Student that wants to go to Alaska

Posted by Johnny26 on 2012-05-14 22:58:27

I am asking for donation to go up to Alaska this summer. Plane tickets are really expensive and this is then only year I can do it because the friends I have in Alaska will be leaving to go to college in the fall. Any donations will help. Thank you.

Extended Family In Need

Posted by Gladys on 2012-05-02 02:58:37

What do you say when you are entreating an entire world of strangers to come to your aid? How do you sound deserving of their help? How do you express, without writing a novel, why you are in need, how you came to be there, how you came to choose this way of seeking help, and how very afraid you feel.
First, the reason I chose this method. I was feeling frustrated one night after being asked to work another fund raiser. While there is no doubt that the family is very much in need their financial security was markedly better than my own. I was wondering why it seemed that it was always people who already had some means at their disposal who got that kind of sympathy and help. Obviously I was feeling self centered but still the thought remained, what kind of resources were there out there for people like me, people barely above poverty level and struggling to keep from going under. So...I started searching the internet and came across references to "begging" online. I was shocked, I was appalled...I was hopeful. The anonymity of it was a big plus.
Feeling so hopeless, and out of control is very frightening for me. I work with the public. The street people call me Smiley because I try to always stay upbeat while at work and they know that if I can I will always help them with a dollar or two when they need it. There are many people ( even those who are only a few years younger than my 55) who call me Mom and have come to me for assistance both emotionally and financially. I have two adult children of my own and many more that have come through my household and are a part of my family even though they are not related biologically. I send my own Mother money a couple times a month. She lives on a fixed income that doesn't even cover here cost of living. I can no longer afford these things but I don't know how to cut off the aid to others even though I, myself, am in need of aid.
My husband and I come from poor families and were determined to make a better life for our own children. Since we both only had high school educations neither one of us are in well paying jobs but we have always managed to survive and our children never had to worry about whether Mom and Dad were going to be able to feed and clothe them. But things have gotten progressively worse this year.
I tried to start a small business in order to provide my oldest grandchildren and one of my children with a secure job and something meaningful to do. Trying to keep them out of the "system" and teach them to have self respect, and trying to provide a means for them to have financial security. But the business never picked up and we were funneling money into it...my daughter lost her husband and we were also supporting her household. The financial strain has put us in debt that we cannot pay. Our cars have broken down, there are three running vehicles for six drivers to use getting to work and looking for work but no money to repair or replace them. My daughter and her children are living in my home, having lost theirs, and my husband and I are staying with my youngest and her family. Her husband was recently laid off and she is expecting her second child. My husband had to have surgery and that put him off work for six weeks, and now in order to keep his job we have to somehow pay for hearing aids ($3000 for the least expensive ones). Although it is hard we have stuck together and are helping each other as best we can.
The problem is that I see no end in sight. Just the electric bill is $6oo a month thru the winter months. Fuel is outrageous. Food for this many people (5 adults, 3 late teens, and 3 small children) is very expensive in this state. Mortgage payments, gas for cars, and phones...these are things everyone has to pay. I know there are many who are far worse off than I, at least we still have roofs over our heads. But the output is so much higher than the income and each month, each WEEK, sees me feeling a little more desperate. How will I, will we, end up? Will we all be living on the street next year? The interior of Alaska is no climate for the homeless. I don't know what it will take to make this better, to make my family secure but I hope there is help out there for us.

My own college fund

Posted by clayton-ak on 2012-04-24 15:58:06

I am looking for donations to help me attend college. I live in Alaska and the only schools around are the Universities, which are kind of expensive even with financial aid. I will be the first in my family to attend college, so I am very excited. My family is very poor, so they can not help me pay for such education. I am going into college for my Registered Nursing degree so that I can help people daily for the rest of my life. Every little bit helps and thank you for reading

10 Acres for $8,000 USD

Posted by SchMasHD on 2011-12-21 05:58:53

I am 31 years old with a varied and extensive resume as well as a degree in computer application development (not that that degree is particularly relevant...).
I have found 10 acres of rural land in Alaska.
This land costs $8,000.
I would like to buy the land and build a year round cabin on the property, to live in year round.
I am from a rural background (BC = Before College) and have working knowledge of home building and can gather the required materials from the land and surrounding area for the construction of reliable, comfortable, and sustainable housing. I have done an immense amount of research regarding the accomplishment of my goal (to be independent of today's social requirements) and have formulated a bullet-proof plan to live a comfortable yet remote life away from the hustle and bustle of modern entrapment's and closer to the dream of our ancestors. I am willing to elaborate on my plans regarding the dwelling and the steps I will take to accomplish my goal while sustaining the creature comforts of modern day living.
In addition to my rural upbringing I am also a combat military veteran with working knowledge of para-military and survival tactics.
I have saved enough money to move to the property of my choice from my home state and have also provided for the tools, food, clothing and provisions(including shelter) needed to complete this project, the rest of the requirements of the project will be bought or shipped at or near the building location at my personal expense. I have considered every avenue required to secure financing and have been stopped by my credit alone. Really what matters the most to me is that I will have the opportunity to work for a permanent solution to my financial. social, and economic ills. However, due to my poor credit rating (Thank you 17yr old me) I have been unable to secure financing from "the man" and have been forced to beg of the internet. Please o' please grant me my life... That being said, in addition to the months of preparation I have done, I have secured the willing enlistment of free labor (in the form of an old army buddy) for this project. That being said, with my current financial situation I cannot afford to purchase the land for the cash asking price even though it is 10 acres at a fraction of the price normally requested for that expanse of property. What I am asking for is enough money to purchase the land ($8,000 USD). In return I am willing to spend 2 months every year (during any year) devoted to work for my benefactor for up to 4 consecutive years. Call it hired hand, indentured servitude, slavery, or [insert vague derogatory/demeaning name here]. What matters to me is that if I work my ass off I can be sucessesful. Please O please help me reach my goal. I am at your mercy o awesome and wonderful internet.

Please help our son

Posted by beroc on 2011-10-30 20:58:02

My son was home schooled on his last year in high school. He applied to the University of Alaska and was accepted and also was granted financial aid. Being a home school grad, he was required to take a test or GED. He opted to take the test so I agreed to send him to Alaska but he failed it by 2 points. Then he decided to take the GED and attend class Spring 2012. One day when he dropped his friends at school, he was stopped by a policeman (i don't know what for) and then was taken to the police station and detained for questioning for at least 8 hours. He asked to speak to a lawyer 2x but no lawyer was provided and they stopped talking to him. While detained, the police searched his apartment, truck, took his laptop, and cell phone. His apartment and his truck did not have any of the items they were looking for. They released him and 20 minutes later they arrested him. The only evidence the police have so far is that one of defendants also being accused of the same crime stated that my son was involved. This other defendant, come to find out has a record of stealing. My son insist that he did not do this crime and he is innocent and that he was not even in the area when the crime happened. He has an attorney now and has taken a look at my sons’ case. So far the DA has a photo of his truck at a gas station near his apartment at 6 P.M. This is not unusual since this is where buys his diesel fuel. The crime happened between 10-45-11:00 P.M. after the store closed. This is all the evidence so far. I am writing to beg you for a donation to bail out my son until his court date. We are asking donation for the following: his bail is $40,000 which we need $4000 cash and we are putting up our house as collateral for the remaining $30,000. The lawyer fee is $7500 and our balance is $2400. In addition to the bail, court also requires a third party custodian before an inmate can be released on bail. A custodian is someone who will watch over my son 24/7. My husband, daughter and I will be his third party custodians and we will fly to Alaska and set up another household. We need the 3 of us to be custodians because we also have another son who is a senior in high school and we the parents both want to attend his graduation. When we get there, we will go to my sons bond hearing and also for approval of third party custodian. My husband and I will alternate every 30 days so we can see both our sons. When my youngest son graduates, my daughter will be the custodian while we attend the graduation. We also need approximately $3500 for living expense until I get my first check from work. I have secured employment in Alaska and my son will also look for and secure employment. He has been in jail since Sept 20,2011 and we want to bail him out on Nov. 4, 2011. Total donation we are asking for $9900.00. s Can you find it in your heart to donate money to help us?

Quarters For Alaska

Posted by quartersForAlaska on 2011-07-15 11:58:17

Hello everyone! I'm asking for quarters for a good cause. I'm a legally blind individual who is hoping to go to Alaska to find work. I would like to perhaps work at a shop of some sort or another, but need help to get there and some assistance in setting everything up. Any quarters you send would be greatly appreciated.
Why Alaska?
It's always been my dream to work in Alaska ever since I read Julie of the Wolves in 7th Grade.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and I hope to personally thank everyone with a hand-made key-chain with the braille saying of your choice. So if you know of any sort of work, or a shop that would allow a phone interview, or to add quarters, please use the paypal button below!

Will you donate $1.00 to help my family and our bills? Please?!

Posted by katiecramer255 on 2011-02-15 19:58:28

My name is Katie. I am a 16 year old junior in high school. I live with my mother, father, 21 year old brother, 12 year old brother, 7 dogs and 5 cats. My father was recently laid off of work, my mother works 12 hours a day, and still does not have enough money to pay the bills. We have had to borrow money from family members, including my 76 year old grandmother, and even my cousin whom lives in ALASKA! All I am asking is that you donate $1.00, please. My mother and father have to pay, not just regular everyday bills, but they have to pay my brothers college tuition, and they had to pay $800.00 to have city water put in (we have well water) even though no one in our town had wanted it. Please, I am just asking you to help. I don't want to sound pathetic (though I know I do) but my parents have to put two more kids though college. Please, just $1.00. It means so much more than you could imagine. Thank you.

I just want to assure you this is not a scam request.

Posted by alaskagirl on 2010-11-23 16:58:58

I just posted a request for assistance with travel to my seasonal job up in Alaska, and I want to assure anyone who is able to help me that I am not a scammer. I am a very hard working woman who is trying to not fall deeper into the awful mess of our economy....I do HAVE a job, just no way to get there. I hope everyone who reads this request has the 'best they can' Thanksgiving holiday.

Please help me get back to my job.

I am a 48-yr old seasonal Alaska seafood processor who returned to NM after the salmon season ended in July of this year. I thought I would be able to find work here in NM (as I have done in the past), but no one is hiring... I have exhausted my unemployment benefits, and my job in Alaska starts the beginning of January and the company pays my way from Seattle, but I have no way to get to there for the fly-out date. My family is unable to help me with a bus/train/plane ticket; any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I would like to contribute to this site once I have completed the fishery season so I can help others who find themselves in this type of situation.

I need help moving for a Great job opportunity.

Help me please. I have a great job opportunity as an Aircraft Mechanic in Craig, Alaska. It's a great place with decent pay and they even provide use of a house. However, I have recently relied heavily on payday loans, and am barely getting by where I am. In order to move, I need to pay off these loans so I can pay for the move from North Carolina to Alaska (not cheap). Please help.

It has been a really long journey

I am despereate and about ready to file for bankruptcy if I can't get any help. Before I beg let me explain my story. I am 27 years old and about 5 years ago my life was going great, just as planned, I was in college and on my way to sonography school when my daddy had massive heart failure and passed away. Due to my father's death my mother had decided to move to Alaska and leave me alone in Texas. I have no family to lean on and my friends are all almost as bad off as I am. Well things where going alright for a few years and I had been working at Home Depot going on my 5th year there and my car had decided to just die on me then very shortly after I had bought a new car I was wrongfully laid off and on unemployment and foodstamps for a month. I wanted to work so I got my butt out there and found a job very quickly. Well of course this just all started a series of events for me. I had a severe asthma attack and almost died but I didn't have insurance so it put me 30,000 into medical debt. I haven't been in school in years because I have been working so much to try to pay off all of my bills and debts and I feel like I am going nowhere. I want more than anything in the world to graduate college and make something out of my life! I am so misserable I just want to give up sometimes but thankfully my own mind keeps motivating me. I guess aside from money I also need moral support. So if you would really like to help me get back on my feet I would be so extremely appreciative. I want to go back to school so very bad but I first need to pay off all of these debts. Why can't life really be like in the movies?
