I want to treat my mom to a great vacation (Sonoma vineyards)

Posted by angiemthomas on 2012-04-22 20:58:58

I am not asking for much and this is not an emergency.
My mom is a poor single lady with health problems living in the midwest. She never gets to do anything or go anywhere. She is a sweetie and goes to church. She recently lost a bunch of weight with diet, exercise, and hard work and was able to go off all her diabetes and blood pressure meds!

This coming August 2012, I would like to fly her out here near me (San Francisco) and give her a week of vacation where she does not have to spend a dime, as she has no money. She lives on a farm with nothing around. She has never been to the San Francisco or Sonoma area.

As for me, I am a single young lady here in SF and I work in I.T. for a living but only have enough to pay my rent (i live alone and support myself) and electricity and food. Nothing more.

I would like to bring my mom to the Napa/Sonoma vineyards on a wine tour. Maybe the wine train tour? Also to Fishermans' Wharf and do all the touristy things. Also a brunch cruise. The Aquarium. California Academy of Sciences. Ripley's Wax Museum. Fine Dining, a concert (maybe Yanni). And I dont know what else.

Plus, her airfare ($500) to get here and back.

This is a dream that I want to fulfill with my mom. You never know how long you are going to have your mom around, and I want to make this vacation spectacular for her! Nothing I want to do with my mom is all that expensive. But I want it to be MEANINGFUL, heartfelt, and a trip she wont forget.

(I originally wanted to give her a trip to Hawaii, but there is no way I can afford that.)

This is no emergency. I do not want to compete with the people out there needing heart surgery. This is just a vacation with my mom.
But you never know unless you have the courage to ask, right?
Any amount will help. I'm going to put every penny into a Chase Savings account and save until August when Mom gets here for a week of vacation; August is also my birthday. (if we can afford it).

If you contribute to this, I will send you all kinds of photos from mine and my momma's vacation in August!!

Disabled musician needs help with funding for college

Posted by joebassman on 2012-01-29 16:58:46

I am a disabled person who has suffered from ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome since age 9. I missed almost all of my secondary education because of my disability.
I studied a 2 year foundation degree and 1 year degree in music at the Colchester Institute. When I went on to apply for a music teaching PGCE at Cambridge, Middlesex, Ipswich and Open Universities I was interviewed but not selected for any of the courses. The feedback on each occasion was that I lacked sufficient subject knowledge to be accepted on the teachers training course. Also, when I undertook classroom observation experience at several secondary schools, it became clear to me that there were shortfalls in my subject knowledge.
As a disabled person I am at a disadvantage when competing with able bodied people for employment. The shortfall in my subject knowledge is a further disadvantage that can be rectified. I have been offered a place at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford Surrey to commence September 2012. My Parents are unable to assist me financially as my father and 2 brothers are disabled and unable to work. My mother has been ill and unable to work for the past year as she has a lung disease and it is not certain if she will be able to return to work.
Previously I auditioned and was offered a place at the world renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston USA. I was unable to obtain funding to attend the course and was informed by the Department of Education that this was because there are sufficient colleges and universities that offer music education in the UK.
Any donations or sponsorship to help me with the fees would be much appreciated.

Gifted/talented Trip to Space Academy,

Posted by kazbee70 on 2012-01-27 06:58:04

Hi,

Never done this before, so not sure where to start. Never usually aske for anything. I am a single (working) mum with three boys. My eldest has a chance to go to Space academy in Alabalma for gifted/talented children at his school. It is a huge honour to be chosen but is very expensive. I know this isn't life or death but I am very proud of him. And want him to have the opportunities this brings, and prove that n single families can do as well as others. I have saved and fundraised, three quarters of the money but am struggling with the last £500. Once I have paid the mortgage, there isnt alot left and I receive no maintenance or benefits. Any help, even 10p or a £1 would make the world of difference. Even if you don't donate, thank you for taking the time to read this.

My son just got accepted into FUMA

Posted by frsno1 on 2011-12-23 13:58:37

This story is about my 13 year old son, Alejandro Jr. I will not be writing about anything that is sad or depressing, but about something that is wonderful and cause to celebrate. I am writing to share that my son has been accepted into the Fork Union Military Academy, located outside of Richmond, Virginia.

Me and my family are excited about this huge opportunity for my son. The road to get there was not easy however, but God answered our prayers. Alejandro Jr. has always been a very active child with an even more active imagination. As a baby, me and my wife would hear him play all night and could never sit still. During his elementary school days, his teachers would always remark how intelligent he was, but could just never sit still or not be a distraction to his class. What could I say, that is the way he was born.

But he went through elementary school on the honor roll each and every year he was there all the way through 6th grade. He was ready to go into middle school. When he entered into the 7th grade, things changed. There was a lot of bad influence and it started to affect my son because he has always been so innocent. His grades suffered, but he still scored in the top 97% of students in the end of the year state testing.

8th grade fared no better. He wasn’t the same anymore. He didn’t go to a good middle school. Lots of gangs and rumor has it drug dealing was going on there as well. His teachers didn’t care about him because he wasn’t doing the work, but he would still score 100 % on his quizzes and tests. His school wasn’t any help either. My son wasn’t being challenged, he knew the material, but he was not going to thrive in that environment, it seems he was getting harassed by his teachers and staff.

We wanted to remove him from that school as we had been fed up with the school district for a while now. We looked to see if there was an environment where he would thrive. After much research, we heard about the Fork Union Military Academy, which is an all boys military school. We took a look and my son loved it. This fits right in with his goal of joining the United States Marine Corps after high school.

We have been blessed that financial aid has covered roughly half of the tuition, but we are still in need of the other half, which is $10,000, which is due in 5 months. I am asking for any generous donation(s) that one may feel the need to contribute too. If you find it in your heart to do so, me and my family could not thank you enough and if you decide not to do so, thank you for your patience in reading about my son’s story. I wish a Happy Christmas to all.

Marine Veteran, husband, father of two wants to be a Police man

Posted by huth1102 on 2011-09-17 00:58:02

I am so embarassed to even be doing this,. I am a 32 yeard old married father of two. My wife and I were married at 19 and have been together for almost twelve years. I was unexpectidly discharged (Honorably) afyter suffering a back injury which led to my Marine Corps career ending.I have spent 7 years trying tomake it out in the civillian world and have failed time after time. My wife and I are broke! I need find 4500 dollars to attend The police academy. Once paid my gi bill reemburse me but I can't put that up front. Things are so bad we're gonna loose our home. I would be mopre than happy to pay back the 4500 once I get the GI bill reembursment. All I want to do is serve my fellow man the only way Iknow how. I have a clean record, I am physically able to makeit through, and I am intelligent enough to pass all the tests. please help me if you can my daughter (10) and son (4) would have have a chance to have a better life... we haven't even gas to turn the gas on now to take heated showers. Please I am desperate. Thank you. my email is marineinneed@gmail.com
Firstly, I believe it is important to be honest to anyone who would like to help me. I do not pretend to be innocent or the victim of the world. The situations I have gotten myself into as of late, are all entirely my doing. I take full responsibility for everything. Unfortunately, I am beyond desperate financially and I am unable to help myself which due to this fact, I have come to my last resort online.

Growing up where I have, the only thing to do is to go out every night and drink until the sun comes up or get married and have children by the time you're 18. I chose the party/social life and it has finally hit me that I am failing myself and the potential I know I have to be something other than a washed up woman sitting at a bar doing the same thing I did when I was 21, only alone and probably creepy to the other 21 year olds. I have my ex-boyfriend to thank for this realization, I think. Due to my wake-up call, I have gone through the steps of growing up. I stopped hanging out with the people who didn't want to change and better themselves and I have filled out my FAFSA so I can get financial aid to go to the cosmotology school that I have always wanted to attend, Paul Mitchell Academy. Everything seemed to head in the right direction, until I decided I would go out one night for just a bit after not going out for almost a month. That 'bit,' cost me my first DUI. Attempting to still stay positive, I got new job outside of a bar and away from the area of my problems. The positive shortly turned to negative with the realization I would have to pay $1,000 for a 6wk class as well as pay off a $2,000 ticket, not including what would be my SR-22 insurance on top of living expenses and bills. Still, I stayed slightly positive, until now. My car's motor has blown and now, I am without a car and relying on the few people I do know for rides only to work. It makes me feel pathetic to have to ask others for help. I feel so helpless and worthless that I have gotten myself in such situations as these and it is entirely my fault due to my irresponsible actions. I do not ask my friends to take me to the grocery store or help me to run the errands I need because I do not like to put people out. So, I order take out and eat at the restaurant I work at almost everyday, it's getting rather old and I don't feel healthy. I can't ask either of parents for help as they are not able to give it, even though they would if they could. My mother lives off of disability and her car is breaking down as well. My father works, but I'm not really sure how he makes it on the little money he makes. I am in a bind, one that seems to get tighter and thicker by the day. My positive outlook and my hopes for a better life is slowly but surely diminishing by the day. I feel so awful for asking for help from strangers, but if weren't so absolutely desperate, I wouldn't. I want to make something of myself I want a better life, and it's time to move on, but I need a few helping hands to do so. If anyone out there is willing or able to help, I am asking so very humbly for it. I appreciate you listening to my story and for any of those who care to help someone in need. I want to thank all of you beautiful people who do selflessly help someone you don't know get back up on my feet and hopefully back on track.

Needing help paying for Police Academy tuition and fees

I live in Florida and will be one of few women attending the Police Academy this upcoming semester at Gulf Coast State College. http://www.gulfcoast.edu/public_safety/degree_programs/cst-aas.htm
To be classified as a "full-time" student, 12 credit hours per semester are required. I am registered for 21 credit hours for fall semester 2011/12 school year.
I am a full-time Crime Scene Tech student (15 crdt/hr) and the Police Academy will be adding an additional 6 credit hours per semester.
The Academy begins Aug. 17 and Crime Scene Aug 22, 2011. I will be graduating with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Crime Scene Technology in May 2012 and the Police Academy in June 2012.
Any gifts/donations will be a huge relief!
If you would like a receipt for your gift/donation to me, I would be happy to supply one as gift/donations are tax deductible!

Thank you,

A SOCCER PLAYER NEEDS HELP OF CLUB TO PLAY

Posted by nimshawnla on 2011-05-21 05:58:07

Attention,

I am Angel Alaba Abiola Animashaun by name, i am a complete athlete, i run several metres , i run marathon but my most active and which am very good at is soccer. I have all the skills , the fitness, the stamina it takes and the mental reasoning of playing soccer.Other athletic activities i do have vastly helped me in the energy, the strenght of playing soccer for hours everyday. I do other athletic games once in a while but i play soccer everyday, i train twice everyday, i train with my club in the morning and in the afternoon but i and other players do not get paid but i play it passionately without holding back for anyday. I enjoy playing soccer and play it with the whole of my strenght inspite the environment is holding me down to go to the next level.I played throughout my schooling levels to the High school level. I have been playing with couple of youth club inspite of young age right from high school.

Soccer is my priority in life, i meditiate on it everyday even in my sleep, all i think and want to do for the rest of my life is playing soccer.I have been playing soccer right from my tender age from which i have played in couple of academies like Pepsi football academy and more like it.Soccer is politicalised in Nigeria and in Africa as a whole. One has to know one or two person(s) who are politically connected before been allowed to enter any open camp and to play in clubs even without tryout and this extends to the national team selection.Football selection in Nigeria is attached to Godfatherism and whoever do not have any Godfather that is politically connected will not be given any attention.I will like to play soccer in any peace loving nation.

I would want you to please do kindly link me up for any tryout participation to come prove myself and i am very sure of myself if am allowed a chance in any tryout with %100 transparency of the coaches unlike Nigeria. I beg you to please kindly help me by linking me up for any trial available and i am very ready to heed to whatever it will cost.Kindly get back to me for any trial chance possibilities.I will be waiting to read back from you as soon as possible .

Regards,
Angel

Hello! My name is Kayla, Im 18 years old and will soon be attending New York Film Academy July 6th. I will be attending for the year acting program. Which for the whole year will cost $30,000. I recently have applied for FASFA earning the full amount of $11,500. I also auditioned for the school for their talent based grant. They told me less then 20% of students actually receive anything. So my probability was low, unless the school really believed I have a gift. Which they did! However that will only award me 5,000. I have been trying with so many scholarships, and before I start applying for loans, I want to get as much help as possible. I never grew up with a father so dad is out of the question and my mom supports me and my two sisters making 10/hr. So thats out as well. I would ideally like to raise 15,000-20,000. I know that is alot to ask for and I will gladly accept any money that is given to me and be more then appreciative! Thank you so much and have a great day!

Please help me go to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts!

Posted by Levans2391 on 2011-05-07 08:58:46

Hi my name is Laura and I live in Yorkshire, England. Acting has always been a huge passion of mine ever since I was very young. After auditioning for various drama schools in London for the past three years, I have just been lucky enough to gain a place on the foundation course at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. This is undoubtedly one of the best drama schools in the world and many very successful actors have trained at RADA. Unfortunately the fee for this course is £10,071; an amount of money which I just do not have! If any one could help with this in any way I would be extremely grateful, as it would help me on my way to realising my dream. Thank you, Laura.

Please Help Me Send My Daughter to the Missouri Fine Arts Academy

Posted by craiganc on 2011-03-13 11:58:28

My 16 year old daughter was accepted to the summer program at the Missouri Fine Arts Academy. This is a wonderful opportunity for her and it will get her a jump start on college as she will receive 3 credit hours of Fine Arts that she can transfer to the school of her choice. We just need to raise $1500 to do this and I am looking for some help to make this possible for her. Please review her plea and I hope that you can find it in your heart to help her take part in this wonderful opportunity. There is a link to donate at the bottom of the letter. -------------------

A Summer Adventure at the Missouri Fine Arts Academy

A few months ago, I got an email from my teacher. It was about a music program provided by Missouri State University. It was for actors, writers, musicians, visual artists, and singers. I love music and acting, so the singers, the instrumentalists, and the actors programs intrigued me. For a while, I couldn't decide on which I wanted to do. I love to sing, I love to play the cello, and I love to act. Everyone said different things. I finally decided on singing since it is what I feel most passionate about.
Music truly is my life and I hope to make it my career along with acting. These arts fill up all parts of my life (I even finally gave in and started to take private lessons). Although, everytime I would get an oppurtunity to do what I wanted, I never had the money or was passed over to a favorite. Usually, it was because I had no money. Many acting schools have called me back after answering to an open call, but they always wanted $5000-10000 within a week of calling. I really thought I wouldn't be able to do what I wanted because of money.
Although, I have found the Missouri Fine Arts Academy. It seems wonderful. There are concerts, classes, and so many other things offered there. It is a huge chance like so many others. I don't want to pass it up. It is not just a chance to get a great education from it, but it also gives me a jumpstart on my college credits. Three whole credit hours from four weeks of study. This could be what I need to become successful!
I need money though. Like everything that is good, there is always a catch. I need 1500 dollars to pay for this school. I need help from other people. People that are my friends, my family, and anyone who has a dream even somewhat similar to mine. Even a dollar, heck even $0.50, would help me reach this goal. I just need to raise all the money I can. Thank you. Even if the only thing you can give is support, it helps.
