Extended Family In Need

Posted by Gladys on 2012-05-02 02:58:37

What do you say when you are entreating an entire world of strangers to come to your aid? How do you sound deserving of their help? How do you express, without writing a novel, why you are in need, how you came to be there, how you came to choose this way of seeking help, and how very afraid you feel.
First, the reason I chose this method. I was feeling frustrated one night after being asked to work another fund raiser. While there is no doubt that the family is very much in need their financial security was markedly better than my own. I was wondering why it seemed that it was always people who already had some means at their disposal who got that kind of sympathy and help. Obviously I was feeling self centered but still the thought remained, what kind of resources were there out there for people like me, people barely above poverty level and struggling to keep from going under. So...I started searching the internet and came across references to "begging" online. I was shocked, I was appalled...I was hopeful. The anonymity of it was a big plus.
Feeling so hopeless, and out of control is very frightening for me. I work with the public. The street people call me Smiley because I try to always stay upbeat while at work and they know that if I can I will always help them with a dollar or two when they need it. There are many people ( even those who are only a few years younger than my 55) who call me Mom and have come to me for assistance both emotionally and financially. I have two adult children of my own and many more that have come through my household and are a part of my family even though they are not related biologically. I send my own Mother money a couple times a month. She lives on a fixed income that doesn't even cover here cost of living. I can no longer afford these things but I don't know how to cut off the aid to others even though I, myself, am in need of aid.
My husband and I come from poor families and were determined to make a better life for our own children. Since we both only had high school educations neither one of us are in well paying jobs but we have always managed to survive and our children never had to worry about whether Mom and Dad were going to be able to feed and clothe them. But things have gotten progressively worse this year.
I tried to start a small business in order to provide my oldest grandchildren and one of my children with a secure job and something meaningful to do. Trying to keep them out of the "system" and teach them to have self respect, and trying to provide a means for them to have financial security. But the business never picked up and we were funneling money into it...my daughter lost her husband and we were also supporting her household. The financial strain has put us in debt that we cannot pay. Our cars have broken down, there are three running vehicles for six drivers to use getting to work and looking for work but no money to repair or replace them. My daughter and her children are living in my home, having lost theirs, and my husband and I are staying with my youngest and her family. Her husband was recently laid off and she is expecting her second child. My husband had to have surgery and that put him off work for six weeks, and now in order to keep his job we have to somehow pay for hearing aids ($3000 for the least expensive ones). Although it is hard we have stuck together and are helping each other as best we can.
The problem is that I see no end in sight. Just the electric bill is $6oo a month thru the winter months. Fuel is outrageous. Food for this many people (5 adults, 3 late teens, and 3 small children) is very expensive in this state. Mortgage payments, gas for cars, and phones...these are things everyone has to pay. I know there are many who are far worse off than I, at least we still have roofs over our heads. But the output is so much higher than the income and each month, each WEEK, sees me feeling a little more desperate. How will I, will we, end up? Will we all be living on the street next year? The interior of Alaska is no climate for the homeless. I don't know what it will take to make this better, to make my family secure but I hope there is help out there for us.

No one knows when it can get to you!

New Ideas

Posted by NewIdeas on 2012-02-27 03:58:09

I am a young entrepreneur attempting to start a new business so that I can start a family with my fiancee. I live in an area with limited economic opportunities and am trying to create jobs for others as well. It is very hard in this climate to get started, but my business is starting to work. Please help me to bring new opportunities to my region.

Need money to relocate.

Posted by arbors on 2012-02-07 12:58:44

Finding work is difficult in New York. I am depressed about my current situation and sometimes feel hopeless. I would like to move to a warmer climate. I would like to help my children financially as well as provide housing for my mentally ill son. Purchasing a house in foreclosure will give us a fresh start and perhaps provide employment for both of us as I would like to start a bed and breakfast business.

Posted by summer_rain on 2012-01-26 17:58:12

hi there!
i am asking for help to buy myself a new wig! unusual request i know but it makes life completely different for me!
i have suffered with alopecia since i was 4, it is a hair loss condition, since getting older and more conscious of my looks i started wearing wigs to feel more feminine and confident in my apperance. however for a descent wig it costs about £700 i make one last for a whole year before buying a new one, previous years i have had help from family and when i was younger the nhs. but i am now 21 and facing another year of trying to find the extra cash for a new wig. i work full time but my wage just seems to meet the bills each month and not alot more. like every young person i am trying my best to save for a house, car and all the usual things. but it is so hard in this climate. any help even if it were $1 would be so appreciated! as a girl it is the worst thing to loose your hair, wearing wigs is a savier to me, so thankyou so very much!

Want to clear my credit card debt of £1700

Posted by scooby on 2012-01-26 06:58:37

I don't have a sob story. I'm really very lucky. This debt accumulated whilst I was in a full time job. My hours have been reduced due to the current climate. Luclily I found another part time job but am still not earning as much as before and am just covering my bills, food and school stuff for the kids. I'd really like to clear my credit card debt but it would be really nice just to be able to find the mimimum monthly payment to pay them too. So, if you do have any money spare, I really would appreciate it.

Home maintenance costs

Posted by lilljen on 2012-01-25 08:58:44

Hi, I'm a single mum of 2 boys and I work exteremely hard to give them a decent life away from benefits! I have managed to purchase our own home 10 years ago and knew that would give them a sound future. But with your own home comes maintenance and with the current climate I am really struggling to make the ends meet! my bills are piling up and we need new windows and doors! The recent storm we had paid to that.
We have had a really bad year. I lost my dad to leukemia in November and we were burgled on christmas day. He took everything we had and turned our home upside down and then I realsied I had let my insurance lapse due to circumstances over the year! ( The burglar was caught thankfully...but nothing returned!!).I find it very hard to ask for help as I have been very independant in my life but I am getting to the stage that I think I might have to sell my home to raise some money. I pray every night that something will change!

Lots of love me and my boys.xxxx

Uni dream

I'm an Alevel student applying for University next September I have had a part time job since the age of 16 but in the current climate I had to face a reduction of hours or lose my job. Being on minimum wage and working so little hours I am putting every penny away for university. However looking at accommodation costs and the prices of books I am struggling to see how I can do this on my current income. I am determined to be the first person in my family to go to university and gain a successful career so any help would be hugely appreciated.

In Need Of Help

Posted by AddisonSlade on 2012-01-24 05:58:42

I know this is a longshot as I'll certainly not be the only one in this position but basically I'm just a young, single person, trying to support myself & pay for my flat alone. I might not seem like a worthy case as I'm healthy, have no children etc but it's still a total struggle to get by at times, especially in this economic climate. The main reason I'd like to raise money, other than a bit more financial stability is because my mum has helped me out a lot over the past few years & I've relied on her a lot more than I should have, her hours at work have recently been cut meaning she'll be struggling as well & I'd really like to make a contribution towards paying back all the money she's leant me etc. If you could help at all, even just $1 or even less, every little donation would be appreciated. I know you're probably used to seeing these stories & you don't know me personally but you've no idea how grateful I'd be!

Redundancy

Posted by Scotland04 on 2012-01-23 06:58:17

I have just been made redundant for the second time in 10 years. In the current climate I will be lucky to get any job. I don't know how I am going to pay my bills, car mortgage. I am really worried and depressed. So much so that I really want a change of career. My wife and i have always wanted to open a cafe and make our own cakes. I reckon we would need at least £20,000 downpayment to start this. My company have offered me a months wages in return for 5 years service which is disgraceful.Anything anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated and I hope to return the favour one day.

Laid off Information Technology Student

Posted by vbhiggies on 2011-09-23 01:58:10

I am a 42 year old student working towards my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. Recently, I was laid off from my employer, at which time my daughter (19) and I are both enrolled as full time students at universities in the Chicago area.

I have filed for unemployment insurance and diligently looking for another position in my field of study. I don't want to drop out of school at this time due to the fact that it practically impossible to find another position without a degree due to the current economic climate.

I am struggling to stay afloat and search for employment prospects. Any help that you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
