Donations for a Dream

Posted by Bar_hopeful on 2012-04-22 02:58:38

How many times in life have you thrown away $1.00 and never thought twice? Today we ask you to do just that. We are hoping to open a bar. Economy being what it is we do not have the funding for it at the present time. The bar we are looking into requires a $50,000 down payment. We have raised a total of $17,352 so far, but still have a ways to go. The bar, once we get it open, is going to be a comfortable and exciting establishment. We plan to offer many different forms of entertainment including: Karaoke, Bands, card/pool/dart tournaments, live contests and pageants, competitions of many kinds and even the occasional mud/jello wrestling. As in other words a bar that is fun and entertaining for all. Our community needs something like this desperately. This is our dream and has been for many years, just as you have had dreams too. We are so close to achieving our goal. We just need an additional helping hand. We ask that you give a donation to our cause, even if it is simply $1.00. Each individual dollar gets us closer to achieving this dream. So today we ask that you throw away $1.00… In our direction.

Please Help Me Achieve My Dream

Posted by buddyzmama on 2012-03-02 20:58:12

I have the opportunity to buy a beautiful small house that is perfect for me and my dog, so that we would no longer be a burden to my mother. I am just $5,000 short of being able to purchase the house, just $5,000 short of achieving my dream of home ownership. Please help in any way, even just a dollar or two would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you so much and many blessings upon you!

Saving for Uni

Posted by LawStudent on 2012-01-26 03:58:55

I have a confirmed place to study Law at university next year, and will be the first to go in my family. I am on target for achieving the grades needed to go however there are the fees, living costs and the cost of becoming a lawyer afterwards to save for. I do have a part-time job, but I am on minimum wage and do not have many hours at the moment as things are quiet. Last week my hours only just covered my rent leaving £3.66 for the week. I will also have to leave this job when I go to university and worry I will find it difficult to find another in my university city. I do not have a local university so this is not an option for me.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated.

Getting back into work after serious illness

Posted by CarySerendipity on 2012-01-24 07:58:27

My name is Kacey and 2011 proved to be a bad year for me. I am a Freelance Media Consultant and was quite happy with what I was doing and achieved. Unfortunately due to severe stress (brought on by serious family situations and illness) I suffered a stroke the beginning of that year. I consider myself lucky because paralysis was only temporary and I'm back up and about walking around. I was only 44 years old when this happened and now registered with the hospital for the rest of my life. They even carried out a brain scan to make sure I didn't have a brain tumour. I was given the all clear with that. On top of that I also suffered a bout of colitis soon after. I've lived with the disease for ten years and manage it extremely well, I live with it and lead as happy and healthy life as I can. BUT it was the stroke that turned my life upside down and it has taken a while to get my head around it. I had no support from family but I thank goodness for close friends who have helped me through this health issue.

I now want to get back to my freelance work and during 2011 I continued helping out with a local community newspaper writing articles and taking photographs when I could. It was then I discovered that my hand writing had been affected by the stroke, but I'm getting there and my hand writing is getting better! I also found the quality of my photographs were also affected and not as good as before I had the stroke, they are not as clear and concise as they could be with a little digital camera I have. It has no anti shake. And yet my earlier photos are now attracting interest and people are now asking if I can be booked for taking photos for them. I'd love to do it and I'm just pleased that the community newspaper that I volunteer for have been supportive throughout. HOWEVER if I am going to add to my work experience and concentrate on my photography and writing I need to invest in some new photography equipment and a laptop to move onto new career challenges.

Effectively, after a year out I am starting out from the beginning again with being a Media Consultant and asking for help to achieve this. I have never asked for help before with my work, so hope that whoever is out there reading this can help towards achieving the camera equipment and laptop I need to progress into my photography sphere. I also plan to study at college a part-time photography course from September 2012. It'll last 3 years but it will be worth it and a qualification at the end of it. Just because I had a stroke does not mean the end. It just means adapting and getting the best out of life that I can. Anything is possible so don't write me off just yet!

Thank you for reading this true life whoever you may be.

Please help Florida's kids!

We are taking donations so all children regardless of income are able to play in a sports league especially those who cannot afford to do so. We began this charity when our own 3 kids each wanted to play a different sport and we just couldn't afford it. The disappointment they experienced when i told them that was heartbreaking...but in this economy not too abnormal! We want every child out there the chance to be part of a sports family! Please help and donate anything at all even if it's one dollar!=) Thank you for your help in achieving this!

To Whom It May Concern:

I will be walking on behalf of the AIDS Run & Walk Chicago on Saturday, October 1, 2011. I am choosing to walk to raise money to help people impacted by this disease. There have been more than 450,000 Americans die from this disease and over a million more are living with HIV.

South Side Help Center (SSHC) has for over the past twenty years been a strong proponent and advocate for HIV/AIDS prevention and education, particularly in the Black community. Therefore, I am personally requesting your help through donations and/or participation in AIDS Run & Walk Chicago 2011.

Through the AIDS Walk, your contribution will help to continue our deep commitment to serve the greater south side of Chicago with programs and services that are needed to increase the chances for a better quality of life for our disadvantaged youth, adults and families and HIV/AIDS clients.

Thanking you in advance for your kind support that helps to make the meaningful difference that enables SSHC to work towards achieving its goals.
Sincerely,

Help to return to school

Posted by dreamer on 2011-07-15 12:58:08

I am a 31 year old, single mother of 3 children. I work full time and provide for them the best I can but despite my efforts, we still struggle just to get by. I am looking to return to University and obtain a degree so I can have a career and won't have to work dead-end jobs that lead no where. I want to better my life and become financially stable and be able to provide for my children and not worry about where our next meal is coming from or if we will be able to pay the rent this month. I am capable of so much more than I am currently achieving and have so much to offer a potential employer, I just need the education to back the skills I already possess. I know it is alot to ask, but figured I have nothing to lose and I at least have to try.

Thanks for reading.

Single mum to be

Posted by Kayleighboo on 2011-05-19 02:58:38

My name is kayleigh and I'm 21 years old. I'm currently pregnant with my first child that is due in novemer. The pregnancy wasnt planned but I was in a relationship and I don't agree with abortion. When I discovered I was pregnant my boyfriend said he didn't want anything to do with his child so and that I should have an abortion or have the child adopted and id ruined his life. I work full time at the minute for a insurance company but due to the stress at the minute I haven't been hitting my targets so yesterday they issued me with a written warning for not achieving my targets. This now means that I will not be entitled to the group bonus which is approx £450 which I ha depended on for buying the essentials for my baby like the cot and the pushchair. I'm finding it a real struggle at the minute because my basic wage goes on paying off bills and credit cards before I go on maternity as my money drops to half when I start maternity leave. I'm not asking for much but any help would be amazing as babies are not cheap and I just want mine to have the best start in life
Hello, I'm Alex, I'm 24 years old and have joined this website in the hope of finding at least a partial solution to my current issues.

I am currently unemployed and am looking for a job, but I'm having great difficulty in finding one. In the meantime, I have credit card bills to pay, which I know, when cleared, I will use much more carefully in the future. But whatever little money I do receive for now is nowhere near enough to cover my bills.

Because I have limited qualifications, I'm struggling more to find work, so I intend to go to college next year to study on a one year Access to HE course. Completing this would enable me to study for my degree at university. But until I resolve my basic financial crisis, this is a plan that I will have to postpone, but at the same time, while I'm not studying, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to find a job. What can I do?

The total debt is around £3000, which I'm not receiving any assistance with from the people I know. This is giving me nothing but stress and headaches and is hindering me from achieving what I want.

If anyone can spare me something, no matter how small, it will be massively appreciated! Even if I only receive a fraction of what I need, it will have been a massive help!
My name is Ephraim Ntlamo (18) I’m a Zimbabwean national living in Cape- Town. I came to South Africa on my own in 2008 as a political refugee; I didn’t know anybody here. This situation lead me to living on the streets of Cape Town for months, I was very discouraged by my situation of living under the bridge, but never lost the hope that one day I will be in school again.
In fact being far away from home, missing the family together with being homeless at the same time can be very stressful that the temptation of using substances to stay calm can be very high, however because I had a dream to be a educated man one day, I resisted all this and kept on believing in myself that one day I shall overcome all of these obstacles and enroll into school again. The best platform to reconstruct my life towards achieving my childhood dream of becoming an electrical engineer, these experiences have however made me have interest in human rights law, so I will be studying that after high school.

Thanks to well wisher sponsors today I have a place to call home and I’m attending school. Those are big steps towards achieving my goals in life. I recently applied to attend grade 11at Premiere collage and got accepted; Premiere collage is rated among the best private collages schools in Western Cape. The academic pass rate isn’t bad.

The fee’s are [R 15,000] plus the once off registration fee of R1500 I do not have the money however I’m looking for small sponsorships towards my fees

There are various reasons why I want to be student at this school. Firstly, like I mentioned before it’s a great school to get the best education that prepares someone for the world outside there.

In 2009 formed a soccer team of unaccompanied refugee children from all over Africa living here in Cape Town; the purpose of the formation of this team is for educational purposes. The idea is for us refugee children not to isolate ourselves from South Africans; instead we want to be part of the solution to issues like xenophobia, racism, and any sort of discrimination. See www.refugee6foundation.org. Most importantly this refugee team serves to persuade other refugee children to consider education as the only alternative way to success. We also discuss about issues like HIV/AIDS. At this stage the idea had worked very well: Few boys have abandoned their labour jobs in vine yards farms and they are looking forward to starting attending school this year as well.

For me attending Premier Collage I believe will encourage them to believe that nothing is impossible in life and this step will also enable me to persuade as many other refugee children as I can to quit their labour jobs and go back to school. This will help them to be confident and have the realization that everything is possible in life.

Lastly I’m in the middle of writing my book to be about my life experiences, I therefore think that attending this school because of its great diverse culture will help me write a successful book that might change lives of many youth on the way they view the world. See www.childmigrant.wordpress.com
Thank you for considering helping me put together the R 15000 together!

Help realizing a dream!

Posted by Nygmen81 on 2010-12-05 08:58:58

Hello, my name is Jay. I'm 29 years of age and I am in a unfortunate situation because of a life-long struggle with physical disabilities. I was born with cerebral palsy, scoliosis, epilepsy, and asthma. However, the combination of these ailments have not caused me to stop achieving my goal of finishing college. The financial strains have been a lot though in recent years because after graduating high school with a normal diploma, my disability benefits were taken away. I had to fight 2 years to restore them, which caused my grades at the college I was attending to drop below financial aid standards, which caused me to leave. This caused me to have debt, which totals $16,000. This is my old tuition bill plus my medical bills from when my disability benefits were cut. By the time I got my benefits restored, the day-to-day expenses became too great, so I couldn't tackle this debt. Even with this accomplished however, unfortunately my dream of receiving my college degree can't be completed because the tuition at the school is $35,000 per year and I simply can't afford it. All I ask is for anything you would be willing to give in order to help my dream come true. Thank You.

Pursuit of Education

Posted by JSmith on 2010-06-30 16:58:58

I was three years old when I began my educational career. My mother had petitioned for my acceptance into kindergarten because my birthday fell a week after the cut off date. The school accepted me though they were adamant because I was believed to be too young for kindergarten. I was sent home after my first week of school. "Mrs. Wilson, Jewel will not be able to continue kindergarten unless she is properly potty trained." My mother called me into her room. "Jewel, your teacher said you can't go back to school until you go to the potty." I never missed a day of class unless it was out of my control after that conversation.

My name is Jewel Smith and I am nineteen years old. I became one of five children after my mother's marriage. Now, I am the oldest of three in our household and my mother is a single parent. When asked, "What is your favorite activity?” most children would respond with a sport, videogames, or TV show. My passion is learning. I enjoy all subjects from sciences to literary works.

My mother strives to give only the best of education for my siblings and me. She made it very clear that we had to work as a team in achieving this goal. I attended a private catholic all girl high school through scholarship and financial assistance. I knew my mother couldn't afford tuition for my siblings and me. During my high school career, I excelled in AP/honors courses, maintained a high GPA, and participated in numerous organizations. Many people in my neighborhood believed I wouldn't "survive" in my high school setting because for the first time I did not attend a school with students who were of my racial or economic class. However, I was able to push through adversity even when it threatened to take my mother's life away during my junior year of high school. My mother's lung collapsed and some doctors stated she almost didn't make it. During my high school career, I learned people could cultivate their differences and come together as one entity regardless of race, class, or gender. I was able to maintain over a 3.5 GPA during my senior year and built a strong support system with faculty, friends, mentors, and family members.

I currently attend DePauw University in Greencastle, IN as an incoming junior. I have a declared major in English Writing with a possible second major in Spanish. I maintain a "B" average. I was granted a large package with my school that covers my tuition and some room and board. Unfortunately, the left over balance is still too much for my mother and I to afford. I was informed that I must pay the left over balance of $6,700 as well as my incoming fall balance of $4,000 in order to continue my education at this institution.

I believe that everyone has a special gift that helps the world become a better place. At five years old I knew I wanted to serve others as much as I can. My ultimate goal is to give back to my home community as well as those who are less fortunate in the world through education. It is through this letter that I ask for your help. I want to continue my educational career through undergraduate and graduate studies. I ask that you partner with me so that I am able to make my dream a part of reality. Thank you in advance.

My mother's lung collapsed due to complications of her sarcoidosis and some doctors stated she almost didn't make it.
