that I could go get an apartment and everything, and my school kept telling me, "you should get it tomorrow" until about 2 weeks into my first quarter when I finally got the support.
Despite this rocky start, I managed to get into a good shape for myself, making my way slowly but surely through school. Learning a great deal. Eventually when I felt the struggle was too difficult, I changed my major to Neuroscience before I began my upper division coursework.
So, as I settled into my schooling and struggled with maintaining financial independence on financial aid, I managed to get myself into maintaining a great aquarium hobby, owned two great little kittens from a street cat program, led as president of a student organization for one year, and eventually I got married. I also carefully learned about the stock market and managed to make some great gains with money that I had invested from financial aid savings.
In 2010, my gains were over 100%. That amounted to $2000 doubling itself, but still, that says a lot about me as a trader. However, 6 months into my marriage, she said she wanted out, grabbed the car that we both paid into (most of the money was mine from stocks; $5500 worth), and refused to pay her share of 2 months rent. That happened in December of the year of 2010.
2011 was a difficult year for me. I fought hard to maintain things, especially my head, but it was tough. I lost 45 lbs from exercising regularly, made lots of new friends, and I got some volunteer work experience in a Neuroscience lab. But I just couldn't focus well enough to maintain my finances and my grades, so I had to drop out and live back with my parents.
Despite how tough it's been, not finding work, struggling with the ins and outs of the VA, and just needing a professional therapist to talk to and help me keep my head straight but never being able to get one, I've managed to recuperate well enough and learn a lot more about this bottom floor of society that I've been so desperately trying to escape my whole life.
I've gone looking for opportunity in every direction. I've tried changing my career goals, collecting recyclables, writing online, trying any online scheme that didn't include me forking out money to get it, imagining what I could write as a novel, tried to make money through playing video games, making goal after goal after goal for myself, but still just not being able to get just the right amount of money to put me back on my feet.
I'll be going back to school in April at the risk of having to do it as a homeless person if the VA doesn't pull through for me. They recently approved my 10% service connected disability status and now I need to jump over a few more hurdles to get my more significant service connected disabilities recognized. I'm also seeing what the vocational rehab people can do for me despite the bureaucratic issues that are stopping them from helping me all the way.
BTW, this whole time that I've gone through life with common lower class difficulties, I've been disabled with a number of small conditions that all add up to a hard time. I have lower back issues that the military has yet to own up to. Community college found also that I have a learning disability which makes some intellectual tasks show up as lower than average ability for me while the rest of my intellect is high enough to expect that I could easily get a Masters Degree or a PhD. My biggest difficulty in school is that they don't give me enough time to show them what I know or what I'm capable of.
From working with special needs students as a tutor, I have proven to myself that there is a major problem in the education system. Most teachers never simplify the material into a clear picture of what they want to teach. If you want someone to learn something, the last thing you should be fuzzy on is what it is exactly that you want them to learn. We can't all work like intuitive Jedi or sophisticated parrots.
If you help me out, here is a list of the priorities of what your money will go towards, in order of their priority If you would like to request that I spend your donation on a specific cause, please let me know:
1. A working cheap economic vehicle.
I need something that I can sleep in and that will take me wherever I need to go. Preferably something that can stow quite a few recyclables as well to pay for gas, but not an SUV or truck or van (Unless that's all that is cheap of course. Not likely but you never know.).
I'll aim for great gas mileage, but I'm thinking that I should attend some police car auctions to see what the cheapest deal I can find is. This car would make a great shelter for me while I return to my far away school.
2. Investing on the stock market.
Trust me, I know how to fish. If you want to send me a request for proof I'd be glad to compose some evidence of my finest moments as well as my worst to show you that I can do well for myself on the stock market, even during the recession. What I could really use right now, is a little bait. Trading is good money for me, but to make enough to make gains worth more than the commission cost (about $10), you need about $300-1000 per investment. $300 is more for the high risk lottery plays on the market. I even made a blog about it if you would like to see:
http://www.squidoo.com/TheYoungidealistEconomyBlog
If you are willing, we can arrange something personal so that you wont need to worry about me putting the money you offer at high risk and blow it all. Might even be able to arrange something where I could make money for you to prove myself before accepting your donation. Whatever the case, I know we'd have to make it a personal arrangement to satisfy the current laws.
3. Working towards paying my debts to my friends.
My friends have been really supportive through these hard times, though they are starving students themselves. To keep up my morale they've bought me food, given me a place to crash when they could, and even paid to have me join them at fun local events. I have some money that I've promised them back, and I plan on making due on those promises as soon as possible.
4. Paying off my debts with companies.
I've had times where I couldn't afford to pay for rent and had to leave, like when my wife left me to live with her parents. These issues follow me on my credit score and I would like to work towards removing them so that I can turn my life around.
5. Getting a good start towards paying off my student loans.
I know I won't be able to pay them off before I find a good career with my degree. I would just like to have something to start making some automatic payments with and put that part of my bad credit score behind me as well.
6. Buying a home.
My mom never owned a home. No offense meant to land lords out there, but I really think the rental system is way out of line. My mom was always a hard worker. Way better than me, yet she could never own a home because she didn't have the money. Meanwhile, people with money could live in great big houses for less than she even had to pay.
I want a house to own. Probably start with a condo and seek ways to improve it and flip a profit out of it. Then I want to keep building up money from housing until I can manage to build an apartment building.
If I could, I'd like to make an apartment building near a university that offers cheap housing using the Japanese capsule model or something even more economic and more comfortable.
7. Making an online tutoring site meant to offer free tutoring and tutoring for tips. Imagine a site (I have yet to know of one) where people can collect their resources on a class, much like they collect info on ratemyprofessor.com, but also seek help from others who are taking the class or who have taken the class. Donors like you can offer money to tutors who post their notes and stories on the site, alongside ratings from other students that they helped.
Some tutors can offer their rates for help, sell their notes online for cheap, or just offer their help whenever they can and ask to be tipped through paypal if someone likes their work. My hope is that such a site could help to put an end to sophistry in the college system once and for all, making education easy and affordable for everyone.
8. After I have everything I'm hoping for above, the sky is the limit. But I would prefer to put the extra money that I don't need to good uses. I would spread a little philanthropy around, give to others in need on this site and through other resources.
I'd also look to teach others how to fish. I think a great way for the economy to be fixed would be if philanthropists made some really good employee owned companies. Make the place pay for itself, skim a little off the top, and walk away knowing that you really were a job creator.
I think that everyone who is capable of work and who chooses to work deserves to have their own independent living situation. I know that we are a long way from that, but I tend to be an optimist. I would like to try and make the world a better place, if nothing else.
Aside form financial help, I'm interested in anything else that I could get that's useful. Advice, Neuroscience Career connections, work, hobby or volunteer work that can easily become lucrative, I'm really all ears. Thanks again for taking the time to read my request. I hope you find it in you to help me out, even get to know me if you'd like. Bet you $5000 I can make you laugh. Did I win? >;) it was worth a try anyway.

99%? What about the 49%?
I do not believe I have any dedicated followers to this blog that I started about a week ago. I have added to the end of my blogs a donate button and I feel I need to justify the decision to do so. That is what this blog is about, and it probably should have been my first post.
It seems like there are three groups of people in America.
There is the rich. They get tax breaks simply for being rich. The philosophy is that if they spend less on taxes then they will invest it into production and buying stuff and it will âtrickle down.â I am all for it if it works. But it doesnât. They have had their tax breaks for about ten years and there isnât anything trickling down my way.
Then there is the very poor. They claim to be incapable of working 40 hours a week because of mental or physical issues. They donât get up very early in the morning, they donât worry about the way they look. They collect social security, food stamps, unemployment and whatever else they can get for free. I know there are some people that legitimately can not work but I think there are a great deal of people that can and choose not to.
Instead of the 99% movement lets start a 49% movement.1% is uber-wealthy. About 50% pay no taxes and/or are a drain on our society. So that leaves 49%. I am the 49 percent and that fucking sucks! We canât get ahead and we canât get a hand.
Let me tell you a little more about myself. I work 60+ hours as a salesperson, which is non-commission based position. There are some things we can sell and if we sell it at a certain margin we can get a âspiff.â Unfortunately I sell building materials and not a lot of people are building right now. Also the the things that you can get a spiff on are high-end items that are difficult to sell in a good economy. I still try like hell though. In the interest of getting as many hours as possible there is no job I will not do or that is too menial. I will sell, I will work out in the yard and drive a forklift, do deliveries, stack lumber, shovel snow, sweep, empty trash, stock shelves, answer the phone, work the register or anything else that will keep me from getting sent home or laid off.
I started this blog about a week ago. I was looking for another way to make money doing something I enjoyed in my âspareâ time. As well as working 60 hours a week I am also a divorced dad that takes his kids every weekend. So there isnât a whole lot of time for a second job. I looked into the Ebay thing and realized I really donât have anything left to sell.
Also looked into doing surveys. On average you can get a dollar for each 45-60 minute survey you take. I still do this occasionally. If I have time and can find a few that I feel are worth my time. Any little amount helps.
I thought I might eventually be able to monetize this blog by putting up enough content to get advertisers interested. It will probably take several months and a lot of writing before this might be possible. Until then I will keep the donate button on here.
My point here is that I started looking for a way to get my head back above water a week ago and things have gotten far worse since then. I went to the grocery store yesterday and in my estimation prices have gone up close to 25% on most of the things I buy. In a week!
And the price of gas....
My job is about a 25 minute commute from where I live. There is no public transportation where I live and I do not think a 25 minute commute is unreasonable. But even with a car that gets 28 miles to the gallon and gas prices being what they are it is a huge strain on the wallet. They are talking about the price of gas going up twenty cents over one weekend! I topped off yesterday in the hopes of saving two bucks.
I donât have the answers but it seems like this system of government and politics doesnât work. We elect a Republican for 4-8 years and when they fail to fix everything we elect a Democrat. They donât make our problems go away either and in another 4-8 years we try another Republican and so on. Its like having two cartons of milk in the refrigerator. You take a sip of one carton and its sour, you take a sip from the other carton and it is sour too. So you try the first carton again. What? Itâs still sour? Weird. Maybe we should try the second carton again....
Come on people! Canât we get together? We need to throw out the rotten fucking milk, get off our dead asses and get down to the store and buy some fresh fucking milk!
I was already falling behind. Then it only took one small medical emergency and one car repair to put me even further in the hole. Between money I had to put up for office visits, medical procedures that had to be done, car repairs, and lost time at work it cost me over a thousand dollars that I did not have to spend. Now I am possibly facing eviction.
And I know there are people out there that need the money far more than I do. I donât have cancer, my kids do not need a life-saving medical procedure and I am not living on the streets yet. All I am asking is that if you understand where I am coming from and you like what I have to say help me out and donate a couple of bucks. I am not asking you to âgive until it hurts,â and if you donât have it to give then I donât want it.
If you canât help me out by donating money, then help me out by sounding off in the comments and telling me how I can make this blog better or what I should do different. I openly welcome harsh criticism and all opposing viewpoints.
I am not looking for millions of dollars, thousands of dollars or even hundreds of dollars. I would be very happy with tens of dollars. Ten bucks accumulated over a week from several people would be a huge shot in the arm right now. If I made an extra ten bucks from donations it would buy me enough gas to get back and forth to work for two days. Or it would cover the rising cost of my grocery bill. Right now that would be huge.
Give what you can. Every penny counts. Or offer your suggestions or both. Donate some obscure amount and put that same amount in the comments or send me an email telling me the obscure amount you donated and I will reply personally to those comments and emails. I will probably respond whether you donate or not.

If I lose my home, I lose everything, including my 2 cats. It would be devastating to me if i lost them.
I have appled for unemployment. Unfortunately, I was out of work for quite some time since I was only going to school and before that I was living at home as a stay-at-home dad/brother/son. So basically, I do not qualify since I havenâÂÂt accumulated the ammount of hours I need. Also, in my past, I was into drugs and have a felony drug possession which bars me from so many opportunities. It was almost 6 years ago and IâÂÂve changed a lot since then but it still haunts me. IâÂÂm starting to feel like I want to give up on life altogether. I started going back to church and cleaned my life up since thenâ¦
A few months ago, I got a job at 7-Eleven and was using that to survive on. About a month into my job, my boss called me and told me I canâÂÂt work there anymore because of my background check. Basicly got fired for the crimes I mentioned above. This crushed me. Then I found work at a restaurant and lasted there for another month. I lost that job as well because of a false accusation I had nothing to do with. I tried to speak on my defense but my boss wouldnâÂÂt hear it. This crushed me too. So, out of desperation, I looked for work again and fell into Kirby⦠If anyone knows what this is, they can understand I was completely scammed. They made promises of $1850/month salary. I needed to make a quota of sales to earn that. Wellâ¦. they made it impossible for me to achieve that goal by the way the company is ran. I was working 80+ hours a week. In that time, I got very sick, broke my glassses, couldnâÂÂt make it to church or my community group and everything was going down hill fast. I sold 3 Kirbys in that time and my boss says I will make a measly $75 commission total off those. I am physically, emotionally and spiritually drained because of thisâ¦
My rent was due on the 5th and I donâÂÂt have a penny to show for it. I am on bad terms with my landlord now and have no idea what to do. IâÂÂm struggling so much and feel like IâÂÂm only spinning my wheels getting nowhere. What can I do?! If I lose my home, I lose EVERYTHING, including my 2 cats which I love more than anything... I worked so hard for Kirby and got nothing but a few bucks coming to me. All my time was wasted.
What can I do? I need a âÂÂ3 day pay or vacateâ notice to receive any kind of rent assistance from an agency. All I want to do is to work and make money like everyone else but everything I do fails⦠I canâÂÂt get work that requires a background check and have no transportation or money for a bus. My home has no food either and IâÂÂm about to lose my mind.
I donâÂÂt know what else to do but BEG on this website and pray someone is generous enough to help. I know after working 80+ hours a week in Kirby in the worst conditions that I have the drive and strength to work hard. All I need is some time to find work again.
Thanks so much for reading my story and thank you even more for donating. I hope this is the door God has opened for me to make that miracle.

Thanks so much for reading my story and thank you even more for donating. I hope this is the door God has opened for me to make that miracle.
Must save my home and family!

Pregnant dog rescuer needs your help
Posted by Laurisa77 on 2012-01-10 11:58:29
I have been a dog rescuer for over 10 years, working as a foster parent for my local humane society. This is 100% a volunteer position that I donate a lot of my time, energy and resources to. In the past 10 years I have rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed over 300 dogs and puppies.
I do have a full-time job to pay my bills. I am a hard worker and have been at my current job for 6 years. However, due to the economy in my area, my income recently took a sharp nosedive. I am looking for additional work to supplement my income and/or a different full-time job (that is not commission based).
Unfortunately, my bills are now behind and my home is in foreclosure. I own a small farm in the country and have a great set-up for the foster work that I do and a great place to raise a child. Rentals in our area tend to be higher than what my mortgage payment is now ($550), so moving wouldn't be a better move for me financially. I am currently 3 payments behind.
With cold weather here now, my electric bill has spiked and is now averaging about $195 a month (most months it is only about $85-$90).
I own my vehicle outright, but it's older and seems to be in need of more and more repairs. Right now I am in debt to my mechanic $165 for brake work he did 2 weeks ago. It's an older SUV and a gas guzzler.
I do not live a fancy lifestyle, by any means. I do not have cable tv, high-speed internet, new clothes or shoes, expensive purses or designer sunglasses. I live a very modest and healthy life and do not believe in waste. I'm not a drinker, not a smoker and do not use drugs of any kind.
The humane society foots in the bill on all of the foster-dog related expenses (vet care, food, toys, etc.), so I have no money going out towards that. I have cut back on the number of dogs that I foster, from 2-3 at a time to just 1. I am a responsible foster parent and in no way a hoarder.
I intend to continue fostering up until I have the baby (due date is August 15th). I get so much personal fulfillment out of rescue work and I know will miss it when the baby comes. However, I know that I will want to focus 100% on my child and being the best mom I can be.
I have always been a big believer in paying it forward to the greater good. I'm hoping that this plea will reach someone out there who is currently in a comfortable financial position and willing to assist someone who is not.
I can, and will, provide proof of any of the facts I stated above, including a letter from my employer, a letter from the humane society director, copies of my utility bills, mortgage bill, etc., upon request.
Family of 6 in Need of Car Repairs
Posted by Feel on 2011-12-12 21:58:05
Its hard to make due with only one vehicle when the four kids have to go to doctors appointments and such. My wife works 1 hour commute away and I have to drive her with the kids back and forth if there is an appointment. This spends the whole day and lots of gas just for one appointment.
We have a second vehicle with good 4 wheel drive but the front end needs work at least $1000.00 in work. It was my wifeâs commute vehicle until we got screwed by a tow truck company. Only the rich can afford lawyers to get our money back.
So we are looking at two older vehicles that need work. One out of commission the other getting us by, but for how long.
Because of this I am house bound with all four kids most days. Life is starting to drive me crazy without wheels to at least take the kids some place and have some adult conversation.
I find myself going stir crazy being house bound. Even to go to the food pantry my wife had to take time off work so we had wheels and then make up the time later in the week.
I feel better just talking about it. Just knowing someone is listing makes me feel at ease. Thank you for your time.
2 months behind
Posted by LVchiquita on 2011-09-30 14:58:29
I am 2 month behind in my rent and the only phone calls I get are from bill collectors. I am in sales but my sales have dwindled by 75% over the last few years due to the economy and too much competition in my industry. I am barely getting by, thank goodness for the $1.00 store!. I started a new job, but it is commission only and I haven't sold anything as yet. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Donations Needed to Pay Rent, Bills, Buy Groceries, and Support My Family
Posted by gotmark on 2011-05-30 15:58:21
I am currently unemployed since 03/28/2011 and have been only able to get by with money I had saved for my emergency fund. Thankfully I had this saved up but I'm now out of money and do not have any immediate resources that can provide assistance.
The Texas Work Force Commission says I'm ineligible for unemployment insurance because my employer, a small company with a CEO that would yell at employees all the time told them I quit my job. This is not the case, I was told to leave for no reason during a meeting without warning. I'm in the process of appealing my case for a hearing, but the process will take weeks before they can determine a hearing date and determine if I'm eligible.
I am very detail oriented and have applied to 306 different positions since I was let go. I've been on 8 interviews and have another lined up for tomorrow. I have been applying to jobs that are relevant to my job skills and qualifications, which is search engine optimization (SEO), customer service, and inside sales. Most of the positions I've had the chance to interview with have stiff competition and some are still in the searching process. I needed a job 2 months ago. Recently, I was able to get hired for a retail position that pays $7.25 an hour. At this point I will sweep the floors for someone to hire me. This position starts June 6th.
Anyhow, in the midst of all this, I have an 11 year old daughter, and a 3 year old son. I've been married for 11 years and my wife does what she can as a baker for birthdays, weddings and holidays. She brings in about $300 a month which she contributes to groceries and kids clothes.
I'm dedicated and hard working and want to be able to pay my bills and support my family.
Here is a breakdown of my expenses:
Rent: $1195 per month
Car Payments: $720 per month
Car/Rental Insurance: $320 per month
Cable/Internet: $165 per month
Sallie Mae Student Loan: $60.00 per month (past Due 17 days)
Water/Trash Utilities:$60 per month
Groceries: $600 month
Gas: $200 per month
Total Expenses: $3320 per month
Currently, I have $900 to my name. Today in 05/30/2011 and I have to pay rent by June 3rd.
If there is anyone out there who would be willing to make a donation I can provide a tax receipt so you can use it as a write off when you file your taxes. Also, I will be willing to create a website or provide my SEO services as a way help your business get found on the front page of Google, Yahoo, and Bing.
I am glad I found this site and I hope it works! Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you send a donation I will provide a picture of my family and as well as an update on our status.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Pay it Forward

I drive a 1995 Mustang GT. With gas prices well over $4 a gallon, I'm putting in gas every week - $240 a month now and my schooling doesn't start until October. My car IS paid off, but I drive 20 miles every day for work (which is commission, so sometimes I work and make $0) and my nursing school will be about 15+ miles away on top of that. Not to mention when clinicals start I will be all over the place here. That's more than a brand new car payment every month in gas. So I titled this chipin event to include a car. Basically, any money donated will go towards my tuition and/or a car with better gas mileage.
My tuition costs are a little more than $50,000 for my 2 year bachelor program. Just know that any donation you make will not only help me, but help save many lives in the future. With your help, I will be able to get through schooling and pay it forward by saving lives every single day. And I appreciate ANYTHING given, even if it's 50 cents.
Even though I need the money myself, I plan to 'pay it forward' by donating some here and there on this site.
